Signs of Laylatul Qadr mentioned in the Quran and Hadith?

01:57
Answer By Dr Zakir Naik,There are signs mentioned in the authentic Hadith of Lailatul Qadr. But Alhumdulillah all the signs that are mentioned they are seen after Lailatul Qadr has passed. So it's the wisdom of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala), he does not wants us to know exact, because if we have known then we would have seen the sign and then prayed and done worship and the other nights we would have just .. you know been a bit relaxed and not worship Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala). There's a Hadith mentioned in Sahih Muslim, (Vol No. 1, Book of Salaah, Hadith No. 1675) that "The following of Lailatul Qadr, the next day the Sun will be without rays, and it will appear like a dish until it rises high." It's further mentioned in Sahih Muslim, Vol No. 2, in the Book of Fasting, Hadith No. 2633, that"The day following Lailatul Qadr, the sun will not have rays." It's further mentioned in Sahih Muslim, Vol No. 2, in the Book of Fasting, Hadith No. 2635, that the Prophet said that, "On the night of Lailatul Qadr, the moon will appear like a plate towards the fag end of the month."And it's mentioned in the Sahih Hadith of Tabarani and Ibn Khuzaimah, that "The night of Lailatul Qadr will not be too hot, neither will it be too cold and it will be a generous night, night of happiness and the Sun, the next day after Lailatul Qadr will appear weak and reddish" So these are the signs Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) has mentioned in the Sahih Hadith, but all of them they are after the Lailatul Qadr comes so that we yet seek for Lailatul Qadr.

Can we touch the qur'an without wadhu?

03:09
Many people think that if you are in wudu you became a 'Mutahhareen'Now this purity what the Qur'an refers if you know the background and the Nuzool e Qur'an when was this verse revealed we come to know, If you read the tafseer various tafasir of ibn kathir and other tafaasir We come to know that there was an allegation that these verses which the prophet was receiving that were been revealed to him nauzbillah... it was a revelation from the devil, So in reply to this allegation Allah revealed another verse that none shall touch the Qur'an except those who are pure So this purity 'Mutahhareen' doesn't refer to only bodily purity, it refers to pure in mind in body, in thinking absolutely 100% masoom which no human being can be 100%. It is referring to the angels, that no one can touch the Qur'an except the angels that means the devil cannot interfere in between and the Qur'an referred here it isn't referring to the mushaf, this is the mushaf the copy of the Qur'an, talking about the Qur'an in Lauh-e-Mehfuz, as Allah says about the tablet well preserved, so that Qur'an which is in the heaven, tablet well preserved. No one can come close to it; no one can touch it except the Angels. 'Mutahhareen' mentioned h doesn't refer to only bodily purity, tahara means only wudu, it doesn't refer to that. It refers to absolute purity. And it doesn't refer to this Qur'an refers to the tablet well preserved in the heaven. If it refers to this Qur'an, and it referred to normal wudu any non Muslim can go in the market and purchase the Qur'an for 150 rupees, easily, and can touch it. Then the Qur'an will be proved wrong. No one can touch it, I can touch he will touch it. so it is no where referring to wudu and touching this Qur'an, it is referring to the absolute purity and about Lauh-e-Mehfuz, but generally if some one is in wudu and touches the Qur'an, it is preferable, it is mustahab, It's not a fard though scholars differ. There is no verse in the Qur'an or a Hadith which says that wudu is compulsory for touching the Qur'an, wudu is compulsory for offering salaah. And it was the system of the Prophet he preferred being in wudu always, so it's not a fard, it's not a requirement you should be in wudu but it is preferable. There is no verse in the Qur'an or the hadith which says it is fard

Does Hugging and Kissing your wife is Allowed while Fasting?

