How to be a Friend to Yourself

The True and the False Self

06:55
A good life is one in which we can dare to show our True Self and do not mind too much occasionally having to wear the mask of a False Self. But for this to be possible, we need a certain sort of childhood - as the masterful British psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott helped to explain in his theory of the true and the false self, outlined here. Because our caregivers were preoccupied or fragile, we had to be preternaturally attuned to their demands, sensing that we had to comply in order to be loved and tolerated; we had to be false before we had the chance to feel properly alive. And as a result, many years later, without quite understanding the process, we risk feeling unanchored, inwardly dead and somehow not entirely present…” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://bit.ly/2qEJiJZ MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Visit us in person at our London HQ: https://bit.ly/2HqFpTn Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Download our App: https://bit.ly/2H4YtHd Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Katherine Blanchin https://vimeo.com/katebalchin #TheSchoolOfLife

10 Mistakes That Make People Use You

08:40
Have you ever noticed that a good person isn't often well respected? Psychologists believe the reason is mistakes these people make in their behavior. Here’re the most common mistakes you probably do so that people don’t respect you and never listen to you. TIMESTAMPS Needless self-sacrifice 0:40 A lack of self-respect 1:30 Seeking approval from others 2:11 Thinking that the problem is only yourself 2:54 Showing off 3:43 A fear of rejection 4:23 Being deaf to your interests 5:09 You don’t limit what’s acceptable 6:00 A fear of loneliness 6:43 You believe you need to earn respect 7:33 SUMMARY - Don’t be afraid to tell the world about what you don’t like. Actually, it might cost people nothing to meet you halfway. Otherwise, your needless self-sacrifice won’t be noticed by anyone at all. - If someone behaves in a way that they don’t give a damn about you, it means they really don’t. Don’t look for excuses for rude people – they don’t deserve it. - You don’t need to be told you’re a good person to be one. Also, don’t be scared of criticism. People will criticize you all the time for anything you do, for one reason or another.  - There is no point in looking for someone to blame. Torturing yourself won’t bring you any love from others, but only pity.  - You can show you are worth something only by believing in yourself and being yourself. When you know your value, you don’t need to prove it to anyone. - Don’t be afraid to say "no." Even the nicest people in the world may try to use you if you allow them to. Help others only when you want to. - Learn to listen to your desires, and don’t be afraid of offending others. Normally, our fears don’t have a basis in reality, and it’s always possible to find a compromise. - You need to determine the limits of acceptable behavior, and don’t let others overstep these boundaries. People who agree to anything are not respected. - You don’t need to choose between your relationship and your self-worth. When others force you to make that choice, then something is going wrong. Be brave, and don’t be afraid of change. - You don’t need to "buy" love or respect. Learn to love and be loved unconditionally. Can you easily find a common language with others? How to Parent Yourself

8 Proven Ways to Stop Being Shy And Quiet

10:01
How to become more confident? Does the idea of social interaction send panic waves through your body? Yeah, it tends to do that for shy people. But even if you’ve been the quiet type your whole life, there are lots of things you can to do build your confidence, become more charismatic, and get rid of that social awkwardness for good! Do you know that advertising your shyness, you’re only trapping yourself in this label? People might not even see you as quiet or awkward until you bring it up! And from then on, they’ll only be able to see you that way. There’s nothing wrong with being “the shy one” but holding onto that label can really set you back if you sincerely wanna open up and be more conversational. Do you wanna learn more about that? Then watch our new video! Here are 8 tips on how to stop being shy! TIMESTAMPS: Replace your negative inner voice 0:58 Embrace your strengths 1:59 Offer information 3:07 Don’t advertise your shyness 4:05 Practice your body language 4:56 Start saying yes 6:01 Stay in the moment 7:02 Do the things you’re scared to do 8:00 #shyness #selfconfidence #introvert Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - If you have a tough inner voice constantly judging you super harshly and putting you down, then you’ll be more prone to removing yourself from social situations because you expect to be judged by others just as relentlessly. - Shy quiet people are just as smart, successful, competent, and interesting as extroverts. The only difference is that shy people might have a hard time talking about what makes them unique, so others don’t get a chance to notice it. - Being in a large group of friends or acquaintances can be an awkward experience for people who suffer from social anxiety. But still, don’t wait for others to ask how you’re doing, how your projects are going, or what you did this weekend. Take the initiative to tell your friends what’s going on in your life. - Body language tells you so much about a person. In social situations, people who feel awkward or shy might cross their arms or legs, avoid eye contact, angle their body away from others, stand or sit further away, or lower their head. They might also hide behind their phone or always keep it in hand. - If you’re shy, you’re probably skilled at declining invitations just to avoid social interaction. You might even come up with excuses or go out of your way to avoid someone or some event. But when you say “no,” you create a barrier that closes off opportunities. - If you’re out with a group of friends and you’ve said something incorrectly or you think you sounded foolish, it gets that critical inner voice going and you get so caught up in your self-demeaning thoughts that you totally disengage with what’s happening at the present time. - Overcoming shyness isn’t just about learning to talk to people, it’s also about the basic principle of doing the things you’re scared to do. You learned earlier that a fear of being judged usually plays a big part in being shy. But it is a pattern of behaviour riddled with problems, as much for the perpetrator as for their audience; the people-pleaser is someone (who might at times be oneself) who feels they have no option but to mould themselves to the expectations of others, and yet, harbours all manner of secret and at points dangerous reservations and resentments. They act like the perfect lover when their real feelings are far darker; they give their assent to plans they hate; and they confuse everyone around them by failing to express, in due time, with the requisite courage, their authentic needs and ambitions...” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://bit.ly/2JDQ0sh MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Visit us in person at our London HQ: https://bit.ly/2GRZJNU Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Download our App: https://bit.ly/2JGOpBZ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Marcie LaCerte http://marslizard.net/ #TheSchoolOfLife

