Caucasus's strategic importance

05:07
The US interests in the Caucasus are related to the Azerbaijani and Georgian geographical positions, natural resources, economic influence, energy routes and the Afghanistan Plan. The indispensable strategic position of Azerbaijan makes the country unique. As the country is located between Russia and Iran it serves as a transit state but also a buffer zone for the two. No other country can offer the United States a stronghold that can play a double role. Now consider the economic influence and natural resources of the country and the importance of Azerbaijan increases. Add to this the alternative energy route for Europe that passes through Azerbaijan and Georgia. Then think of the crucial role Azerbaijan plays in the Northern Distribution Network, and the immense value of Azerbaijan and Georgia for the United States is revealed.

Azerbaijan's oil gateway

05:02
Azerbaijan—a nation of Turkic Muslims—has been an independent republic since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Despite a cease-fire, in place since 1994, Azerbaijan has yet to resolve its conflict with Armenia over the Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh enclave (largely populated by Armenians). Azerbaijan has lost almost 20 percent of its territory and must support some 750,000 refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of the conflict. Corruption is ubiquitous and the promise of widespread wealth from Azerbaijan's undeveloped petroleum resources remains largely unfulfilled. Despite its long history of producing oil, Azerbaijan still possesses considerable oil and gas deposits. Today, four off-shore oilfields produce the lion's share of Azerbaijan's output: "Guneshli," which yields 57 percent of Azerbaijan's current oil production, "Chirag," "Azeri," and "Kapaz." During the Soviet period, these fields were left largely untapped because of the expense and difficulty of drilling at great depths under the sea. Since independence, the Azerbaijan International Operating Company, a twelve-company consortium dominated by BP-Amoco, is developing the three largest Azeri oilfields. Apart from the development of the oilfields, which has already begun, Azerbaijan continues its explorations for other deposits in the Caspian Sea. In the part of the Caspian belonging to Azerbaijan, around 24 sites have been singled out as suitable for drilling. The Gateway visits "Oil Rocks", the first ever offshore oil well in the world; a huge feat of engineering, built in 1949