03:30
Answer By Dr Zakir Naik,While fasting if a husband kisses the wife or hugs the wife or shows his love for the wife by kissing on the cheek or the lip or the hand or hugs or embraces all these things are permissible as long as it does not encourage him to go into an act which is Haraam for fasting. And this is very well stated in the Hadith of Muhammad (saw), It's mentioned in Sahih Bukhari, Vol. No. 3, in the Book of Fasting, Hadith No. 1927, that, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) she says that "The Prophet used to kiss and embrace his wives while fasting. But he was the best amongst you to control himself." That means the Prophet had the power to control. Similarly it's mentioned in Sunan Abu Dawud, Vol. No. 2 (Book of Fasting), Hadith No. 2379, that, "Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) once while he's fasting kisses his wife, immediately he feels sorry and he goes to the Prophet and he says that, "Oh Prophet I've sinned. I've sinned against you and Allah" So Prophet says "What have you done?", he says, "that while fasting I've kissed my wife." So the Prophet asks him, "that when you gargle or rinse your mouth while doing wudhu, does your fast break?" So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) he said, "No". "So why bother?." Indicating to him that you can kiss and embrace your wife. Furthermore there's a Hadith which is mentioned in Musnad Ahmad, Vol. No. 2, Hadith No. 6739, one of the Sahaaba he narrates that "A young man comes to Prophet Muhammad (saw) and asks him that "Can I kiss my wife while I'm fasting?" The Prophet says, "No" Later on, an old man comes to the Prophet and asks him that, "Can I kiss my wife while fasting?" And the Prophet said "Yes". So the Sahaaba look among themselves that how come the answer is deferring? Then the Prophet replies that "This man can control himself" So the basic ruling is that if a person knows that he can control himself after kissing or hugging his wife and he's sure that it will not lead into an act which will nullify the fast, for example it will not lead into a sexual intercourse, or will not lead into ejaculation, as long as he can control himself... kissing and hugging is permitted if he cannot control himself and he fears that he will go into the act which will nullify the fast like intercourse or ejaculation then it is prohibited for him

If a women's on her menses, her period, how would she observe Laylat Al Qadr?

02:35
Answer By Dr Zakir Niak,As far as fasting is concerned if a lady is having her menstrual periods according to a Hadith which is mentioned in Sahih Al Bukhari Vol no. 3 in the Book of Fasting Hadith no. 1951 Hazrat Aisha, (may Allah be pleased with her), who is the wife of Prophet Muhammad (saws), she said when she was asked this question that do we have to make up for the fast or does the fast break while menstruating? So she said that "When we used to fast and when we used to have our menstruations during the month of Ramadhaan she used to say that during the month of Ramadhaan when we had our menstruation, the Prophet asked us to make up for the fast but did not ask us to make up for the Salaah." So based on the ruling of Muhammad (saws) which was narrated to us by his wife Hazrat Aisha, (may Allah be pleases with her), so making up for the prayer is not a requirement but making up for the fast is a requirement. So if a woman has a menstrual cycle or post natal bleeding, she cannot continue with the fast, the fast breaks. If she has in between in the day, she will have to break the fast or even if the menstruation starts just a few minutes before sunset, she'll have to break the fast, the fast is not valid. But if menstruation stops just before Fajr then she can keep the fast. But if the menstruation stops just a few minutes after Fajr she cannot keep the fast and she will have to make up the fast later on after Ramadhaan. The reason why the fasting breaks when a woman has her menstrual period or post natal bleeding is because of a lot of blood flows out and Allah (swt) does not over burden the woman. So it's a grace from Allah (swt), He does not want to make it difficult because when blood flows out and then after that if you say that you should not take in nourishment, you should not take food, it's an overburdening so because of that Allah (swt) has excused the women that she need not fast, but she has to make up later on.

Exact correct time to begin and end the I'tikaf?

05:42
Answer By Dr Zakir Naik,As far as beginning of Ietikaaf for the last ten days of Ramadhaan is concerned there is a difference of opinion between the scholars. One group of scholars... people like Al Awza'ee, people like At Thawari, or Imaam Al Layth (may Allah be pleased with them all), they says that Ietikaaf should begin after the Fajr Salaah, on the 21st night, based on the Hadith which is mentioned in Sahih Bukhari, Vol. No. 3, in the Book of Ietikaaf, Hadith No. 2034 as well as 2041, that Hadhrat Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) she said that, "The Prophet used to do Ietikaaf for the last ten days of Ramadhaan and I used to pitch the tent for him. And after Fajr Salaah he used to come at the place of Ietikaaf and enter the tent."

