As part of Kindergarten's inquiry into characters, music and themes we performed and wrote music that fit with the poetic description of 'The Gruffalo' by Julia Donaldson. I used the book, film and my own little body-percussion rhythms to fit the rhyme of the text - as well as solfege for musical sections! Like the snake La_ mi fa mi_ http://www.gruffalo.com/

By mid-century there will likely be 9 billion people on the planet, consuming ever more resources and leading ever more technologically complex lives. What will our cities be like? How will we eat in the future of Earth? Will global warming trigger catastrophic changes, or will we be able to engineer our way out of the world climate crisis? In the future world demographic changes will certainly be dramatic. In Theology, metanoia is used to refer to the change of mind which is brought about in repentance. The prefix "meta-" carries with it other variants that are consistent with the Eastern Greek philosophical mindset, "Meta-" is additionally used to imply "beyond" and "outside of." E.g., metamorphosis as a beyond-change; and, metaphysics as outside the limits of physics. The Greek term for repentance, metanoia, denotes a change of mind, a reorientation, a fundamental transformation of outlook, of an individual's vision of the world and of her/himself, and a new way of loving others and the Universe. In the words of a second-century text, The Shepherd of Hermas, it implies "great understanding," discernment. In Carl Jung's psychology, metanoia indicates a spontaneous attempt of the psyche to heal itself of unbearable conflict by melting down and then being reborn in a more adaptive form. LBCC - Information Competency for Film Students Special Thanks to Librarians Colin, Gail and Judith at LBCC Now, let’s take a look at Long Beach City College’s LAC campus library. Let’s just see what books about film we can find at this location. From looking at the catalogue, we search with ‘film’ as the subject and we limit the search to the library at the LAC location, and in the format of printed books. And, we can see we have 350 results. We can see the first record, a book called ‘Light and Film’ has the call letters starting with TR. The Library of Congress classifies books with call letters starting with TR to be in the subject of Photography. The second and third records, books called ‘American Silent Film’ and ‘Film Encyclopedia’ have the call numbers PN1993, which, respectively, under the Library of Congress classification system, is the subject ‘motion pictures’. So, let’s go to the PN stacks, here at the library. After I found the Film Encyclopedia, I stumbled upon a book on Star Trek costumes, sets and prop designs in the ‘motion pictures’ section PN1993. Feel free to browse around, especially, if you’re stumped and need to find research topics. This, here, is the ‘Light and Film’ book in the Photography section in TR. Cinematography and Screenwriting are also relevant subjects to look up. Now, let’s say we’re taking a Film class that required thinking critically about a certain film, its influences, or maybe how it affected people at the time of its release. Now, let’s consider Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Coppola was highly inspired by Murnau’s Nosferatu, which many critics today claim to be a classic and highly influential film. That may be the case upon looking back, but maybe, I want to research how people reacted to Nosferatu in the 1920’s. Well, let’s gather some basic knowledge about Nosferatu from imdb.com ( and we can see that it was released in 1922. The New York Times was definitely one of the most popular periodicals in the world, so I’m feeling confident that we’ll find a review of Nosferatu. But, it looks like they don’t have anything for 1922. I looked at Wikipedia and read that it was released in America, seven years later, in 1929. Now, I found the article, released June 4th, 1929 and was surprised to see that it was a pretty negative review about the film, where the author said, the backgrounds look like ‘cardboard cutouts’, not scary, and puts you to sleep. Now, was this merely just the opinion of one person? Or was there something about the culture of that era of when this film was released that could possibly lead people to think this way? If we wanted to do some research on that era, we can find that old review and look at the surrounding articles and advertisements and try to get an idea of what was going on at that time, therefore, considering the movie in context of its time. Well, the article, as presented online, only says the date, but without reading the whole newspaper, we can find out the page and section by looking it up in the New York Times Index. The New York Times Index is a book that helps us find an article and it is organized by date and subject. Let’s go to the catalog and type ‘b8:reference’ in the keyword so the search engine will pull up results found in the reference section. The title will be ‘The New York Times Index’. Even though it’s a book, we still have to select the format ‘Journal/Magazine’. As we can see from the record, we can find this index in the LAC Reference Collection under the call number AI, which is for Indexes. We pull out the New York Times Index book of the correct Year and Month. Then we search by subject and look under ‘Motion Pictures’ for Nosferatu. We find ‘Motion Pictures’ but, instead, we are redirected to look under, ‘Moving Pictures’. We find the entry for Nosferatu and we can confirm the article was in June 4, 1929 and now we also discovered that we can find it on page 29, section 3. Since it takes up a lot of room in the library to store newspapers since 1929, we have microfilms that compact and consolidate sets of newspapers and is in a format that makes the content easier to preserve. Just open the drawer, find the correct film roll and and follow the instructions on how to load the roll and operate the machine. So, we found our review of Nosferatu and we can see what other movies came out at that time, current events and advertisements; all things that show what was culturally popular in that era. And from further research, in this style on whatever films we may study, we now know how to pull up original resources to help us think and write critically about films.