Azerbaijan Unforgettable Country - Tourism Promotion Video Today, we would like to talk about a miraculous country of Azerbaijan with its unlimited natural resources, centuries-old culture, history and ancient people, whose lifestyle presents a unique and harmonious combination of the traditions and ceremonies of different cultures and civilizations. The science and the enlightenment in Azerbaijan have a centuries-old history. The Baku State University was founded in 1919; the institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan play an exceptional role in scientific, educational and cultural development of Azerbaijan. Local scientists are currently studying such important issues as the depths of the Caspian Sea, space exploration and the secrets of human brain. The existing educational system of Azerbaijan is made up of dozens of higher educational institutions and technical schools, thousands of high schools, colleges and lyceums. One of the most important problems which is currently solved by local scientists is environmental protection of the Caspian Sea and different regions of Azerbaijan. Such natural reserves as Gizilagach, Shirvan, Zagatala, Aggol, Girkan and others, were established due to the efforts of Azerbaijani scientists. Through the decades, the local industry was successfully represented by oil producing, petrochemical and oil processing enterprises. The agricultural industry is famous for cotton-growing, viticulture, vegetable-growing and cattle-breeding. If one compares the economy of Azerbaijan with a living body, it becomes evident that oil flows in the veins of Azerbaijan. The oil and gas resources of Azerbaijan have made this place famous in every part of the world from the ancient times. Azerbaijan has always been famous for its sources of eternal fires - the atashgehs. There is a place called Yanardag (blazing mountain) in Absheron and thermal springs in some parts of Nakhichivan, Kelbejar, Masali, Lenkoran, Babadag. In Surakhani, there is an eternal fire place. From the ancient times the fire worshippers from remote places and even the Indian priests were coming to Absheron in search of fire and finding it here. They built their main temples here in Surakhani and Ateshgah. The word Azerbaijan brings its main wealth - oil - before the eyes. Oil is not only the wealth, but the fame as well. People were coming to Azerbaijan from distant places for this specific taste and colored puddle under the ground. Throughout the centuries, camelcades carried waterskins of oil in both eastern and western directions. The Azerbaijani oil is not used exclusively for the electricity production, but also as a valuable medicine for a variety of diseases. There has been an increasing demand for oil throughout the centuries. From the beginning of the 20th century, the continuous industrial development around the world, caused an unprecedented growth of the demand for oil. It was at this time oil turned from an everyday mean into an industrial product. Oil become the most important problem in the world in the 20th century - the century of science and technologies. Oil-producing countries have acquired special oil policies and oil strategies in this connection. Azerbaijan is currently involved into the implementation of huge energy projects. Oil and gas projects are successfully implemented in the Azeri Caspian sector. Azerbaijan is a country, which plays an extremely important role in the Caspian and Caucasian regions, particularly in the development of transport infrastructure in the Caucasus and the implementation of energy projects. Turkey was the first state to recognize Azerbaijan's independence in 1991 and has been a staunch supporter of Azerbaijan in its efforts to consolidate its independence, preserve its territorial integrity and realize its economic potential arising from the rich natural resources of the Caspian Sea. The two countries share an 11-kilometer border, with the Aras River separating Turkey from the Nakhchivan exclave of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan–Pakistan relations are the foreign relations between the Azerbaijan and the Pakistan. Pakistan has an embassy in Baku and Azerbaijan has an embassy in Islamabad. The two nations are considered "strategic partners".[1] Modern relations between the two states were established when the republic of Azerbaijan became independent following the collapse of the USSR – on June 9, 1992.[2] Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan – on December 12, 1991.[3] Trade and cooperation have steadily grown between the two nations, with several summits being held on how to improve trade between the two nations. Azerbaijan, Pakistan "enjoy strategic partnership relations" officials of both countries said in March 2013. Azerbaijan–Georgia relations refer to foreign relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia . Azerbaijan has an embassy in Tbilisi. Georgia has an embassy in Baku. Both countries were former Republics of the Soviet Union and are full members of the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). The two countries are among the founding members of GUAM. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has described the relations as "whoever opposes Azerbaijan or Georgia is an enemy of both our countries. After the dissolution of Soviet Union Azerbaijan and Ukraine gained their independence from the Soviet Union and started a close friendship[1] with establishing diplomatic relations in 1992. The relations of strategic cooperation, political, economical and cultural relations between two countries are at a very high level.[2] In 2001, the two countries founded the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM), along with Georgia and Moldova. Azerbaijan currently plays an important role in both organization and the foreign policy of Ukraine due to its strategic role in the region.[3] Azerbaijan also helped Ukraine to shelter Chernobyl sarcophagus. Ukraine is, after Turkey, one of the main military partners of Azerbaijan. Azeri officers are trained in Ukrainian military academies, and various technical assistance is supplied by Ukraine.[4][citation needed] Ukraine supports Azerbaijan's position in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict against to Armenia.[5][citation needed] After Black January events, some 10,000 people attended a rally in Lviv to protest Moscow's military intervention in Azerbaijan.[6] There are about 32.000 Ukrainians that live in Azerbaijan, and over 45,000 Azerbaijanis live in Ukraine.[7] The grave of Ukrainian Ataman Golovati still is protected by Azerbaijanis and there's also monument in Lankaran dedicated to Cossacks.[8] The two countries support each other in entering international organizations.[9] Diplomatic relations established in 1919 for the first time and Azerbaijan recognizes Holodomor events as a genocide.

