How Does Floor Trading Work on the New York Stock Exchange - Wall Street Stock Market
Floor trading is where traders or stockbrokers meet at a specific venue referred to as a trading floor or pit to buy and sell financial instruments using open outcry method to communicate with each other. More on stock trading: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&tag=doc06-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=3b70391c913a3a0dc8e7add5852ad72a&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=books&keywords=stock%20trading These venues are typically stock exchanges or futures exchanges and transactions are executed by members of such an exchange using specific language or hand signals. During the 1980s and 1990s phone and electronic trading replaced physical floor trading in most exchanges around the world. As of 2007 few exchanges still have floor trading. One example is the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) which still executes a small percentage of its trades on the floor. That means that the traders actually form a group around the post on the floor of the market for the specialist, someone that works for one of the NYSE member firms and handles the stock. Just like in an auction, there are shouts coming from those that want to sell and those that want to buy. The specialist facilitates in the match and centralizing the trades. On January 24, 2007, the NYSE went from being strictly an auction market to a hybrid market that encompassed both the auction method and an electronic trading method that immediately makes the trade electronically. A small group of extremely high-priced stocks isn't on this trading system and is still auctioned on the trading floor. Even though over 82 percent of the trades take place electronically, the action on the floor of the stock exchange still has its place. While electronic trading is faster and provides for anonymity, there's more opportunity to improve the price of a share if it goes to the floor. Investors maintain the right to select the method they want to use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floor_trading On October 19, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped 508 points, a 22.6% loss in a single day, the second-biggest one-day drop the exchange had experienced. Black Monday was followed by Terrible Tuesday, a day in which the Exchange's systems did not perform well and some people had difficulty completing their trades. Subsequently, there was another major drop for the Dow on October 13, 1989; the Mini-Crash of 1989. The crash was apparently caused by a reaction to a news story of a $6.75 billion leveraged buyout deal for UAL Corporation, the parent company of United Airlines, which broke down. When the UAL deal fell through, it helped trigger the collapse of the junk bond market causing the Dow to fall 190.58 points, or 6.91 percent. Similarly, there was a panic in the financial world during the year of 1997; the Asian Financial Crisis. Like the fall of many foreign markets, the Dow suffered a 7.18% drop in value (554.26 points) on October 27, 1997, in what later became known as the 1997 Mini-Crash but from which the DJIA recovered quickly. This was the first time that the "circuit breaker" rule had operated. On January 26, 2000, an altercation during filming of the music video for "Sleep Now in the Fire", which was directed by Michael Moore, caused the doors of the exchange to be closed and the band Rage Against the Machine to be escorted from the site by security[15] after band members attempted to gain entry into the exchange.[16] Trading on the exchange floor, however, continued uninterrupted.[17] In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the NYSE was closed for 4 trading sessions, one of the longest times the NYSE was closed for more than one session; only the third time since March 1933. On May 6, 2010, the Dow Jones Industrial Average posted its largest intraday percentage drop since the October 19, 1987 crash, with a 998 point loss later being called the 2010 Flash Crash (as the drop occurred in minutes before rebounding). The SEC and CFTC published a report on the event, although it did not come to a conclusion as to the cause. The regulators found no evidence that the fall was caused by erroneous ("fat finger") orders.[18] On October 29, 2012, the stock exchange was shut down for 2 days due to Hurricane Sandy.[19] The last time the stock exchange was closed due to weather for a full two days was on March 12 and 13 in 1888.[20] On May 1, 2014 the stock exchange was fined $4.5 million "to settle charges it violated market rules, the Securities and Exchange Commission said Thursday." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Stock_Exchange

Market Profile Trading: How To Trade The Failed Auction Setup | Axia Futures