Watch this entire presentation http://welchwrite.com/rwelch/2017/09/08/giving-voice-to-silent-films-and-the-far-from-silent-women-who-wrote-them-with-dr-rosanne-welch-video-1744/ A clip from a recording of my presentation at this year's University Film and Video Association (UFVA) 2017 conference. (http://www.ufva.org/) "Giving Voice to Silent Films and the Far From Silent Women Who Wrote Them". ----------- Transcript: That's NOT all folks. In my classes I make them read books -- so they review books that are about writing and there are a ton of them, but I make these pretty little pictures because they're fun. I love Doctor Who. I've done a lot of stuff on Doctor Who. This is a great book. Basically, a journalist (Benjamin Cook) connected with Russell T Davies who was producing the first five years of the remake -- first seven years -- and he said, "Can I email you anytime you have -- and just say 'What are you thinking about? and you just give me a quick answer'" So it's a series of email, which makes it easy for kids to read even though it's a very thick book and he will say things like "Well, today I had the idea, what if water was like acid and it killed people?"and about 5 pages later -- 'I wonder if it's the water on another planet, like Mars?"and 2 chapters later he has written an entire script called 'The Waters of Mars" and there's a copy of the script and you can see the genesis from the idea all the way through and then he discusses production, because he was the executive producer. He'll talk about "I got this guest star. Oh no, she pulled out. I need to rewrite the character to suit this person." It gives you a real understanding of what the job is to be a writer in television. Obviously, John Gregory Dunne. All those guys, but I think they should always read one book and find many of them tell me they haven't read a book in a long time and/or this is the longest book I've ever read, but they generally tend to like them if you force them to do it. I think that is a good assignment and I also make them write a paper on one famous screenwriter from any of the eras I talk about. I don't just do silents. I start with them but of course, I move through the modern day so they pick someone and again I put up the encyclopedia because I think all university libraries should have a copy of it. It's put out by a friend of mine. So I think that's a really cool thing. It always brings me back to, it's all about remembering the ladies. We need to teach as much of that as possible and get past all the stuff that hasn't been settled years ago and that's why Ido what I do. ------------ I was pleased to be asked to participate in a panel designed by former student (and current kick-ass professor) Warren Lewis. The panel included two other former students from the MFA in Screenwriting program at CSUF: David Morgassen and Lucas Cuny. For the panel’s theme -- “What Else Do We Teach When We Teach Screenwriting: Context And Controversy: Strategies For Teaching Film And Television History And Current Events To Screenwriters" -- I chose to present on: "Giving Voice to Silent Films and the Far From Silent Women Who Wrote Them". LBCC - Library 1 - Information Competency Special Thanks to Librarians Colin, Gail and Judith at LBCC Filmmaking is an audiovisual discipline, so whether we are analyzing a film or making our own, we will need learning materials that are not only from a textbook but are also visual and auditory. Some people will say that if we want to be a filmmaker, we don’t need to go to film school and we can learn everything from the internet and hands-on experience. Communities and websites like NoFilmSchool.com can support this idea and we can even access materials from previous movies. Take, for instance, like this screenplay of Hannibal, from a free databases like imsdb. However, because websites like these are free, the content is usually contributed by a volunteer, Resources from academic institutions is a way for students gain trusted information. And, even though there is probably great advice from other filmmakers on the internet that is free, when we are a student using resources paid by our school, we can be assured that those materials were from legitimate publishers and the authors not only have the experience in the field, but their ideas have been organized, thorough, or refuted by editors through the rigorous publishing process. Whether or not we go to film school, we can still take film classes at a local community college and still be a film student. So, by using these reputable resources from publishers, film associations and organizations, we are acting as a film student who is information-competent. [insert pics of Speilberg] In this video, we’ll, briefly, talk about how to find resources for film students at LBCC, partnered institutions like CSULB, resources in the local community: the Long Beach Public Library and from Film Associations like the Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts and Sciences.