AZERBAIJAN: NOT JUST OIL ANYMORE

03:10
If you are a fund manager based in one of the EU member states, you should open your eyes to investment opportunities in Azerbaijan. The energy-rich former Soviet republic on the southwest shore of the Caspian Sea is diversifying its economy. This augurs well both for the country itself and for foreign investors. The “resource curse” is the paradox that countries blessed with natural resources, especially energy resources, often tend to have worse results from economic development and diminished overall growth than countries that have fewer natural resources. Azerbaijan has avoided the resource curse. Its work with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to eliminate poverty in the country has paid off. Azerbaijan was the first Muslim country to give women the vote a century ago, after the First World War, before the Bolshevik Communists took over the region during the Revolution. Given its history of equality between the sexes, Azerbaijan makes special effort for such initiatives to assist women entrepreneurs. Unlike some other former Soviet republics, Azerbaijan has taken concrete steps to eliminate the corruption inherited from the “nomenklatura” (politically connected bureaucrats) of the Soviet and early post-Soviet era. As a result, the country “brand” is very favorable. The results are evident from investment flowing into the domains of culture, the arts, sports and renewable energy. The international agencies Standard and Poors, Moody’s, and Fitch all given the country’s economy is a “Stable” rating with no grades lower than BB+. Azerbaijan’s main trade partners are European countries such as Germany and Italy. as well as Turkey and Russia. Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) in the country increased from $20 billion to $170 billion between 1995 and 2015. A secular approach to politics, social life and culture predominates in this Muslim nation. A modern “E-Visa” regime, where visas can be applied for and received online, makes tourism yet another national asset. Azerbaijan is called the “Land of Fire,” a name originating from the Ateshgah temple where Zoroastrian believers prayed, is one of the many gems offered by the Caspian nation. The country’s long history and culture, as well as its natural beauty and many types of climates, make it a major destination not only for local travelers from Russia, Georgia, and Turkey, but also from European countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany. Baku, the capital, has a strong bid to host the 2025 World Expo. It boasts many world-class luxury hotel chains, and the city’s subway system is state-of-art both in design and in technology. Alpine skiing, museums, galleries, cultural centers and seaside resorts are just a few of the many attractions Azerbaijan offers. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has invested heavily in creating preserving a system of national parks. For countries like Azerbaijan, sustainability is key. International financial institutions have shown appreciation of the country’s political and economic climate and its continual moves towards enhancing the reforms already introduced. For this reason, and not only due to its natural resources, Azerbaijan is becoming a player in the global financial arena. Its profile will only increase in coming years.

Discover Azerbaijan - A Land of Magic Colors... One of the world's most ancient nations - the nation of Azerbaijan - has the right to feel proud for its history, material and cultural monuments, literature, arts and music heritage. Folk arks cover a long period from ancient times to nowadays and including a variety of products from garments to housing goods and decoration. Quite obviously, the style of life, aesthetic tastes, the national image and qualities, are strongly reflected in folk arts. One can easily come across numerous wonderful models of Azerbaijani folk arts in the world's largest museums. The pieces of arts created by the skillful hands of Tabriz, Nakhichevan, Gandja, Gazakh, Guba, Naku, Shaki, Shamakhi and Kharabakh can be found in large museum collections of Victoria and Albert of London, Louvers of Paris, Metropoliten of Vashington and Vienna, Rome, Berlin, Istanbul, Tehran, Cairo museums. The history of folk arts in Azerbaijan has a long and interesting history. Works of art made from metal extracted from Nakhichevan, Migachevir, Gadabay, Gandja and other places are approximately 5000 years old. Crockery, weapons and adornments found here are not historical facts alone, but valuable sources which testify the skills of the master. Carpets, weaved by separate carpet-making schools of Azerbaijan (Guba, Baku, Shirvan, Gandja, Gazakh, Karabakh, Tabriz) in different periods, amaze people till nowadays. Most of them kept in well-known museums of the world. Our national music has been developing along with literature since ancient times. For instance, mugam developed along with with Eastern poesy. Thus, singers, performed mugam, recited ghazals (a kind of poem) by Azerbaijan well-known poets as Nizami, Khagani, Fuzuli, Nasimi. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, IDEA campaign and the Azerbaijani office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The purpose of the project is to increase population of gazelles and relocate them in the areals where they previously lived but disappeared for various reasons. "IDEA is successfully implementing the project. The relocation of gazelles has been very successful. Gazelles are well adapted to their historical habitat", Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mr. Huseyn Bagirov said. He also noted that the project consists of two phases. The first group of gazelles were relocated in the territory of the Absheron district (the traditional habitat of gazelles) as part of the first stage in 2010. Special sensors to monitor their vital functions were put on their necks. In turn, the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Environmental Protection of Georgia Shalva Amerijili expressed special gratitude to Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva for the initiative. "Today, we have begun restoring habitat of gazelles in Georgia", Mr. Amerijili said. This is a big step towards the restoration of biological diversity throughout the region. I hope that in the future we will begin the process of relocating bison to the region", he said.