How To Love Yourself - How To Like Who You Are Right Now

19:18
How To Love Yourself - Stop the guilt and shame right now and start to be happy with who you are. The Ultimate Life Purpose Course - Create Your Dream Career: http://www.actualized.org/life-purpose-course Leo's Top 140 Self Help Books http://www.actualized.org/books Full Video Transcript Here: http://www.actualized.org/articles/how-to-love-yourself Video Summary: Everyone dislikes some things about themselves, but hopefully not everything. Learning to love yourself is so much more empowering than micro-analyzing your flaws through a magnifying glass. Every flaw presents you with a choice: you can try to change it, or accept it as part of you. That doesn't mean that you should use character flaws as excuses not to grow, however. Learning to tell yourself at close range that you love and accept yourself just the way you are can help you see how unnecessarily critical you've been of yourself. You're so much more than a handful of flaws. Zoom your lens out to see yourself in a more accurate perspective. Self-acceptance and self-improvement are not opposing forces. Ideally, learn to love who you are right now, and then from that amazing position, work to improve yourself. Only from a position of loving yourself can you contribute your talents to the world. When you're happy from the inside out, you exude happiness and can better design your life.

10 Questions That'll Reveal Who You Really Are

10:27
Do you know who you really are? You might think you know yourself better than anyone else, but there may be some aspects of your personality that you either subconsciously don't want to accept or don’t even notice! Luckily, this test will open your eyes to your true self! TIMESTAMPS: What’s the first thing you see in this picture? 1:05 What’s the first thing you see in this image? 2:16 Take a look at this picture: who would you help first? 3:10 Choose the odd figure among these three. 4:32 Which door will you choose to survive? 5:04 Which coffee are you? 5:44 Imagine you're scuba diving and suddenly see a mermaid. What color is her tail? 7:12 While you’re diving, you also notice a fish. What does it look like? 7:52 You suddenly spot a beautiful shell lying on the seabed. What does it look like? 8:34 You reach the shore and look around on the beach. Are there any people there? 9:16 #personalitytest #trueself #revealtruth Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY: - If you first noticed a crocodile, you’re the type of person who sees the big picture. That could mean that you sometimes take the small details in life, like a walk in the park or a cup of hot coffee in the morning, for granted. - If you immediately saw faces, you're pretty people-oriented. You're an extrovert, which means you need to charge your battery through social interaction with others. - If you chose to help the guy in crutches, you’re a leader by nature. You're, organized, practical, and focused on your life and goals. People might find you a bit cold emotionally. - If you chose the gray figure, then you are a bona-fide perfectionist! Unlike the others, the gray one isn’t a square but a rectangle. - An experienced survivalist would choose door number two. While lions are known to survive without food for as long as a month, starving for two months will definitely kill the animal. - If you're an espresso, you’re more traditional and prefer to keep it simple. As for you double espressos, work means a lot to you. You're determined, responsible, and maybe a little impatient. - The color of the mermaid's tail shows how sociable you are and how well you interact with others. - If the fish you imagined is docile and inoffensive, chances are that you can confidently stand up for your opinion and defend the things you believe in. - The shell indicates how open you are towards the people around you. - If the beach is crowded, you're probably a social butterfly, constantly surrounded by friends and acquaintances. How Do You Get To Know Yourself Fully? - Sadhguru answers at Entreprenuers Organization Meet

