https://mocomi.com/ presents : Segregation of Waste Garbage - How to do Waste Management at home? Garbage pollution is a HUGE global problem. We produce so many products and throw out so much every day that garbage and waste disposal is turning into a major ecological nightmare. Garbage pollution consists of many things. Certain items are not biodegradable (they do not decompose easily ie Plastics) but can be reused or recycled. In fact, it is believed that a large portion of the garbage we create can be recycled. Some can be converted to compost, a large portion can be recycled while a small portion could be considered non recyclable and put into a land fill. Garbage is classified into four categories 1. Waste: This should be disposed of separately. eg- Dry and Wet 2. Toxic Wastes: This includes medicines, batteries, dried paint, old bulbs, and dried shoe polish which needs special care when we dispose of them. 3. Wet or organic waste: This consists of leftover foodstuff, vegetable peels, etc., should be put in a compost pit and the compost could be used as manure in the garden. 4. Dry waste: Waste consisting of cans, aluminum foils, plastics, metal, glass, and paper could be recycled. Watch this video to understand why waste or garbage needs to be segregated every time it is put out. URL Software has developed system for Solid Waste Collection Management, Monitoring & Reporting. Bar code sticker is pasted on the doors of individual's houses, Dustbins & Vehicles. The person who comes to your house to collect garbage has to scan Barcode. The information is immediately relayed to Municipal Corporation Server which records the data. Complete log of information is stored including Who Collected, At what time, From which latitude & longitude as well as from which Premises. On large Dustbins steel plates with Laser Engraved Bar code are riveted & welded. The moment Dustbin is emptied by Municipal Corporation Person, SMS is delivered to Society Secretary/Chairman and thus it's direct public involvement filling the gap of physical involvement in case of malpractices. Thus corporation gets every minute update online of complete Solid Waste Collection Process along with route map. Such e-governance project increases tight monitoring & better work process over and above reducing manual work load. Reports of attendance, wages, societies, contractors, dustbins can be easily generated instantly along with archived logs. All Government as well as political persons involved like Mayor of the City, Commissioner, Dy. Commissioner, E-Governance Chief, General Managers, Solid Waste Contractors, Executives, etc. gets daily report via Email/SMS automatically. Using this system, better health environment is created by using Systematic Solid Waste Collection & Management approach. ROI of the system is as low as 2 Years and we have started approaching other Municipal Corporations & are getting very good response. We have implemented successfully at GUDA (Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority) as well as RUDA (Rajkot Urban Development Authority). Internationally we have started approaching small countries who are in process of implementing e-governance. You can email us on [email protected] to know further details about the project. Sweden is able to recycle 99% of their trash, some of which they burn. Why isn't this practiced in the United States? Read More: 99 Per Cent Of Sweden's Garbage Is Now Recycled http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/09/02/sweden-recycling_n_5738602.html "There's a "recycling revolution" happening in Sweden - one that has pushed the country closer to zero waste than ever before. In fact, less than one per cent of Sweden's household garbage ends up in landfills today." The sensible Swedes burn a lot of their garbage. Why can't we? http://www.slate.com/articles/business/the_juice/2014/07/wte_in_sweden_weirdly_enough_burning_garbage_makes_environmental_sense.html "The Swedes generate a decent amount of garbage, just like everybody else-465 kilograms per capita of waste in 2010, or about 1,070 pounds per person. Aggressive recycling programs that hoover up about 50 percent of the country's waste have helped radically reduce the amount of junk going to landfills." Energy Recovery from Waste http://www.epa.gov/waste/nonhaz/municipal/wte/ "Energy recovery from waste is the conversion of non-recyclable waste materials into useable heat, electricity, or fuel through a variety of processes, including combustion, gasification, pyrolization, anaerobic digestion, and landfill gas recovery. This process is often called waste-to-energy." Air Emissions & Clean Energy http://www.epa.gov/cleanenergy/energy-and-you/affect/air-emissions.html "Although municipal solid waste includes renewable resources, its use as a source of energy has been met with controversy." ____________________ DNews is dedicated to satisfying your curiosity and to bringing you mind-bending stories & perspectives you won't find anywhere else! Up to 76% of India’s household waste goes to landfills, open dumps and water bodies, even though 85% of it is recyclable! In April 2016, India launched updated nationwide rules for Solid Waste Management, a key part of which includes segregation (sorting of waste) in all houses. We take a look at India’s most progressive city for waste management and segregation in houses: Bangalore. Bangalore was once known as a green city, but of recent times it has become known as a garbage city. Landfills started polluting groundwater, incidence of disease increased as did smell. Through citizen and NGOs movements, Bangalore became the first city in India to implement segregation in houses - where they segregate into 1) wet waste including kitchen scraps, 2) dry waste including recyclables such as paper and plastic, and 3) reject waste which includes sanitary napkins, diapers, glass etc. Hear from Shekar Prabhakar, co-founder of Hasiru Dala, which has been a leader in driving this change in Bangalore. Hear how they recycle the different types of waste and are getting to 90% diversion from landfill! Also Hear from Mansoor, who represented India at COP21. Previously a waste-picker, he's now a successful entrepreneur managing 1 of Bangalore's 180 Dry Waste Collection Centres. His centre sorts 1.5 tonnes of waste every day into 25 categories. He shares