Under what conditions is fasting exempted for a sick person? by Dr Zakir Naik

02:09
Under what conditions is fasting exempted for a sick person? Dr Zakir Naik: The people who are ill, they are exempted. Allah says in the Quran in Surah Baqarah ch. no. 2 verse no. 185 that "If a person is ill and traveling he can make up his prescribed periods of day of fasting later on" but that does not mean if a person is suffering from a headache or a stomachache or a cough he should not fast. If a person can fast if he is sick, it becomes compulsory for him to fast. The only time he is exempted is if fasting becomes difficult due to his illness or if he fasts, his illness would be increased or his health would detoriate or its compulsory for him to take some medicine due to his illness then it becomes prohibited otherwise for small issues or for small reasons like cough, like cold, like headache, like stomachache fasting is compulsory. And the reason Allah (swt) has exempted those people who are ill so Allah (swt) does not want to put a burden, Allah says in the Quran in Surah Baqarah ch. no. 2 verse no. 195 that "Do not make your own hands the cause of your own destruction" If I am ill and if I know that fasting is going to cause loss for me, will detoriate my health it's like killing myself. So Allah says its prohibited. So if I know fasting will detoriate my health then it becomes prohibited. Similarly Allah says in the Quran, in Surah Nisa ch. no. 4 verse no. 29 that "Kill not yourselves for Allah (swt) is the most merciful" So causing a loss or a damage to your own health, to yourself is prohibited in Islam. So this exemption is mainly for these people for whom it is difficult or it will detoriate the health not for small ailments.

Why do people commit sins if the devils are chained in Ramadhaan? by Dr Zakir Naik

Dr Zakir Naik: And I do agree with you that this is a common question and I remember several years back when I was in school and when I heard this Hadith that the devils are chained in the month of Ramadhaan immediately the question that came to my mind and the question that comes to many Muslims' mind and many non-Muslims' is that if the devils are chained then how do people, how do human beings yet commit sins? Qiyaam-Ul-Layl or Taraweeh, and it's other Names by Dr Zakir Naik

03:56
Qiyaam-Ul-Layl or Taraweeh, and it's other Names by Dr Zakir Naik. Dr Zakir Naik: Alhumdulillah, Was Salaatu Was Salaam Aala Rasoolillah Wa Ala Aalihi Wa Ashaabihi Wa Ajma'een, Amma Baad. A'uzu billahi minash shaytan nir-rajeem, Bismillah hirrahman nirraheem. Rabbish rahli Şadri Wa Yassir Li 'Amri Wa Ahlul `Uqdatam Min Lisaani Yafqahu Qawli. As far as the word Qiyaam ul Layl is concerned it is broken up into 2 words Qiyaam. Qiyaam means to stand and Al Layl means the night. So literally it means standing in the night but in the Shariah, in the Islamic context it means that it is a voluntary prayer which is prayed in the Isha and before the break of dawn. And as we are aware that Isha starts after the redness of the sky after the sunset and you can pray this Qiyaam ul Layl just before the break of dawn, just before the time of Fajr.

The most sinful act in Ramadhaan

04:52
Dr. Zakir: The act which is the most sinful and most serious amongst all of them which invalidates the fast, it is sexual intercourse. That when you have sexual intercourse and when the two private parts meet then your fast is invalidated whether ejaculation takes place or not and you have to repent for that. You have to complete the fast for that day and you have to make it up later and you have to pay a penalty that's Kaffaara. According to the Sahih Hadith in which our beloved Prophet said, it's mentioned in Sahih Bukhari Vol. no. 3, in the book of Fasting, Hadith no. 1936 Where a man comes to the Prophet and he says that "I am ruined, O Prophet I am ruined" The Prophet said "What is the matter?" "The man says I had sex with my wife while I was fasting." So the Prophet says that "Can you free a slave?" So the man says "No, I cannot" Then the Prophet asked "Can you fast consecutively for 2 months?" Can you fast continuously for 60 days?" The man says, "No, I cannot" Then the Prophet says that "Can you feed 60 poor people?" And the man says "NO" and the Hadith continues. In short we come to know from this Hadith that if any person does a sexual intercourse, it is one of the major sins, it is the most serious and sinful amongst all the things that break the fast. The person who does this sin, he should immediately repent to Allah (swt) and ask for forgiveness. He should complete his fast for that day and make up for that fast later on after Ramadhaan and he has to pay penalty and the penalty we come to know from the Hadith is that he either frees a slave if he can, If he does not have the money to free the slave or he cannot find a slave to free then he should fast for 2 consecutive months, fast for 60 days. If he cannot do that also then he should at least feed 60 poor people and these are the 3 options that have been given for a person to pay as a penalty, as a Kaffaara but if a person can do the first thing he should not jump to the second or the third. The first is freeing a slave, if he cannot do that, if he doesn't have the money or cannot find a slave then you can go to the next option i.e. fasting consecutively for 60 days, if he cannot do that, if he is unable to do that continuously fasting for 60 days, if he fasts for a few days and then one day he doesn't fast, he should start again. He should fast consecutively for 60 days, if he doesn't have the capacity to do that then what he can do is he can feed 60 poor people and each poor person should be fed with approximately half Sa'a, each Sa'a is equal to 3 hands full of outstretched hand of wheat. So half Sa'a person or the food that is there of the land so 60 poor people you should feed. This is the Kaffaara, the penalty for a person who breaks a fast by having a sexual intercourse.