Watch the full video on a free two week trial at https://www.AxiaFutures.com/ In this market profile trading session, Richard teaches the failed auction strategy, derived from volume profile analysis. With this trade strategy he emphasizes the importance of using shorter time frames for your day trading execution, which can offer you better opportunities to access larger context trade ideas. This example uses the German 10 Year Bund. A poor value area had formed in a prior day, giving us the expectation of potential to trade through the a poor VA to establish a fair price. The trade setup developed first with an open drive up to a VAH coinciding with a ledge and small wedge pattern. The Bund peaked above and failed to hold the auction above the first hour's initial balance. We saw a move back into the initial balance, adding further to the downside expectation. With the larger profile strategies and technical landscape providing context, we needed the shorter time frame to provide a day trading entry point. Had we waited for a 30min TPO close back inside the initial balance to confirm to trade, most of the move would have already been missed. However, the 5min chart gave us the clue with a shooting star candle pattern. Gain access to more than 50 streams like this per month with professional traders. That's a total of over 1500 mins at £96 per month, equaling just £1.92 per stream. Technical Analysis Based Trading Strategy: Poor High Breakout with Failed Auction | Axia Futures
Watch the full video on a free two week trial at https://www.AxiaFutures.com/ In this trader training session Richard shares a trade strategy based on identifying a failed auction early into the day's cash session. After the first hour of trading, the cash session opens and breaks the initial balance (I.B.), fails to hold an extension and returns back within, proving the early initiative wrong. In this example from the FTSE, we see an early move lower reversed, stopping out all those who sold early, as well as a rush of new buyers. More than just the failed extension, the FTSE tested down to VPOC and reversed quickly with the poor high in target at 7109. Richard zooms in with 1 minute chart to show the cash open drive lower towards VPOC, the first clues of the reversal, and walks through some methods for how to execute this strategy using the shorter time frames. What is an Auction? Level 2 and Direct Market Access: The Market's Auction Process ☝
What is an Auction? http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/Spread-bets-charges.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! The Market's Auction Process and How Trading Works. An Introduction to Auction Market Theory. Market auctions are very common when trading stocks where you are trading with Level 2 and Direct Market Access. I like this because this is how markets work. What are Auctions? Auction markets serve the purpose of connecting buyers and sellers as efficiently as possible. On an auction market, the present price for a stock represents the highest price a buyer is willing to pay and the lowest price a seller is willing to accept. i.e. buyers state the highest price they are ready to pay and selling state the lowest price they are willing to accept. A trade happens when the buyer and seller agree on a price. ,

Auction Market Theory Institutional levels
Areas of rejection define unfair prices, however advantageous and provide the best deals. The reason the market spends less time here is because each time these areas are revisited the opportunities are snapped up very quickly. When a good deal is available traders take advantage of this price advertisement quickly. This leads to the market moving away from these areas, and this is what we need to look for as traders for key reversals and great trading opportunities. As a rule, the best place to look for Support and Resistance is at Low Volume\Rejection areas and target Higher volume areas of acceptance for profit taking.

79. The Difference Between Over the Counter (OTC) and Exchange-Based Markets
Practice trading with a free demo account: http://bit.ly/IT-forex-demo3 View full article: http://www.informedtrades.com/20797-difference-between-exchange-traded-over-counter-markets.html When trading stocks or futures you normally do so via a centralized exchange such as the New York Stock Exchange or the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In addition to providing a centralized place where all trades are conducted, exchanges such as these also play the key role of acting as the counterparty to all trades. What this means is that while you may be buying for example 100 shares of Google stock at the same time someone else is selling those shares, you do not buy those shares directly from the seller but instead from the exchange. The fact that the exchange stands on the other side of all trades in exchange traded markets is one of their key advantages as this removes counterparty risk, or the chance that the person who you are trading with will default on their obligations relating to the trade. A second key advantage of exchange traded markets is that as all trades flow through one central place, the price that is quoted for a particular instrument is always the same regardless of the size or sophistication of the person or entity making the trade. This in theory should create a more level playing field which can be an advantage to the smaller and less sophisticated trader. Lastly, because all firms that offer exchange traded products must be members and register with the exchange, there is greater regulatory oversight which can make exchange traded markets a much safer place for individuals to trade. The downside that is often cited about