06:01
Sadhguru looks at how unfortunately, most people do not pay enough attention to what lies within. He explains how the human system is the most sensitive and sophisticated machine on the planet. When we have such a wonderful gadget in our hands, we can't afford to operate like a "blacksmith"! Sadhguru Talks @ Entreprenuers Organization Meet, Chennai, Feb 2013 ***************************** Full Transcript: Sadhguru: Just got to be introduced, that’s all. (Laughter) You’re paying too much attention to everything around you, not enough attention to this one. (Gestures) But the quality of your life is essentially determined by how you carry this one. Yes or no? This moment, what kind of clothes you’re wearing, what kind of car you parked outside, what kind of home you live in - does not determine the quality of your life. This moment how joyful are you feeling within yourself, determines the quality of your life; isn’t it so? Nothing has been done about it. You think it will happen in consequence and you’re setting impossible goals for your happiness. ‘If I have to be happy, my wife should be like this, my hus… husband should be like that, my children should be like this, the world should become some other way.’ Well, these are impossible conditions you’re setting for your happiness and peacefulness. Love Yourself First

29:55
Why you must learn to love, accept and be proud of yourself first in order to meet, date and keep the kind of women you’ve always wanted in your life. In this video coaching newsletter, I discuss two different emails from two different viewers. The first email is from a viewer who is in college and met a woman who knocked his socks off during the summer break from college. They had a passionate love affair that ended at the end of the summer because he over-pursued her. She blew him off and never returned any of his messages or calls. The following summer he ran into her again. By this time he had read my book and had no interest in dating her again because of how she treated him. However, she introduced him to her hot single sister. They hit it off and have been dating ever since. She is crazy about him. The second email is from a successful Heavy Metal musician who recently discovered my work. He realized why he was always successful with women when performing. It was due to the fact that he loved what he was doing and loved his life. He also mentions how he noticed that his musician friends who did the best with women were successful because they had the most passion for their music, not because they were bad boys. It was about their mission and passion, not women. Because of this, women threw themselves at them. “In order to be successful in your intimate relationships, you must love, accept, value and have a great relationship with yourself first. You can’t give away what you don’t already have for yourself. After all, love is about giving. If you can’t have an awesome time by yourself, you will never be able to be happy in your relationships. Why? When we depend upon people or things outside ourselves in order to be happy, eventually we will realize that we are unhappy and it will become nearly impossible to sustain the relationship or our success. Therefore, in order to have great relationships, we must first create a life and lifestyle that is compelling, fulfilling and that we are proud of. When you are proud of yourself, your life and your journey, even if you are not where you ultimately want to be, you’ll make yourself so attractive that others will become excited about joining you to be a part of it.” ~ Coach Corey Wayne If you have not read my book, “How To Be A 3% Man” yet, that would be a good starting place for you. 8 SCIENTIFIC TRICKS TO BECOME PERFECTLY HAPPY

There are thousands of tips and psychological techniques to help you feel happy. But what if our own body had a say in the matter? Here are some findings from neuroscientists — the people who know exactly when and why your brain can give you the feeling of total satisfaction! Our brain experiences pleasure by simply anticipating the fun event. - For every right decision, our brain rewards itself with a dose of neurotransmitters that calm the limbic system and help us once again see the world in a better light. - Advisable not to keep your problems pent up. Whenever you talk about them, your brain triggers the production of serotonin and even manages to find some positive sides to the situation. - To us, humans, social interaction is important. Various forms of physical support, especially touch and embraces, can speed up a person’s recovery from an illness. - For the brain, acquiring new knowledge means permanent adaptation to a changing environment. Using this process, our brain develops, rewarding its own attempts to absorb and process new information with dopamine, the hormone of joy. - Physical activity is stress for the body. As soon as the stress ends, your body gets a reward: a dose of endorphins, released by the pituitary gland. - While we sleep in the dark, our body secretes the hormone melatonin. This hormone slows down all processes in the body, helping it to recover and increasing the level of serotonin in the hypothalamus. - When we say a person, or even fate, for something, we focus ourselves on the positive aspects of life. Pleasant memories trigger serotonin production in the anterior cingulate cortex. Alan Watts - Stop ACTING Like Yourself - Really BE Yourself !