Zira Island Project (Baku Bay, Azerbaijan)

03:30
Central Asia's first carbon neutral master plan in Baku, Azerbaijan "Zira Island proposes an architectural landscape derived from the natural landscape of Azerbaijan". Caucasus has long been called "The Alps of Central Asia". The natural landscape continue to play an important role in present day Azerbaijan. Shaped by the Caucasus Range towards the north and the coastline of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan is a strategic gateway between east and west full of contrasts and contradictions. The landscape of Azerbaijan includes many snow-capped peaks exceeding 4.000 meters, lush green valleys towards the south and large swathes of arid semi-desert in between. Just a few hours drive away from timeless mountain villages clad in lush orchards sits the Azerbaijani capital of Baku which in Persian means "the wind swept city" whose medieval center is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the Zira Island Master Plan. Caucasus - The Alps of Central Asia. Located within the crescent shaped bay of the capital city Baku, Zira Island includes the Seven Peaks of Azerbaijan which is envisioned to be a sustainable model for urban development, and an iconographic skyline recognizable from the city's coastline. The Seven Peaks is an architectural landscape based upon the country's dramatic natural setting. Each of the Seven Peaks house a residential mixed-use development derived from the geometry of a famous mountain in Azerbaijan. Individually each mountain becomes a principle for mixing private and public functions. Together the mountains form an organic skyline merging with the natural topography of the island. A dense vibrant urban community connected to a series of private resort villages by a central public valley and surrounding beaches. A continuous public trekking path connects the mountains and invites visitors to scale the top of all seven peaks. In addition to the Seven Peaks the Master Plan also includes 300 private villas that take advantage of their setting with panoramic views out over the Caspian Sea. "The Seven Peaks are conceived not only as icons, but engineered as entire eco-systems, a model for future sustainable urban development". The vision of Zira Island is to create an island that is entirely independent of external resources. A self contained island. By combining the best of the traditional Azerbaijani building tradition with the newest technology, Zira Island will provide excellent living spaces for people, with a minimum usage of resources. A showcase to the world combining high-end living with low end resource usage. The Seven Peaks of Azerbaijan proposes an architectural landscape derived from its natural landscape. This new architecture not only recreates the iconic silhouettes of the seven peaks, but more importantly creates an autonomous ecosystem where the flow of air, water, heat and energy are channeled in almost natural ways. A mountain creates biotopes and eco-niches, it channels water and stores heat, it provides viewpoints and valleys, access and shelter. The Seven Peaks are conceived not only as icons, but engineered as entire eco-systems, a model for future sustainable urban development. ZIRA ISLAND SELECTED AS FINALIST FOR CITYSCAPE REAL ESTATE AWARD IN ABU DHABI, UAE.