why it’s important for houses to segregate waste and leaves us with his belief that waste is the responsibility of all of us. This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: Waste management Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Learning by listening is a great way to: - increases imagination and understanding - improves your listening skills - improves your own spoken accent - learn while on the move - reduce eye strain Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! This includes the collection, transport, treatment and disposal of waste, together with monitoring and regulation of the waste management process. Waste can be solid, liquid, or gaseous and each type has different methods of disposal and management. Waste management deals with all types of waste, including industrial, biological, and household. In some cases waste can pose a threat to human health. Waste is produced by human activity, for example the extraction and processing of raw materials. Waste management is intended to reduce adverse effects of waste on human health, the environment or aesthetics. Waste management practices are not uniform among countries (developed and developing nations); regions (urban and rural areas), and residential and industrial sectors can all take different approaches.A large portion of waste management practices deal with municipal solid waste (MSW) which is the bulk of the waste that is created by household, industrial, and commercial activity.

10 Most Environmentally Damaging Industries! From industrial waste to acid rain…stay tuned to number 1 to find out 10 of the most polluting industries in the world. This top 10 brought to you by Zero2Hero!! Don't forget to subscribe here! https://goo.gl/NXuChu Click here to see 10 Mansions That No One Wants To Buy!! https://youtu.be/XASGVgYmRdI Number 10: Agriculture. There can be no denying that pesticides and other chemicals used by the agricultural industry pollute the environment. Studies continue to show the negative impact that these chemicals can have on local wildlife and water sources. There is no one single cause of agriculture pollution. Pesticides and fertilizers, contaminated water, soil erosion and sedimentation, and livestock diet and waste requirements can cause health related issues and have an effect on aquatic animals. In 2016, the Guardian covered a report which stated that farming was the biggest cause of air pollution in Europe. The study at the heart of the 2016 Guardian article takes it a step further by highlighting the industries impact on air pollution. When the nitrogen compounds are mixed with air already polluted from other industries, they combine to form solid particles that can stick in the fine lung tissue of children and adults, causing breathing difficulties, and impaired lung and heart function…eventually leading premature expiration. Number 9: Industrial Dumpsites. It would be hard to put an exact number on the number of industrial dumpsites that exist in the world. Some countries are less forthcoming about the number of the large-scale dumpsites they have. Nevertheless, the polluting impact of these sites are well-known. Both open dumpsites and municipal landfills are used around the world, often containing scrap metal, agricultural waste, hospital and household waste, and chemical waste from industrial processes. The mixture of toxic substances and decaying organic material can impact the soil quality of the areas surrounding a landfill site. Add rain to the mix and the result is a serious contamination of the local ground water. As a result, they are also the last place anyone would want to live, but unfortunately, as a 2017 study brought to light, around 15 million people live and work within huge municipal dump sites around the world. Many of these people who are born and raised in these environments only have an average life expectancy of around 35 years, and many face multiple health issues associated to pollution from dumpsites. Number 8: Fashion Industry. Before we talk about the fashion industy’s environmental impact, take a moment to like this video and join the Zero2Hero community by using the buttons below! Fashion has been the focus of a lot of attention recently. News articles, websites and blogs have featured pieces about pollution in the fashion industry. In comparison to some of the other entries in this list, fashion is the most unlikely entry on this list. Nevertheless, ‘fast fashion’, is has having a considerable impact on the environment, and in particular, through water pollution. Since the year 2000, global clothing production has more than doubled in size and, with thousands of new clothes lines a year, consumers are constantly encouraged to buy the newest item. A shocking amount of this ends up in landfill sites. The production and usage of the clothes also causes pollution. The production of clothes requires land for factories, cotton production for material, water and fuel for manufacturing, and there is the potential for lots of toxic chemicals for dyes and so on. Every time we wash them, thousands of plastic fibbers go down the drain and into the rivers, oceans, and according to some recent findings, even into the food chain. Number 7: Dye Industry. In close association with fashion, the dye industry is also a significant polluter. We find dyes in paints, textiles, inks, paper and plastics, which we all use every day. One of the main polluting factors of the dye industries is water pollution which, in turn, has an impact on the local environment and population. The water waste from dye production carries a host of different chemicals. Chromium, lead, mercury, arsenic, as well as a host of other pollutants enter water sources after being directly dumped into surface water without treatment. It won’t take you long online to find photographs from alleged dye factories that run their waste directly into rivers, often causing a visible change in the water. Even without visible change, unchecked dumping of dye water waste has a massive impact on the local environments the factories are based in. Number 6: Product Manufacturing. As the developed world gets greedier and everyone else is catching up, more and more consumer products are being created to satisfy an ever-increasing need. This in turn creates a demand for product manufacturing.