13:01
Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British-born philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known as an interpreter and populariser of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience. Born in Chislehurst, England, he moved to the United States in 1938 and began Zen training in New York. Pursuing a career, he attended Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, where he received a master's degree in theology. Watts became an Episcopal priest in 1945, then left the ministry in 1950 and moved to California, where he joined the faculty of the American Academy of Asian Studies. Watts gained a large following in the San Francisco Bay Area while working as a volunteer programmer at KPFA, a Pacifica Radio station in Berkeley. Watts wrote more than 25 books and articles on subjects important to Eastern and Western religion, introducing the then-burgeoning youth culture to The Way of Zen (1957), one of the first bestselling books on Buddhism. In Psychotherapy East and West (1961), Watts proposed that Buddhism could be thought of as a form of psychotherapy and not a religion. He also explored human consciousness, in the essay "The New Alchemy" (1958), and in the book The Joyous Cosmology (1962). Towards the end of his life, he divided his time between a houseboat in Sausalito and a cabin on Mount Tamalpais. His legacy has been kept alive by his son, Mark Watts, and many of his recorded talks and lectures are available on the Internet. According to the critic Erik Davis, his "writings and recorded talks still shimmer with a profound and galvanizing lucidity."

Bobby Burns: YouTube VS. Happiness | Is Being Yourself Enough?

10:01
Affordable private online counseling: https://www.betterhelp.com/psychirl One of the running themes that may seem like my channel is based on in regards to analyzing youtubers is, “forget the YouTube rules to growth. Just be yourself, and you’ll be successful”. You see this message in my videos about Shane Dawson and PewDiePie, but thinking this way can be dangerous. Although their success can offer aspiring small youtubers valuable lessons, we have to remember that many have followed in their footsteps and have failed. We often put too much emphasize on studying how someone got to the top, but too little studying people who didn’t make it. This is called survivorship bias. So, despite the fact that many of the biggest creators on YouTube have broken the “focus on a niche” rule, we can’t ignore the fact that many more have broken this rule too and failed. A point even more overlooked is creators who do stick to a niche, but become increasingly demotivated, uncreative, and ultimately unhappy, and in my opinion this is most identified in the creator, Bobby Burns. How to Avoid an Attack If You're Being Followed or Watched

08:25
This may happen to anybody: you're walking home and suddenly notice that somebody is following you. Your natural reaction – having a panic attack – won’t help, but there are several ways how to protect yourself from being attacked or robbed. Remember, you should stay alert at all times. Any time you're going home, taking a dog for a walk, strolling the streets on your own, stay focused and observant. Glance around and behind yourself every half a minute or so. Try to notice everything out of the ordinary and analyze the situation. And if your instinct or reason tells you that somebody is stalking you, it's time for some actions. In case you’re sure you’re being followed, try to lose them. Cross the street as if you need to do this. If you're lucky, they may even lose you in a crowd, around a building, or behind cars. Check who is following you - confront the danger head-on. What is more, you immediately alert the person who is after you that you're well aware that they are on your tail. Sometimes, it's enough to cause a person to stop. Call your friends or, if you’re in immediate danger, call the police. If your cell phone's battery is dead or you can't use it, enter any establishment on your way, inform them that you're being followed, and ask them to call the police. If you decide to run away, go to areas full of people: first of all, your stalker may lose you among other people; secondly, they will unlikely hurt you or rob in front of others. If the criminal gets ahold of you, be cooperative, listen to the criminal, don't talk, and follow their instructions. If a person threatens you with a knife or a gun, such cooperation will lower the chances that they will harm you. If you understand that you're being attacked, use everything you have at hand to fight off the criminal. Keys, a heavy bag, fingers, fists, a book; you can use anything to protect yourself. #stalker #beingwatched #stranger Music: Butchers - Silent Partner https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS First of all, make sure that a stranger is following you 1:05 Pretend to be unaware 1:30 Cross the street 1:50 Turn around and look at your stalker 2:30 Contact friends and relatives 3:00 Call the police 3:36 Scream, yell and make as much noise as possible 4:14 Run away 4:33 Don't head for your home 5:34 If the criminal gets ahold of you 6:14 SUMMARY -Casually stop, pretending to be tying a shoelace or searching for something in your bag or pocket. Scan people behind your back memorizing some details of their appearance. -Make some stops, look in store windows, take a break to admire a pretty car choosing the dark ones to see the stalker’s reflexion without looking right at him. -To make the task more difficult for the person following you, cross the street or turn the corner. -Don't be embarrassed to turn around and check who is following you. -If you've made sure that you can't get rid of the stalker, text or call those of your friends or family members who are likely to be nearby. -If you feel that you're in immediate danger, and there're no people around, call emergency services. -Even if you simply shout "help me" or "fire," the criminal may get scared away. If not, try to get away yourself. -Don't feel embarrassed to start running. However, by no means move down any alleyways, corridors, or streets with only a couple of ways in and out; you can get trapped there. -Don't go home unless you're one hundred percent sure that nobody is following you. -If the criminal gets ahold of you, don't hesitate and give them all the money and other valuables you have with you. If you’re being attacked, kick the assailant in the groin region, poke their eyes, scratch, bite, strike them in the face with the open hand; your life can depend on that. At the age of twenty-nine, a profound inner transformation radically changed the course of his life. The next few years were devoted to understanding, integrating, and deepening that transformation, which marked the beginning of an intense inward journey. Eckhart’s profound yet simple teachings have already helped countless people throughout the world find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of the teachings lies the transformation of consciousness, a spiritual awakening that he sees as the next step in human evolution. An essential aspect of this awakening includes transcending our ego-based state of consciousness. This is a prerequisite not only for personal happiness but also for the ending of violent conflict endemic on our planet. Eckhart Tolle is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Power of Now (translated into 33 languages) and the highly acclaimed follow-up A New Earth, which are widely regarded as two of the most influential spiritual books of our time. About The Flowering of Human Consciousness In The Flowering of Human Consciousness, Eckhart explains the process of entering the "miraculous" state of presence that is always available to us. We are lost, he says, in the maze of our own compulsive thoughts. Only by ceasing this "mental noise" can we dissolve our egos, and enable the "flowering of a new consciousness" to proceed — a transformation that cannot be understood with the mind. From guidance about stress and career to insights into the nature of the ego and the delusion of time, here is a far-reaching session that documents the vision of this modern spiritual teacher, and the truth he brings. Sounds True was founded in 1985 by Tami Simon with a clear mission: to disseminate spiritual wisdom. Since starting out as a project with one woman and her tape recorder, we have grown into a multimedia publishing company with more than 80 employees, a library of more than 1500 titles featuring some of the leading teachers and visionaries of our time, and an ever-expanding family of customers from across the world. You Can't Call Yourself a Driver If You Don't Know These 9 Secrets