http://www.facebook.com/budrooo Today, we would like to talk about a miraculous country of Azerbaijan with its unlimited natural resources, centuries-old culture, history and ancient people, whose lifestyle presents a unique and harmonious combination of the traditions and ceremonies of different cultures and civilizations. Azerbaijan is a geographical name. On the one hand this name is linked with the population, which lived in this region for thousand of years before our era, and who were mostly fire-worshippers. Local population considered that fire was their God and so they worshipped the fire. "Azer" means fire. The Turkic name "Azer" was used for this territory for a long time. The word "Azer" consists of two parts - "az" and "er". In Turkic languages, "az" means a good intention and a fate of success. Thus, the word "Azer" means "a brave man", "a brave boy", "the fire keeper". The word "Azerbaijan" originates from the name of an ancient Turkish tribe, who resided in those territories. Azerbaijan is one of the most ancient sites of humankind. The humankind was present here at every stage of their historical development. There were living settlements in Azerbaijan even at the earliest stages of humankind. Azerbaijan made its own contribution into the establishment of the current culture and civilization, progress and dialectics. The time kept a range of ancient archeological and architectural monuments for us. The ancient headstones, manuscripts and models of carpets, preserved to the present times from the ancient ages, can provide much information to those who can and want to read them. If you wish to understand Azerbaijan and to know everything about it, you need to look at this country and its people with a friend's eyes. Azerbaijan is a country of ancient culture. The Oguz tribes which moved here and stayed for ages, have found a deeply rooted culture and in their turn enriched it with Turkic national traditions. The talented and creative powers of our nation are personified in such epic monuments as "Kitabi-Dede Gorgud", "Oguzname" "Keroglu" and many others. This fertile, generous and friendly land was the home of many thinkers, philosophers, scientists, poets, architects, musicians and artists. A legend tells that Zardusht was born in this land. Azerbaijan also enriched the humankind with such geniuses as Nizami Ganjevi, Hagani Shirvani, Bahmanyar, Nasimi, Fizuli, Nasreddin Tusi, Shah Ismail Xatai, Mullah Paneh Vagif, A. Bakikhanov, M.F. Axudov, M.A. Sabir, J.Mamedguluzade, Huseyn Javid, J.Jabarli, Samed Vurgun, Aliaga Vahid, Rasul Rza. The country of Azerbaijan was immortalized by such talented painters as Sattar Bahlulzade, Tahir Salahov, Togrul Narimanbeyov, Mikayil Abdullayev and many others. Our national music - mugam - inspired such outstanding composers as Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Muslim Magomayev, Gara Garayev, Fikret Amirov, Niyazi, Arif Melikov and others to create their masterpieces, which are still known today throughout the world. It also gave the inspiration to such wonderful vocalists as Bulbul and Rashid Behbudov. It seems that the famous Azerbaijan carpets are the incarnation of all colors of nature and of all signs of history. Today, these carpets magically pass the borders of time and space and travel from Azerbaijan to foreign countries far away.

Icherisheher - Baku - Azerbaijan

00:53
Understanding the development of medieval Icherisheher and urban life in Baku is key to understanding the current economic, material and moral culture of present day Azerbaijan. Historical and archeological materials show that Baku, like many other Azerbaijani cities, emerged as a result of the growth of an economically advanced and densely populated ancient settlement. Resources such as oil and salt were a key factor for the growth of Baku from a small settlement into a thriving city. In ancient times, Baku was one of the most densely populated cities not only in the Southern Caucasus but also in the Middle East. The favorable climate, natural and geographical conditions, abundance of natural resources, and its location along world trade routes facilitated the economic development of Baku. The mild climate, fertile soil, and rich water resources were basic factors for the economic development that started from the beginning of the century. In the beginning of the Greco-Roman era, geographer Claudius Ptolemy (70-147AD) mentioned Baku as Baruka or Gaytara among 28 towns in the territory of Albania in his work “Geography.” http://www.icherisheher.gov.az/