exchange traded markets is cost. As the firms who offer exchange traded products must meet high regulatory requirements to do so, this makes it more costly for them to offer these products, a cost that is inevitably passed along to the end user. Secondly, as all trades in exchange traded products must flow through the exchange this gives these for profit entities immense power when setting things such as exchange fees which can also increase transaction costs for the end user. Unlike the stock market and the futures market which trade on centralized exchanges, the spot forex market and many debt markets trade in what's known as the over the counter market. What this means is that there is no centralized place where trades are made, instead the market is made up of all the participants in the market trading among themselves. The biggest advantage to over the counter markets is that because there is no centralized exchange and little regulation, you have heavy competition between different providers to attract the most traders and trading volume to their firm. This being the case transaction costs are normally lower in over the counter markets when compared to similar products that trade on an exchange. As there is no centralized exchange the firms that make prices in the instrument that is trading over the counter can make whatever price they want, and the quality of execution varies from firm to firm for the same instrument. While this is less of a problem in liquid markets such as FX where there are multiple price reference sources, it can be a problem in less highly traded instruments. While the lack of regulation can be seen as an advantage in the above sense it can also be seen as a disadvantage, as the low barriers to entry and lack of heavy oversight also make it easier for firms offering trading to operate in a dishonest or fraudulent way. Lastly, as there is no centralized exchange the firm that you trade with when you trade in an over the counter market like forex is the counterparty to your trade, so if something happens to that firm you are in danger of loosing not only the trades you have with that firm but also your account balance. It is for these reasons that there is so much focus among forex traders as to which firm to trade with, with special attention being paid to the financial stability of the firm and the execution that they provide. As we proceed through this forex trading course we will continue to gain a better understanding of the structure of the market and traders should be well prepared after going through those lessons to make an informed decision for themselves on this issue.

Tsukiji Fish Market Guide: Tuna Auction and Breakfast Odyssey ★ ONLY IN JAPAN
The world's largest fish market is one of Tokyo's biggest attractions. Tsukiji is set to move to a new location soon so we went for a visit this month. ★ Tuna Auction 04:00 to 05:00 ★ Outer Market 06:00 to 09:00 ☆ Tuna Shop 08:00 ☆ Make Your Own Breakfast 08:30 ★ Inner Market 09:00 to 10:00 (Note: Photography and Video is prohibited inside the inner market until 09:00 every day.) Why is Tsukiji Tokyo's biggest attraction? Maybe it's because it's not a tourist attraction at all. This is a real market where many of Japan's best sushi chefs get their ingredients. It's raw and real. Tsukiji is essentially a city within a city. It has its own way of doing things. There are many rules to visiting Tsukiji. You should wear long pants, boots (if you have them – the floor is wet and full of fish guts), and you should be considerate of people's privacy, especially the sushi chefs shopping. The security guards have no trouble tossing you out at the gate! Photography is prohibited until 09:00 for privacy concerns. They are quite strict about this in the inner market. Breakfast: Should you eat at Sushi Dai? If you like waiting in line to eat the same fish at restaurants all around the area, go for it! There is no quality difference between restaurants in the inner market and those on the outside – all the ingredients come from the same place. We went into a stand in the outer market to see and yes, it was great! No haggling / bargaining in Tsukiji. The price is the price. Our guests for this episode are: ★ Greg Lane, founder and editor / writer for TokyoCheapo.com URL: http://tokyocheapo.com ★ Morita Hirobumi, head instructor for the Tsukiji Sushi Workshop URL: http://tsukiji-market.jp ★ Dru Tang, HinoMaple founder and Tokyo guide URL: http://hinomaple.com ☆ Special thanks to Masanori Numata for helping with the camera and also to Tsubasa Kaieda of www.tsukiji-market.jp for assisting on location. BREAKFAST: Maguro / Tuna shop in the outer market is here: MAP: https://goo.gl/maps/H4Okl Kaisendon tent with "Makase-don bowl" is here: https://goo.gl/maps/izkRx Public eating area in the outer market (vending machines and tables) is here: https://goo.gl/maps/Z0xIJ Uni and Hotate (scallops) were all purchased inside the inner market. You can shop yourself in the inner market after 09:00 or go with a shop owner anytime. Because Morita-san guided us, we were allowed entry. Please contact Tsukiji Sushi Workshop for ingredient tours of the inner market. Places and shops change over time so please note these places in the video may not be there in the future.