08:11
Every driver knows that having a car is not easy. You have to deal with many little problems all the time. What’s the most efficient way to use your AC in the summer? How to get unstuck from mud or sand? Even if you’re an experienced driver, it never hurts to learn some extra tips you didn’t know before. #drivingtips #drivinghacks #driverbegginer 💥 By the way, there is a cat hidden in this video. Hint: it's black! If you can spot our furry little guy, you're much more attentive than most people! 😽 Other videos you might like: If You See This On Your Car, Don't Touch It And Ask for Help! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yCgpCnXyUc 8 Things You’re Doing Wrong When Driving Fast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nen9Vdatpik& Why Police Touch Your Taillight, It's Extremely Important! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M7OO9NrEzI TIMESTAMPS: Get ahead of another car safely 0:25 Take good care of your wipers 1:07 Use your AC wisely in the summer 2:16 Be careful with your AC in the winter 3:33 Start your car when it's freezing outside 4:22 Get unstuck from mud or sand 5:05 Pay attention to the wheels 5:53 Take the most out of your car alarm 6:25 Mind the details 7:16 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Every now and then you just have to overtake another car on a narrow two-lane road to get to your destination faster. Whenever you feel like you don’t have enough time to end it, turn back to your lane and not the side of the road. - Whenever the frost is coming, remove the wiper blades overnight and they won’t freeze to the glass. And finally, never ever run the wipers on a dry windshield. They are meant to be used on a wet surface. - Imagine it's a hot summer day, you get in the car that's been in the sun for hours. But the AC system accumulates toxic substances you don't want to breath in. So pump out the hot air naturally before you get in the car. - If you live in climate where seasons do change and winters are snowy and cold, you most likely only use you AC in the summer. If you make it sleep all winter long, you might not be able to turn it back on in the summer. The same is true for the heater, you have to turn it on at least for 30 seconds even in the summer months. - When it's below 14 °F outside and you get in your vehicle, don't try to start it straight away. Before you start it, turn on the high beams for 3 to 5 seconds. It will let you run the current through your system and help the engine start easier. - In case you get stuck in mud, sand or snow, don’t panic and remember there’s always a way to get out. Deflate the tires letting out about half of the air from them to increase their surface area. - When you're driving along a narrow road, and there is a flow of cars going your way, pay attention to their wheels. If you feel like the driver is acting weirdly don't wait for them to flash the turn signals. - It’s really smart to keep the remote control apart from the rest of your keys and always keep it in your pocket. Also, don’t activate the Anti Theft mode just for fun. - It's pretty obvious that you have to keep your windshield clean, but there are some things you might oversee in this process. You side car windows have rubber molding that you most likely forget to clean. Tony Robbins: How to Define Yourself ( Tony Robbins Motivation )