Azerbaijan: Luxury spa lets its customers take a bath in crude oil

01:40
Oil is one of the most important and precious natural resources on the planet, but would you ever take a bath in it? In the energy-rich nation of Azerbaijan, you now can. Situated in the capital Baku, the Naftalan Health Centre offers its customers a chance to dip in the black gold. Seb, an Australian tourist to the region who was visiting the facility, described the experience: "It's pretty OK, it's about the same temperature as a normal bath, it's a bit like chocolate I suppose in texture, reminds me of those chocolate fountains at the malls. Pretty warm, pretty painless, does not really smell much," he said. Bathing in Naftalan oil for medicinal purposes is a practice that stretches as far back as the 6th century. But there has been criticism as well that the oil contains naphthalene hydrocarbons, a possible carcinogen. The spa's doctor Hashim Hashimov said that the treatment could cure up to 70 ailments. "Naftalan kills everything, viruses, bacteria and fungi. It's consistence is unique and pure, it does not contain any dirt," he said. For more videos, head over to http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/tv

As of 2016, in a joint communique, Pakistan and Turkey plan to strengthen their close ties into a "strategic partnership".[1][2] Relations date back generations before the establishment of the two states, more precisely during the Turkish War of Independence when the Muslims of the northwestern British Raj sent financial aid to the declining Ottoman Empire, which was followed by the formation of the Turkish Republic and the Independence of Pakistan. As a result, Pakistan and Pakistanis have enjoyed a positive perception in Turkey and amongst Turks for many decades. Pakistan and Turkey enjoy close cultural, historical and military relations which are now expanding into deepening economic relations as both countries seek to develop their economies. Turkey supports Pakistan's position of holding a plebiscite under the UN to decide if Kashmir wants to join Pakistan, a position which Turkish President Erdogan reaffirmed in a joint address to the Pakistani parliament and which was attended by Pakistan's military high command.[3][4] Turkey supports Pakistan's membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.[5] Analysts have also observed that Turkey and Pakistan enjoy close relations during both democratic and military regimes, reflecting the depth of the relations between the two nations.[6] Turkey-Azerbaijan relations Map indicating locations of Turkey and Azerbaijan Turkey Azerbaijan Azerbaijan–Turkey relations have always been strong with the two often being described as "one nation with two states" by the ex-president of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev[1] due to both being Turkic countries. South Korean–Turkish relations are foreign relations between South Korea and Turkey. Turkey has an embassy in Seoul, while South Korea has an embassy in Ankara and a consulate-general in Istanbul. Both countries are members of G20. Turkey–Turkmenistan relations are foreign relations between Turkey and Turkmenistan. Turkey was the first country in the world to recognize the independence of Turkmenistan during the period of dissolution of the Soviet Union and first country that opened embassy in the newly independent country.[1] Turkmenistan has an embassy in Ankara and a consulate general in Istanbul.[2] Both countries are full members of the Economic Cooperation Organization, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, International Organization of Turkic Culture and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The two countries share close cultural connections. Both have a majority Sunni Muslim population, and both are predominantly inhabited by Turkic people; both the Turkish and Turkmen languages belong to the Oghuz group of Turkic languages. Turkey is one of the 47 countries in the world that holders of a Turkmen passport can visit without visa. Kazakh–Turkish relations are foreign relations between Kazakhstan and Turkey. Turkey recognized Kazakhstan on 16 December 1991, being the first state to recognize the independence of Kazakhstan, when Kazakhstan declared its independence.[1] Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 2 March 1992.[1] These relations have developed positively on the international stage as well as in commerce and strategic affairs.[2] Kazakhstan has an embassy in Ankara and a consulate general in Istanbul. Turkey has an embassy in Almaty and a branch office in Astana. Turkish–Ukrainian relations are foreign relations between Turkey and Ukraine. Turkey and Ukraine have a long chronology of historical, geographic, and cultural contact. Diplomatic relations between both countries were established in early 1990s when Turkey became one of the first states in the world to announce officially about recognition of sovereign Ukraine. Turkey has an embassy in Kiev and a consulate general in Odessa.