Fasting while on a journey

Dr. Zakir: if a person starts to travel midday or in the afternoon and if he is in the hometown till afternoon it is fardh for him to keep the fast atleast till that time. Only time a traveler is permitted to break the fast is when he leaves the hometown if he decides that he is going to leave in the afternoon and it's not possible that he does not fast in the morning he has to fast in the morning because there can be change of plan if he decides in the afternoon he may change his plan so then it will be a sin on him. So if a person who is traveling the only time he will break the fast is when he leaves the city limits Yusuf Chambers: I see... Dr. Zakir: Until he hasn't left he should not break, so if he leaves the city limits in the afternoon he is permitted to break, it is not that he should break but he feels there's not hardship he can continues fasting and complete his fast it's optional Yusuf Chambers: Okay excellent. Next question is from one of our viewers who is a pilot and he considered himself to be in a perpetual state of traveling every day he is traveling on the plane... long distances and umm.. he is asking, is he exempted therefore from all fasts? Dr. Zakir: If a persons profession is such that he is a pilot or if he is a sailor and he has to travel and if he leaves his hometown and goes on a way so but natural he is considered as a traveler he is exempted from fasting but he has to make up his fast before the next of Ramadhaan. So if he travels a lot then he'll have to fast in the holidays, whatever holidays he gets and when he's stationed in hometown. So if he does not want to fast he is exempted because he is considered as a traveler but he'll have to make up the fast as soon as possible before the next Ramadhaan unless he is traveling on a very long flight maybe from India to New York which is more than twelve hours but if the flight is a short flight, I don't think so there'll be problem.

In the case of person wishes to give Zakat to a non-dependant family member?

Answer By Dr Zakir Naik,As far as giving Zakaat to a family member who is not dependant it's permissible. There is a Hadith mentioned in Sahih Bukhari Vol. no. 2 in the Book of Zakaat Hadith no. 1462 "Once the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihe wa sallam), he was giving Khutba after the Eid whether it was Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul-Ada, he was giving a Khutba and he told to the people "give Alms, give charity, give zakaat". Then he went to the women and told them "give Alms, give charity" and then he comes back home and then a lady by the name of Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) she comes to the house of the Prophet and says that "may I come in?" he said "who are you?" So she says "I am Zainab." "Who Zainab?" Then "Zainab, the wife of Ibn Masood" (may Allah be pleased with him) Prophet said "yes, you can come in" so she says "because you told me to Zakaat I want to give my Zakaat and give the gold jewelry but my husband Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that no one is more deserving than your husband and your son. So the Prophet replies he is right. The most deserving of your Zakaat is your husband and your son. And giving to them will be the best people." So this proves that you can give Zakaat to your family member who is not a dependant. And furthermore it's mentioned in the Hadith of Sunan Nasai, hadith no. 2583 that "Giving charity to the poor is only charity but giving charity to your near ones, it is also building relationships." So a man cannot give Zakaat to his wife because she is a dependant but a wife can give Zakaat to the husband. Similarly a son cannot give Zakaat to the mother but another can give Zakaat to a son because the son is not dependant on the mother. It is the father who is responsible for taking care of the family. Similarly a sister can give Zakaat to the brother but natural all of these relatives who are non-dependant should fall in one of the 8 categories then they can give Zakaat to the relatives who are non-dependant.