16:01
Everyone struggles to figure out who people truly are. Often when they define themselves they focus on the negative or how they compare to other people. Nobody but you can define who you are but this article has some tips on how to look at the ways you define yourself and how to make it positive. 1. Discovering Your Identity Know yourself. Self-knowledge, particularly non-judgemental self knowledge, is an incredibly important skill to help you define yourself. You'll need to understand what makes you tick and what your thought processes are before you can define who you are as a person. Mindfulness means paying attention to what you are thinking and observing your patterns of thought. For instance, you might realize that you have a tendency to feel that people don't care what you think and that your opinions are unimportant. Recognizing that you have these thoughts and catching them before they start causing you anxiety, can help you piece together the important parts of your identity. When you start paying attention to your thought processes and patterns you'll need to practice attentive non-judgment. This means being aware of your thought patterns and acknowledging them, but not beating yourself up over them. Everyone has negative thought patterns and processes. By paying attention to them, you can eliminate them from your mind. Notice how you identify yourself. Once you start paying attention to the way you think about yourself and about the world, look specifically for the ways in which you identify yourself. See what groups and communities you use to create your identity. All of these inform how you see yourself and tell you what you are letting define you. For example, look at things like religion, nationality, sexual identity and see if those are ways you define yourself. Look at the roles you take on, such as your job, your position in your family (mother, father, sister, brother), your romantic status (single, couple, etc.). Jot down thought processes and self definitions. To become adept at seeing your thought processes and definitions and how those determine how you act and who you are, write them down in a notebook as you identify them. You'll be able to see how you consider yourself and it will make it easier to eliminate the negative associations. Talking to and working with a clinical psychologist can greatly help in uncovering patterns of thinking and being. They can also help you deal with the more negative aspects of your thinking. 2. Creating Your Self-Definition Record your negative definitions. Recording them and paying attention to them will help you let go of them. Getting them out in the open can help to take away some of their hold on your mind and self. Don't limit yourself in negative ways. Definition of the self determines the action. So, for instance, if you're defining yourself as someone who has bad romantic relationships, you've already lost the potential for a good romantic relationship. It is a story that you tell yourself, and then because you believe the story, you will already be behaving in ways that make the story true. Identify your core values. You don't want to define yourself based on outside forces, because outside forces are volatile and subject to constant change. By basing your self-definition on core values, you will have a better chance of having a stable self-definition.[5] You won't lose your self identity if you base it on values you hold at your core, like compassion, courage, integrity. Write down a list of these values and consciously and mindfully act them out in your daily life. Therefore, if courage is one of your core values, stand up for someone being harassed at the bus stop, or if honesty is a core value, fess up to having lost your father's favorite watch. If compassion is on that list, spend time volunteering at a homeless shelter. Define yourself in positive ways. This doesn't mean that you don't acknowledge the negative events and actions that have happened in your life. They are as much a part of you as the positive, but they do not define you. This means don't let outside circumstances rule your identity. That comes from within in, from the core values that you have already identified as being important to your identity. Understand that the negative experiences in your life have offered knowledge. For example, if you have had negative experiences with romance, learn from those experiences. What have they taught you about the kind of person you want to be?

How To Be Attractive - The Ultimate Attraction Strategy

16:45
How To Be Attractive - A single, deep insight that will make you ridiculously attractive to the opposite sex. The Ultimate Life Purpose Course - Create Your Dream Career: http://www.actualized.org/life-purpose-course Leo's Top 140 Self Help Books http://www.actualized.org/books Full Video Transcript Here: http://www.actualized.org/articles/how-to-be-attractive Video Summary: Tips and tricks and cheats are not the way to be more attractive to a potential partner. The secret to being attractive is to be completely happy and fulfilled all by yourself, without relying on a romantic relationship. But that's the last thing anyone wants to hear who's lonely for love. If you're looking for another person to make up for your deficiencies, you'll only attract someone who's also needy and deficient. Being needy drives away anybody of quality. It's also being dishonest with yourself by simply taking the focus off of your inadequacies. That of course is not the road map for success in any relationship. To find the love of your life, become someone who's happily living an enriched life. Be authentic. Psychological independence is being happy by yourself, and wanting everyone else to be happy too. You cannot be authentic with anyone from whom you need something. That's why relationships based on neediness are doomed to failure. When you're busy meeting your own needs, you're more likely to meet someone who's equally self-sufficient. The synergy of the two of you together will be better than the sum of your parts.