Azerbaijan, Gobustan Mud Volcanos - To the Caspian Sea ep 23-Travel vlog calatorii tourism video

Azerbaijan styles itself as the land of fire. It’s a resource rich country, where oil literally seeps out of the ground and occasionally just doesn’t stop burning. A lesser known side effect of the huge stores of natural resources, has been the strange occurrence of rare mud volcanoes. I was visiting Gobustan National Park not far from the Azerbaijani capital of Baku, and a place where the mud volcanoes can be walked right up to and where the brave can even bathe in them. Mud Volcano in Azerbaijan

03:27
http://budrooo.com https://www.facebook.com/budrooo Azerbaijan keeps the first place in the world for the number of mud volcanoes. There are 800 mud volcanoes on the Earth and 400 of them are in the Southern Caspian region. About 300 mud volcanoes are to be found in Azerbaijan – at the shore, in the sea and on islands. There are all types of mud volcanoes – both active and dormant. Volcanoes can be high and low, gryphons and buried ones, submarine and subterranean. Each of them has its own character and chemical composition. As the most of remarkable sites of Azerbaijan the 23 of the most interesting volcanoes got the status of a national park and are protected by the state. Mud volcanoes are definite accompaniments of oil and gas fields confirming the availability of the great natural resources in Azerbaijan. The mud volcanoes can supply raw materials for chemical and building industries as well as for pharmacology. The mud and clay of these volcanoes alongside with the volcanic waters can treat many diseases. These substances consist of many chemical elements. The mud volcanoes are a natural lab and storehouse for the scientists. The mud volcanoes are also interesting for the tourists. The strange landscape reminds the youth of our planet or the views of the Moon but unlike the old Moon’s dead surface the mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan are still alive. From Baku the most accessible group of active mud volcanoes is right beside the Baku-Shamakha road – within five minutes’ walk or a one-minute ride off the main road. The most famous is formally called Buraniz Julgya located at km 41. In this area one can see another group of less impressive cones situated near the village of Pirekeshkyul some 500 m south of the main road, turning 400m east of km 38. The most interesting and tourist-visited group of active volcanoes located along the Baku-Alat road, about 10 km south of Gobustan as well as volcanoes that one can see not far from Dashgil area.

Freedom Lecture: Emin Milli (Azerbaijan) - Vrijheidslezing #10

02:09:04
Live stream recording - 2015-05-21 - This year Azerbaijan will host the first ever European Games. While it’s an unfamiliar country for many, according to its president Ilham Aliyev its riches include “breathtaking architectural monuments, cultuur and natural resources” and it’s a country that “guarantees all fundamental freedoms to its inhabitants”. On the cultural and natural richness of the country it’s easy to agree on. However the so called guarantee for fundamental freedoms is questionable. Last year has been one of the most tragic years for Azerbaijan, in light of the preservation of human rights, since its independence in 1991. Anyone who criticizes the government risks being put behind bars. With this in mind, the Azerbaijani journalist and dissident Emin Milli will hold the Freedom Lecture on the situation in his country on the 21st of May. About Emin Milli Emin Milli is a journalist and one of the most well-known critical voices from Azerbaijan’s fast growing oppositional movement. Milli is mostly known as the ‘donkey-blogger’ as he participated in a satirical clip in which a blogger, dressed as a donkey (which refers to the import of high priced donkeys by the Azerbaijani government), indirectly criticizes the government. Shortly after the clip was published online, Emin Milli was arrested under the guise of ‘Hooliganism’ and was sentenced to two years in jail. Partly due to international pressure and President Obama’s insistence, he was released in November 2010, after having spent 17 months in a cell. Since his release, Milli has continued his fight for freedom in Azerbaijan from outside his home country, continuing to openly critique the government. In 2013 he founded Meydan tv, an independent and alternative news channel. On May 22nd, Emin Milli will give The Freedom Lecture in the Humanity House, the Hague. On the Freedom Lecture For the third year in a row De Balie (Amsterdam) and Amnesty International present The Freedom Lecture-series. Wedged between Turkey to the east, Iran to the south and Russia to the north, Azerbaijan is a country that punches above its weight. Gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, the country is an oil and gas giant. Under the leadership of Ilham Aliyev and his father Heydar Aliyev earlier, Azerbaijan has used diplomacy and natural resources to become one of the wealthiest post-Soviet states. The Caucasian country is currently constructing gas pipelines that will connect Russia to Europe. Azerbaijan excels in using its geographic position to befriend others in a challenging region. Tian Wei goes one-on-one with Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The government of Azerbaijan has aimed to increase environmental protection and ensure rational utilization of natural resources, and has introduced a number of important laws, legal documents and state programs in order to improve the ecological situation in the country. However, these precautionary laws have not been as effective as they were meant to be. Transparency has been a consistent issue in Azerbaijan, as NGO's who are given legal authority to collect data from the oil refineries are often blocked or dismissed, and their information is gathered unofficially. Domestic oil producers have often evaded the regulations, and have not prevented oil leaks into the Caspian Sea. In the next 30 years, Azerbaijan will produce more oil than it produced during the last century, and currently there is little coordination or environmental precaution in the oil drilling operations. There is also a lack of communication with neighboring countries bordering the Caspian Sea.