Alex Jensen speaks of the Political Economy of Zero Waste by calling for a ban on packaged food and promotion of Localisaton of Food . Waste is fuelled by the use of plastics and the subsidies it receives in different forms. The legitimising of plastics through mantras of recycling is also affects one section of people at the cost of another.. Check out this episode of the suburban aquaponics series to see the addition of a new fish tank. I had one more barrel left from my original Craigslist find and though it would make a perfect addition. I am getting close to the addition of some "real" fish into the system and needed a separate place for them to hang out away from the gold fish. I will be moving the goldfish out the an outdoor setup in the spring but for now they will be staying in the system. I think I have found a good supplier of tilapia at a fair price and I am hoping to get them to breed once established so I will not have to buy them again. This will be an exciting time over the next couple of months! The fish tank is just made from another 55 gallon drum with the top cut off. I have found it easiest to use a circular saw or skill saw to cut the tops off. This gives you an easy guide to follow(the top rim) and gives you the straightest cuts. I have used a reciprocating saw and a jig saw with mixed results so I would recommend the circular saw for the best cut. The bulkhead adapters that I am using are the same ones I have used throughout the system with one exception, I went with 1 1/2" instead of 2" like the rest. I wanted to get a bit more velocity with the solids lifting overflow in the second tank as I will eventually have larger fish with larger food and waste. The smaller piping with the same amount of water being pumped into the tank should give me a faster flow and have more solids lifting power. The solids lifting overflow is a standard and common design among aquaponics hobbyists. It consists of a pvc tee with one pipe going tot he bottom of the tank to collect the water and solids and another pipe going to the top of the tank to prevent any siphon from forming if water drains from the system ( a leak). The water outlet in this case just goes to the primary tank and then gets lifting out to the swirl filter. Watch and read more here about Treated Human Waste as Fertilizer: http://bit.ly/1oWCLX5 Sewage sludge accumulated by more than four million residents in Los Angeles is extracted and treated at the Hyperion Treatment Plant, the city's largest and oldest wastewater treatment facility. There, human waste is processed and treated over the span of two weeks. In part, it entails screening for foreign objects, separating liquids from solids, and killing off pathogens at a specific temperature. The goal: create biosolids for a variety of purposes, including fertilizer that's deemed safe under regulations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. And approximately 75 percent of those biosolids -- that's 500 tons a day! -- are loaded on trucks headed to Kern County. But not everyone is on board. In 2006, voters in Kern County passed a ballot measure intended to ban the process of depositing L.A.'s biosolids at the city of L.A.'s Green Acres Farm. But eight years later, the dumping debate still continues. The Asotin County Regional Landfill comprises approximately 76 acres and is located in the Clarkston Heights. The landfill began in 1975 on the western half of the landfill site. This portion comprises approximately 46 acres and is an unlined landfill area which closed in 1993 as Municipal Solid Waste regulations changed, requiring a liner system, leachate and gas collection systems. (http://www.asotincountyregionallandfill.com) The landfill made up of notable plastic waste attracting lots of seagulls and crows. However, we are worrying about the health for these seagulls, crows, livestock and people living close to the landfill. We want to highlight the environmental damage caused by the plastic waste, since it is the potential threat, and the damage is more and more obvious as the increasing amount of accumulated plastic waste. In India, an estimate around 30 to 50 kg of plastic is found in the stomach of dead cows across the country. (http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-05-09/indore/31640634_1_plastic-bags-plastic-waste-rag-pickers) "Plastic, a material that does not disintegrate and may 'live' on on land or sea for up to 1,000 years, is also toxic. The milk or meat consumed from camels, goats or sheep that have eaten plastic, or even fish, is harmful and poisonous for human beings, especially children."(http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/theuae/2010/June/theuae_June250.xml§ion=theuae&col) We should take action before the problem becomes hard to control.