#iitutor #English #RabbitProofFence https://www.iitutor.com https://blog.gradeproof.com/need-more-inspiration-on-how-to-improve-your-writing/ You can also watch relevant video lessons: Part 2 Rabbit Proof Fence Film Review https://youtu.be/0mwbL8ZzyTk Part 3 Rabbit Proof Fence Film Techniques https://youtu.be/Nevxl-QMe0g This lesson talks about stolen generation in HSC English Online. Set in Western Australia during the 1930s, the film begins in the remote town of Jigalong where three children, sisters Molly 14, and Daisy ,8, who live with their mother and grandmother, and Gracie,10-12, their cousin. The town lies along the northern part of Australia's rabbit-proof fence, which runs for several thousand miles. Thousands of miles away, the "protector" of Western Australian Aborigines, A.O. Neville, signs an order to relocate the three girls to his re-education camp. The children are referred to by Neville as "half-castes", having one white and one black parent. Neville's reasoning is that the Aboriginal peoples of Australia are a danger to themselves and must be bred out of existence. The children are forcibly taken from Jigalong and taken to the camp at Moore River to the south. Half-castes that are of a certain age live at the camps and are taught to become servants for the whites living in Australia. Molly, Gracie, and Daisy decide to walk back home to Jigalong and escape the camp. An Aboriginal tracker, Moodoo, is called in to find them. However, the girls are well versed in disguising their tracks. They evade Moodoo several times, receiving aid from strangers in the harsh Australian country they travel. They eventually find the rabbit-proof fence, knowing that they can follow it north to Jigalong. Neville soon figures out their motive and sends Moodoo and a local constable, Riggs, after them. However, though he is an experienced tracker, Moodoo is unable to find them. Neville spreads word that Gracie's mother is waiting for her in the town of Wiluna who finds its way to a man who "helps" the girls who then tells Gracie about her mother and that they can get to Wiluna by train, causing her to later break off from the group and attempting to go to Wiluna by train. Molly and Daisy soon walk after her, finding her at a train depot. They are not reunited however, as Riggs appears and Gracie is re-captured. Knowing they are helpless to aide her, Molly and Daisy continue on. After several more weeks of following the fence, eluding their trackers and trekking through a vast expanse of open desert, the two sisters arrive close to Jigalong, it being implied that their mother and grandmother guided them there through ritual chanting. Though Riggs is waiting there, the town's women have been chanting heavily in the brush, a ritual that Riggs seems frightened of. As he moves through the brush looking for the girls, he encounters two of the women, Molly's and Daisy's mother and grandmother, one, their mother, brandishing a sharpened stick. Riggs is frightened away and Molly and Daisy find their family. The epilogue of the film shows recent footage of Molly and Daisy. Molly explains that Gracie died by then; that she had never got to go back to Jigalong. Molly also states that she had her own two daughters who were taken from her and how she successfully escaped with one, Annabelle, in much the same manner as in her childhood; she walked the length of the fence back home. But Annabelle, when she was 3 years old, was taken away, much like her mother. Molly never saw her again. In closing, Molly says that she and Daisy "...Will never go back to Moore River. Never." which was caused by stolen generation. EJH5R1 http://youtu.be/ICxQoetmYNc

LBCC Information Competency for Film Students Special Thanks to Librarians Colin, Gail and Judith at LBCC Now, what if we wanted to learn more about the technical aspects of filmmaking, like seeing and reading about how equipment is used? A fellow colleague recommended that I check out an issue of American Cinematographer. However, LBCC, at this moment does not carry it. Well, upon searching for it in the online catalog, the nearby University, CSULB, Cal State Long Beach, carries selected issues. Not only is CSULB’s library accessible to its current students, alumni and other members of the community, they also allow selected local community colleges, LBCC being included, to have access, as well. In order to get a library card from CSULB, we go to the circulation desk, and provide our Name, Address, Phone Number, Email Address, LBCC College Services card, a Driver’s License or ID Card, and Social Security Number. After they input our information in their system, we’ll be ready to check out materials and have access to their databases. Now, let’s look for American Cinematographer, which will be on the Lower Level. So, I grabbed an issue that shows the behind-the-scenes photos of The Force Awakens. And, just like it was important to look at advertisements in an old newspaper when we were researching Nosferatu, the advertisements shown in this magazine can give us an idea of what types of filming technology could have been popular around this time. CSULB also carries magazines on screenwriting, too. And, of course, CSULB also has their own section of film books in their stacks with the call number PN1993, like, where I found this older book on making 16mm films. To find ‘Motion Picture Scripts’ go to the PN1997 stacks and to find ‘Television Scripts’ go to the PN 1992 stacks. Also, CSULB has what is called, ‘Special Collections’ on the 3rd floor. Film students might probably be interested in the MGM Music Collection, which includes “several hundred musical scores, including some original film scores” and the William Yates Collection, which “consists of television scripts, production manuals” from various shows and Walt Disney productions.