Travel to Azerbaijan www.kosmostrip.net BAKU – PEARL ON THE CASPIAN The history of the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, goes back to the high antiquity, although the exact date of its foundation is still unknown. Absheron Peninsula territory, on which the city is located, has a favorable geographical position, convenient bay, warm, dry climate, fertile soil, natural resources, and therefore the establishment of ancient settlements here was rather consistent. Baku, its oil, "burning earth", has been known far beyond its borders since ancient times. In the written sources of the Middle Ages, related to Baku, it is consistently mentioned about the “eternal lights”, located in its vicinity. Byzantine Paniysky Prisk wrote about them one of the first at the beginning of the V century, describing the city of the Caucasian Albania, he referred to the area where "flame rises from an underwater rock." The Arab historian al-Balazuri also reported in 754 about oil and Shirvan salt. Caravans arrived here from all over the Middle East for oil. Slavic, Khazar, Byzantine, Chinese, Iraqi, Syrian, Kenyan, Venetian, Iranian and Indian merchants came to Baku. Baku, located at the crossroads of the merchant routes, has always been in the center of attention of the foreign invaders, fighting for power in the region. City excursion begins with a visit to Upland Park, which is located on a hill in the western city part. This is the best place to view the city and the Baku Bay. Kill Dim BLITZ (NEW) #Armenian–Azerbaijani War

00:43
Armenian–azerbaijani War Guerra Armeno-azera Armena-azera milito Армяно-азербайджанская война Հայ-ադրբեջանական պատերազմ Armenia’s strategic position, rich natural resources, military-economic might, high level of cultural achievements greatly contributed to the development of Armenian civilizational values, owing to more than five millennia-old ethno-spiritual, cultural and social-political roots of the Armenian statehood in the Armenian Highland, attested to by the archaeological and architectural monuments, and town building, cuneiform, ancient and medieval written and other historic sources. Armenia is the cradle of the Armenian nation and world civilization, according to the historical archaeological and ethno-cultural investigations. Continuing the Ottoman, Young Turk and Kemalist genocidal policy Turkish state-sponsored “research centres” falsify world history and particularly the history and the historical geography of Armenia. Falsification of the history and historical geography of Armenia, especially, distortion of the toponymy of Western Armenia and Cilician Armenia are used for denial of the Armenian Genocide by the Turkish government. But precisely because of irrefutable facts of the history of Armenia and the spiritual power of the Armenian historical heritage, Turkish and Azerbaijani efforts to falsify the history of Armenia and deny the Armenian Genocide are doomed to failure. Thanks to the heroic struggle of the Armenian freedom fighters in the Artsakh Liberation war (1991-1994), aggressive Azerbaijan was defeated and the native Armenian population and Armenian historic monuments were protected in the Artsakh liberated lands. The guarantors of the protection of the Armenian civilizational heritage are the Republic of Armenia and the Artsakh Republic.