Solids lifting outlets are used by many people to remove the fish solids from the base of fish tanks. They are very easy to build using simple off the shelf parts from the plumbing aisle of most hardware stores. In our systems we have the solids taken out and collected by a solids filter, while others like to run them straight out to the beds. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves the combustion of organic substances contained in waste materials. Incineration and other high-temperature waste treatment systems are described as "thermal treatment". Incineration of waste materials converts the waste into ash, flue gas and heat. The ash is mostly formed by the inorganic constituents of the waste, and may take the form of solid lumps or particulates carried by the flue gas. The flue gases must be cleaned of gaseous and particulate pollutants before they are dispersed into the atmosphere. In some cases, the heat generated by incineration can be used to generate electric power. Incineration with energy recovery is one of several waste-to-energy (WtE) technologies such as gasification, pyrolysis and anaerobic digestion. While incineration and gasification technologies are similar in principle, the energy product from incineration is high-temperature heat whereas combustible gas is often the main energy product from gasification. Incineration and gasification may also be implemented without energy and materials recovery. In several countries, there are still concerns from experts and local communities about the environmental effect of incinerators (see arguments against incineration). In some countries, incinerators built just a few decades ago often did not include a materials separation to remove hazardous, bulky or recyclable materials before combustion. These facilities tended to risk the health of the plant workers and the local environment due to inadequate levels of gas cleaning and combustion process control. Most of these facilities did not generate electricity. Incinerators reduce the solid mass of the original waste by 80–85% and the volume (already compressed somewhat in garbage trucks) by 95–96%, depending on composition and degree of recovery of materials such as metals from the ash for recycling. This means that while incineration does not completely replace landfilling, it significantly reduces the necessary volume for disposal. Garbage trucks often reduce the volume of waste in a built-in compressor before delivery to the incinerator. Alternatively, at landfills, the volume of the uncompressed garbage can be reduced by approximately 70% by using a stationary steel compressor, albeit with a significant energy cost. In many countries, simpler waste compaction is a common practice for compaction at landfills. Incineration has particularly strong benefits for the treatment of certain waste types in niche areas such as clinical wastes and certain hazardous wastes where pathogens and toxins can be destroyed by high temperatures. Examples include chemical multi-product plants with diverse toxic or very toxic wastewater streams, which cannot be routed to a conventional wastewater treatment plant. Waste combustion is particularly popular in countries such as Japan where land is a scarce resource. Denmark and Sweden have been leaders in using the energy generated from incineration for more than a century, in localised combined heat and power facilities supporting district heating schemes. In 2005, waste incineration produced 4.8% of the electricity consumption and 13.7% of the total domestic heat consumption in Denmark. A number of other European countries rely heavily on incineration for handling municipal waste, in particular Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, and France.

Six Democrats in the House of Representatives have introduced articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. And to be honest, their arguments are pretty solid. Will House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi allow her Party to continue with these articles, or will she shut it down? The world is watching, so what happens next will shape the future of both the Republican and Democratic parties, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains. This week, six Democrats in the US House of Representatives introduced articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, which they believe should be heard in front of the full House immediately. They would like for these articles of impeachment to immediately come to the floor for a discussion. Now, just a few weeks ago, Nancy Pelosi said that it's not the time to talk about impeachment. That's not something she's going to entertain right now, and around the same time, I had actually done a segment saying that I think it's too soon for Democrats to go ahead and start with this impeachment talk. I however, unlike Nancy Pelosi, have changed my mind. At this point, from what we've seen from the Trump Administration, and from the case laid out from these Democrats in the House of Representatives, I believe we got a case here. I believe we absolutely have a real, honest to goodness, concrete foundation on which to build an impeachment against Donald Trump. Now, here is what these articles include. It's five articles of impeachment. They allege obstruction of justice—that's pretty obvious there—violations of both the foreign and domestic Emoluments Clause, which is also something that's fairly easy to prove given the diplomats and dignitaries at the Trump Hotel, at Mar-a-Lago, undermining the federal judiciary. Well, yeah, I mean the guy appointed a ghostbuster earlier this week, or nominated a ghostbuster, and undermining the freedom of the press in a violation of the US Constitution, which to verify that all you have to do is go through Donald Trump's Twitter feed. So yeah, I think we've got a case here. I really do think that at this point it is time to go ahead and start pushing for impeachment. Does it have a chance of passing? Absolutely not, because