SHAZAM! - Only in theaters April 5. See it early with Fandango on March 23. Get tickets: http://Fandango.com/Shazamearlyaccess ----- http://ShazamMovie.com https://www.facebook.com/ShazamMovie/ https://twitter.com/ShazamMovie/ https://www.instagram.com/ShazamMovie/ ---- David F. Sandberg (“Annabelle: Creation”) directs New Line Cinema’s “Shazam!,” the origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV’s “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Asher Angel (TV’s “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Peter Safran (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer. We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong). “Shazam!” also stars Jack Dylan Grazer (“IT”) as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, part of the foster family that includes Mary, played by Grace Fulton (“Annabelle: Creation”); Darla, played by Faithe Herman (TV’s “This is Us”); Eugene, played by Ian Chen (TV’s “Fresh Off the Boat”); and Pedro, played by Jovan Armand (TV’s “Hawaii Five-O”). Cooper Andrews (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and Marta Milans (TV’s “Killer Women”) play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond”) as the Wizard. Firmly set in the DC universe but with his own distinctly fun, family-centric tone, the screenplay is by Henry Gayden, story by Gayden and Darren Lemke. Shazam was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. Christopher Godsick, Jeffrey Chernov, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia serve as executive producers. Tell me, which do you prefer? Reading an email from a colleague in English or talking on the phone with them? Relaxing in the evening with a book in English or a film without subtitles? Reading a blog post or listening to a podcast? If you learned English by reading and writing, rather than speaking or listening, I can understand that you feel more comfortable reading. And if you’re a fan of literature, it makes sense that you prefer reading to listening. But if you want to better understand spoken English. So you can chat to native speakers or watch films or TV series more easily, you’ll need to put down that book and start listening. The good news is, you don’t need to choose between reading and listening. You can combine your love of literature with your goal to better understand spoken English. In today’s episode, you’ll discover 4 ways to read and listen at the same time. You can also download a free sample of a resource I’m working on for reading fans. A blogcast (more on that in the episode) of last week’s blog post. https://www.leo-listening.com/listening-resources-literature-lovers/ -Video Upload powered by https://www.TunesToTube.com

Former Army intelligence officer Dan Reilly, now an international hotel executive with high level access to the CIA, makes it his mission to track him down. He begins a jet-setting search for answers as the clock ticks down to a climactic event that threatens NATO and the very security of member nations. Reilly begins mining old contacts and resources in an effort to delve deeper into the motive behind these attacks, and fast. Through his connections he learns that the Tokyo bomber is not acting alone. But the organization behind the perpetrator is not who they expect. Facilitated by the official government from a fearsome global superpower, the implications and reasons for these attacks are well beyond anything Reilly or his sources in the CIA and State Department could have imagined, and point not to random acts of terror, but calculated acts of war. When the virus hit, The Division, a unit of civilian sleeper agents, was activated as the last line of defense. Since then, Division agents have been fighting relentlessly to save what remains. For The Division, the stakes are higher than ever. Washington, D.C. – the most heavily protected city on earth – is at risk, leaving the entire nation on the brink of collapse. If Washington, D.C., is lost, then the nation falls. As a Division agent who has been in the field for seven months, you and your team are the last hope to stop the fall of society after the pandemic collapse. Developed by Ubisoft Massive and the same teams that brought you Tom Clancy’s The Division®, Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2 is an online open world, action shooter RPG experience set in a collapsing and fractured Washington, D.C. This rich new setting combines a wide variety of beautiful, iconic, and realistic environments where the player will experience the series’ trademark for authenticity in world building, rich RPG systems, and fast-paced action like never before. Play solo or co-op with a team of up to four players to complete a wide range of activities, from the main campaign and adversarial PvP matches to the Dark Zone – where anything can happen. A TRANSFORMED WASHINGTON, D.C. In the wake of the virus, storms, flooding, and subsequent chaos have radically transformed Washington, D.C. Explore a living open world full of diverse environments, from flooded urban areas to historic sites and landmarks, during one of the hottest summers in history. The streets have been overrun with enemy factions, each with its own agenda and each vying for control of DC. It will be up to you to liberate the city and protect what remains of society. BEST-IN-CLASS ENDGAME EXPERIENCE Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 was built with an “endgame-first” mentality, ensuring players always have access to fresh, unique, and diverse activities long after completing the main campaign. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2’s endgame will introduce brand new challenges and progression systems, unique twists and surprises, and for the first time, raids. Players will also be able to access a wealth of post-launch content, including a full year of free additional story-driven missions, map expansions, and gameplay modes. REVAMPED PLAYER PROGRESSION AND NEW SPECIALIZATIONS After completing the main campaign, gain access to new specializations such as demolitionist, sharpshooter, and survivalist. Each specialization will open up an entire new progression system with new skills, mods, and unique talents to acquire and maximize your agent efficiency in your chosen role. DYNAMIC LIVING WORLD Civilians and enemy factions are constantly striving to survive, vying for necessities such as food, medicine, and ammunition. As the factions face off against each other in a ravaged DC, they will fight to seize control of resources and locations – and for their very survival. The various needs and motivations from each faction will collide, triggering different encounters between enemy and friendly factions, civilians, and ultimately you as an Agent, creating a dynamic living world full of surprises. UNITE THE CIVILIANS Civilians have banded together in settlements to rebuild their society, but their very existence is threatened. Work closely with them to keep them safe and in turn, they will come to your aid and provide supplies and assistance to build up your base of operations, giving a deeper meaning to the people and the world around you. A RENEWED DARK ZONE EXPERIENCE The Dark Zone is an untamed area of the map with some of the best loot in the game. The Dark Zone is also the most dangerous area in the game, where fear, betrayal, and tension are high, as any other agent can turn against you and steal your hard-earned loot. In Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, this playground was designed to provide a fair and exciting experience to all players, regardless of their level of progression. Robert Rodriguez Interview Red 11 and The Robert Rodriguez Film School A little over twenty-five years ago, Robert Rodriguez burst on the scene with his almost no-budget debut film, El Mariachi. Made for only $7,000, Rodriguez used every shortcut he could think of to make his movie, including raising some of the money by signing up for medical experiments. He actually documented the experience in his widely read book, Rebel Without a Crew, which showed everyone how you could make a movie for almost no money. When the twenty-fifth anniversary of the film hit, Rodriguez decided to make another $7,000 film using the notes he wrote while in the Medical Research Facility, and documenting the process on video for the digital age. The result were two films that premiered a few days ago at SXSW: Red 11 (the small-budget movie) and The Robert Rodriguez Film School (which is a six episode docuseries, running 135 minutes, exploring how they did it). If you’re someone who has always wanted to make a movie with no money, Rodriguez wants to show you how to hack the system. Shortly before the world premieres, Robert Rodriguez stopped by the Collider Studio at SXSW to talk about the projects. During the wide-ranging interview, he spoke about where the idea came from, the importance of refusing to spend money, the “profound experience” of going back and making a film with $7,000 again, and how Red 11 is inspired by what happened to him. Plus, why he wanted to make a new movie for that low cost and then document the process digitally, how creativity dominates when resources are stripped away, and so much more. In addition, he played “Get To Know Your SXSW Attendee,” which includes a number of questions like what TV show he'd like to guest-star on, what he collects, what’s his favorite fantasy or sci-fi movie, what film scared him as a kid, his first movie or TV show crush, if he prefers Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad, and a lot of other fun stuff. Will Endgame Be The End of Thanos? SUBSCRIBE NOW to CBR! Click here: https://goo.gl/wMuSDD There are tons of theories out there concerning the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Endgame and our dear friend Thanos doesn’t survive most of them, but could they really defeat the Mad Titan for good? It’s time for us to debunk this theory for good. We’ll talk about what kind of villain Thanos really is, both in the comic books and in the MCU, and what this means for his fate. Although she may hate him, Thanos is an important part of Nebula’s backstory and where would she be if he finally disappeared? We also know that, in the comic books, he has dealings with a character named Adam Warlock who we caught a glimpse of during the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