An Instruction Manual To Oneself

We don’t need our lovers to be perfect. We need them to warn us of their quirks in good time. We need them to give us an instruction manual to themselves. Cut It Like Johnette Napolitano - Spoken Word Poetry About Being Yourself By Cristina Munoz

10:10
Cut It Like Johnette Napolitano by Cristina Munoz about being yourself, being true to yourself and not hiding who you really are from yourself or anyone. If you're supportive of the talented women in alternative pop and rock go and support the Facebook page at http://soundofwomen.com For more spoken word poetry, poetry, short stories and articles plus to read Cut It Like Johnette Napolitano in easy to read print, go to my medium blog at https://medium.com/@cristinamunoz You can click to follow me and be notified of my new stories as I post them. You can also follow me and or add me as a friend on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/cristinamunoz8 Being ten minutes long written out its too long to fit in a YouTube description so you'll be able to access it no problem above. Cut It Like Johnette Napolitano - Spoken Word Poetry by Cristina Munoz is also a true story about being in my early twenties, with too long hair and meeting Johnette Napolitano when she was with Concrete Blonde back when they toured Australia with their FREE album. "May pure inspiration only be a heart beat away from Johnette Napolitano until the day she takes her last breath. Thank you Johnette for the impact you have had in my life which gave me the courage when I was twenty two to come out from behind my hair and really be me." Meeting Johnette Napolitano was part of a series of Events which helped me stop hiding from myself, actually come out and cut through my own bullshit to finally be completely true to myself when I was twenty three. Thus Cut It Like Johnette Napolitano is spoken word poetry with subtext about being gay Being born Spanish, raised Catholic and a first generation Australian with all the baggage it comes with coming out at twenty three was like letting a bomb explode within my family which is part of why it took me ten years to accept I was a lesbian myself. It was helped even less by the fact I wanted to be a writer. Johnette being eleven years older than me showed me a snap shot of what I could be when I really grew up as a writer if I remained true and for that I will be forever grateful to her. The image I used as a thumbnail is not owned by me. I chose it as it was the only photo I could find of the exact same hairstyle Johnette Napolitano had when i first met her. It's also the hair style Matt gave me after he finally got to cut off all my too long hair." Cristina Munoz is mainly known world wide for making a living blogging and marketing however after a spinal fusion left her bedridden unable to use her laptop anymore in 2014 by 2016 she returned back to writing using her iPad. Cristina Munoz is also a published Australian Poet. Her poetry was first recorded, played on air by TripleJ Australia Wide , and then published in TripleJ's Word Up Anthology. Cristina's work has also been published in literary journal Poetry Australia. Being a passionate lover of music Cristina Munoz has also had album reviews published in Beat Magazine in Melbourne. Cut It Like Johnette Napolitano is currently unpublished. Interested Publishers are welcome to contact Cristina at:- cristinamunozen (AT) gmail.com Please feel free to share especially if you are a fan of Johnette Napolitano in Dream 6, Concrete Blonde, Vowel Movement with Holly Beth Vincent, Pretty & Twisted, as the lead singer for The Heads and all her amazing solo albums.

Why comfort will ruin your life | Bill Eckstrom | TEDxUniversityofNevada

12:35
After documenting and researching over 50,000 coaching interactions in the workplace, Bill Eckstrom shares life-altering, personal and professional development ideas through the introduction of the “Growth Rings.” The rings illustrate how dangerous it can be to remain in a state of comfort and how being in discomfort is the only way to sustain growth. You’ll be amazed at the world-changing outcomes discomfort can have on your life and the lives of others. Bill Eckstrom is an entrepreneur, author, speaker, outdoorsman and father of three. With a passion deeply rooted in growth and development, Bill has always been fascinated by the role a coach has on the performance of individuals and teams. As a result, he founded the EcSell Institute whose sole focus is to educate, track and measure coaching effectiveness for leaders within organizations around the world. This has led to hundreds of keynotes, published articles and e-books created from the research and documentation of coaching interactions and outcomes. How To Stop Being So Hard On Yourself

04:00
Many of us grow up learning that we need to keep pushing forward, at all times and at all costs. But when do we recognize that we need a break and let ourselves be okay with that? In the pursuit of success and our dreams many of us fail to listen to our bodies and minds and allow ourselves a much needed timeout from all that we are doing. Check out my website for articles &tips. www.shannonmiller.me/articles 1. Stop comparing yourself to others Have you ever really met the Jones's? Me neither and if you did I am not too sure you would want to be friends with them anyway. Someone will always have more or less stuff, knowledge or time than do you. Comparing yourself to others is a sure fire way to add more stress to your life. It is the first ingredient in being hard on yourself. Don't do it. 2. Say NO to tasks that are not vital Your plates is full so saying no to tasks that are not vital can lighten your load and remove some stress. It will give you the ability to complete what matters most leaving you with a sense of accomplishment. 3. Allow yourself downtime Take a nap, get outside to enjoy the sunshine, pick up a book or dive into a hobby that you haven't let yourself enjoy in a while. You work hard and you deserve time to enjoy life, give yourself permission and make it a priority. 4. Disconnect from technology Put down your cell phone, walk away from Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Give yourself at least one full day a month (a week would be ideal but let's start small) disconnecting from these constant sources of noise. Allow your head to have some calm and clarity without the streams of activity and action flooding your weary mind. How to Be Charming When Talking About Yourself