Republicans control the House of Representatives, but keep it alive. Keep it in the House. Don't kill it, because every week we're hearing more and more stories about another Republican who's coming out and saying, "You know what? I'm sick of Donald Trump." Almost every week Donald Trump is coming out and insulting and making a new enemy within the Republican Party in Washington, DC. Let him basically shoot himself in the foot on this issue. He's going to continue making enemies among sitting Republicans, especially if they don't pass tax reform, which it's not looking like they're really going to make it through both chambers, so he'll go back out. He'll insult people. He'll demean them. He'll bully them online, and then you might suddenly have a new ally in your impeachment fight. The biggest hurdle I think at this point is Nancy Pelosi. No Democrat in the House of Representatives or in the Senate who has been paying attention to what's happened this past year should say that it's not the time to entertain articles of impeachment. It's one thing for the press to say it. We don't have a say in the matter. We only give our opinions based on what we see. You're actually someone who could vote in favor of it, so you should always be in favor of it if there are grounds for impeachment, which there are. Nancy Pelosi could single-handedly hold this thing up and screw over the entire Democratic Party ahead of the 2018 midterms. The American public wants this man impeached. They don't want him in office. They want to see the Democrats do something to help remove him, even if it's not successful. It's not going to be a waste of time if you show the American public that this is what you want to do, and this is what you can do. Do not hold these people up, Nancy. They could easily fail in this project, but at least they'll be able to go back to their constituents and say, "You know what? We tried to do something, unlike the rest of the Democratic Party."

It’s far from fantastic India’s framework on discouraging its use is in disarray As a major producer of plastic waste that ends up in the oceans, India is arguably the best place to host World Environment Day. Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan has said the government means business, and the UN theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution”, will not remain an empty slogan. His claim would have inspired greater confidence had India taken its own rules on waste management seriously. Both the Solid Waste Management Rules and the Plastic Waste Management Rules of 2016, which built on previous regulations, mostly remain on paper. State governments have simply not given them the necessary momentum, and the producers of plastic articles that are invariably used just for a few minutes have shown little concern about their negative environmental impact. The Centre’s somewhat liberal estimate shows over 60% of about 25,000 tonnes of plastic waste generated daily is collected. That essentially means a staggering 10,000 tonnes of trash is being released into the environment, a lot of it going into the sea. Also, not every piece of plastic collected by the system is scientifically processed. It is no surprise, therefore, that the Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna river system is on the UN map of 10 rivers worldwide that collectively carry the bulk of the plastic waste into the oceans. The effects are evident: they threaten marine life and the well-being of people, as microplastics are now found even in drinking water. In their response to the crisis, communities and environmentally minded individuals are ahead of governments and municipal authorities. They segregate waste, compost at home, conduct “plastic free” social events and help recover materials that would otherwise just be dumped in the suburbs and wetlands. But, valuable as they are, voluntary efforts cannot achieve what systemic reform can. It is the Centre’s responsibility to ensure that the Environment (Protection) Act, the overarching law that enables anti-pollution rules to be issued, is implemented in letter and spirit. Ideally, regulation should help stop the manufacture of single-use plastic articles such as carry bags and cutlery, and encourage the use of biodegradable materials. There is a challenge here, though. The provisions of the Plastic Waste Management Rules require manufacturers of compostable bags to get a certificate from the Central Pollution Control Board, but this has not stopped counterfeit products from entering the market. Local bodies mandated under rules to ensure segregation, collection and transfer of waste to registered recyclers have spectacularly failed to fulfil their responsibilities. The State Level Monitoring Committees provided for under the rules have not been made accountable. The waste management framework is dysfunctional, and Mr. Vardhan’s assertions on beating plastic pollution alone will not inspire confidence. India and the world face a plastics crisis. Solving it will take more than slogans.

Yangon is the most populated city in Myanmar. Due to its political isolation for the last 25 years, the waste production, treatment and disposal went through a different development compared to the neighboring countries. Now, as the country is opening up to political and economic reforms, Myanmar Government has undertaken a number of initiatives to modernize Solid Waste Management. The project "Environmental protection and sustainable development: building local capacities on solid waste management in Myanmar" aims at contributing to the integration of environment protection principles into policies and programs. Four partners are involved: Cesvi, Yangon Municipality with the PCCD - the Pollution Control and Cleansing Department, the City of Torino and ITHACA. The project, funded by the European Union and co-funded by the Italian Cooperation, also aims at developing recycled products to encourage Yangon citizens to appreciate recycled environment-friendly articles.
