WATCH: ‘I’m no hero’ - says Alberton woman who rammed her vehicle into armed hijackers

01:36
The 42-year-old woman from Alberton who rammed her vehicle into a gang of hijackers in her driveway says she’s no hero. She simply did what she thought best, to protect her teenage daughter who was with her in the car, she told News24. Speaking to News24 on condition of anonymity, for fear of her family's safety, the woman said she is afraid the men will return to her home. Her arm is swollen and badly bruised after the incident, which happened on the afternoon of Monday, August 27. "My nine-month-old grandson would have been in the car with us, had it not been for a change of plans," she told News24, with tears welling up in her eyes. CCTV footage of the incident was widely circulated on social media. Many people hailed her a hero, while others called her stupid. In part, these comments prompted her to set the record straight in a sit-down interview with News24. Subscribe to News24: https://www.youtube.com/user/News24Video

WATCH: Woman saves baby ejected from car wreck

01:08
A woman who saved an 8-month-old boy lying in the road after an accident has described how her motherly instinct took over. "No mother wants a baby to be harmed," Tulonga Nepula said, as she recounted the day she picked up the infant that had survived the fatal car crash. Nepula had been travelling on the Windhoek-Okahandja road on her way to Swakopmund in Namibia when they chanced upon the deadly collision. She immediately made a beeline for the child as soon as the vehicle she was travelling in came to a stop. "The baby was crying uncontrollably, he had broken his arm and bit his tongue when he fell out of the vehicle," she said. Nepula described a scene of carnage that saw four people dead in one of the two vehicles involved in the collision. The infant had been travelling with his grandfather in the other vehicle and was the only survivor of the incident. When News24 finally tracked her down, Nepula had just come from her first visit with the baby she saved on that dusty road on 7 June. She had last seen him when she handed him over to paramedics at the scene and was happy to report that the infant is expected to make a full recovery.