03:53
It’s sometimes assumed that talking too much about ourselves is rude; and asking questions of others is polite and charming. But the distinction is not quite so simple. There are far better and worse ways of speaking about ourselves. We end up charming when we dare to reveal our vulnerabilities to others. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): https://goo.gl/L4fKqq Join our mailing list: http://bit.ly/2e0TQNJ Or visit us in person at our London HQ https://goo.gl/i1am3f FURTHER READING “Polite people have it instilled in them from an early age that they should not talk too much about themselves. A few comments aside, they should – to prove appealing – always ask the other about their lives or stick to impersonal topics found in newspapers, lest they be accused of that heinous charge: self-absorption. But this rule fails to distinguish between different ways of talking about oneself. There are, as well-mannered people sometimes forget, better and worse ways to share details of one’s life. It is not the amount that one talks that should determine the issue; only how one does so…” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/eNzT6a MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/aXbgts Watch more films on RELATIONSHIPS in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLrelationships You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Andrew Foerster http://www.rewfoe.com/ #TheSchoolOfLife

Be Yourself Because That's The Only Way To Success | This Video Will Explode Your Mind!

05:44
Be yourself, always. It is truly the only way to succeed in any career that you choose. It is easier to be yourself because you don't have to lie, cheat, or act unnatural. In this video about being yourself we will explain why it is vital to never be or act as someone else. Everyone dreams of being someone or something they’re not? Just be yourself. No child has not heard of these words, “What/Who do you want to be when you grow up?” Many answered: their mom/mom, police, firefighter, actor, and so on. However, have you ever heard any child say, myself? We live in an age filled with fantasies, imagination, and wild dreams. The same can be said since the arrival of humankind. Hollywood portraits superheroes as saviors of humanity, yet they’re merely drawings and imaginations of creative minds. Why do we obsess about being something or someone that we can’t? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be someone else. The real issue is when you forsaken and abandon yourself. Out of the 100+ billions of humans who have lived and perished, there is not a single one as unique as you. Each one of us has our own book to write. Some will have the same beginning and ending; however, no one of us has the same middle. Ever since learning and studying about myself, I’ve come to learn two vital components. One, be the very best that you can. Two, enjoy and love yourself and your own presence. Society encourages marriage, connecting with others, and mingling with those that give you warmth and love. What about ourselves? Probably not so much. That is why we’re going to stress the significance of being yourself. #beyourself #TheOnlyWayYouCanBeSuccessfulIsToBeYourself #beyourselfvideo ================================================= ► Click to read the ORIGINAL Be Yourself : https://easylifejourney.com/be-yourself/ ► Take Care Of Yourself Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM2hR3tH8EM ► How To Take Risk Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1rx3JEIWZ8 ► How To Believe In Yourself Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmT2ADalmjs ► Hope you enjoyed this video, help us reach 10K SUBSCRIBERS BY SUMMER 19' by 🙇‍♂️ ►SUBSCRIBING◄ to our YT channel! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbLbibM1gn4KwG7S3MF3mUw?sub_confirmation=1 ► Please hit the 👍🏻 like button and share if you enjoyed this video. ► Connect with us on our Social Medias: 🔔 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/easylifejourney 📘 FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/easylifejourney 🅿️ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/easylifejourney 🕊 Twitter: https://twitter.com/easylifejourney ℹ️ Linkin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tyler-cranston-5720b1172/ ➕ Google+: https://plus.google.com/112085897735623056536 📧 Email: [email protected] ► Easy Life Journey will show you what is the meaning of life regarding health, happiness, wealth, lifestyle, but most importantly, living life w/o any limits. How To Stop Feeling Stuck & Start Being Yourself w/ Courtney Diamond

This one is super important to me. How to stop feeling stuck and start being yourself. The second part has never really been a problem for me somehow, or at least not as much as the first one: how to stop feeling stuck. I actually wrote articles about this and talked about it to so many friends who unfortunately had no idea how to help/guide me. The story of the human race is the story of men and women selling themselves short, settling for far less than they are truly capable of. The truth is we’re all meant to thrive. We came into this world with more talents and abilities than most of us ever use. Our potential is only drawn from us when we are focused on our strengths, and embrace who we really are. As you grow you realize most people are oblivious to the turmoil in our society and their lack of freedom. There is nothing worse than living a life somebody else designed for you. The system is designed so the majority fail, which is exactly what they are doing.
