Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo First Powered Flight

02:59
Credit: Virgin Galactic http://www.virgingalactic.com MOJAVE, Calif. -- Today, Virgin Galactic, the world's first commercial spaceline owned by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group and Abu Dhabi's aabar Investments PJC, completed the first rocket-powered flight of its space vehicle, SpaceShipTwo (SS2). The test, conducted by teams from Scaled Composites (Scaled) and Virgin Galactic, officially marks Virgin Galactic's entrance into the final phase of vehicle testing prior to commercial service from Spaceport America in New Mexico. "The first powered flight of Virgin Spaceship Enterprise was without any doubt, our single most important flight test to date," said Virgin Galactic Founder Sir Richard Branson, who was on the ground in Mojave to witness the occasion. "For the first time, we were able to prove the key components of the system, fully integrated and in flight. Today's supersonic success opens the way for a rapid expansion of the spaceship's powered flight envelope, with a very realistic goal of full space flight by the year's end. We saw history in the making today and I couldn't be more proud of everyone involved." The test began at 7:02 a.m. local time when SS2 took off from Mojave Air and Space Port mated to WhiteKnightTwo (WK2), Virgin Galactic's carrier aircraft. Piloting SS2 were Mark Stucky, pilot, and Mike Alsbury, co-pilot, who are test pilots for Scaled, which built SS2 for Virgin Galactic. At the WK2 controls were Virgin Galactic's Chief Pilot Dave Mackay, assisted by Clint Nichols and Brian Maisler, co-pilot and flight test engineer, respectively, for Scaled. Upon reaching 47,000 feet altitude and approximately 45 minutes into the flight, SS2 was released from WK2. After cross-checking data and verifying stable control, the pilots triggered ignition of the rocket motor, causing the main oxidizer valve to open and igniters to fire within the fuel case. At this point, SS2 was propelled forward and upward to a maximum altitude of 55,000 feet. The entire engine burn lasted 16 seconds, as planned. During this time, SS2 went supersonic, achieving Mach 1.2. "We partnered with Virgin Galactic several years ago with the aspiration to transform and commercialize access to space for the broader public," said His Excellency Khadem Al Qubaisi, Chairman of aabar Investments PJC. "Today's test is another key milestone in realizing that aspiration. Our partnership goes from strength to strength, and is an excellent example of aabar's desire to participate in the development of world class technologies that are commercially viable and strategically important, both for the company, its shareholders, and for Abu Dhabi." The entire rocket-powered flight test lasted just over 10 minutes, culminating in a smooth landing for SS2 in Mojave at approximately 8 a.m. local time. "The rocket motor ignition went as planned, with the expected burn duration, good engine performance and solid vehicle handling qualities throughout," said Virgin Galactic President & CEO George Whitesides. "The successful outcome of this test marks a pivotal point for our program. We will now embark on a handful of similar powered flight tests, and then make our first test flight to space." In the coming months, the Virgin Galactic and Scaled test team will expand the spaceship's powered flight envelope culminating in full space flight, which the companies anticipate will take place before the end of 2013. "I'd like to congratulate the entire team," said President of Scaled Kevin Mickey. "This milestone has been a long time coming and it's only through the hard work of the team and the tremendous support of Virgin Galactic that we have been able to witness this important milestone. We look forward to all our upcoming tests and successes." 'Ukraine Is A Good Place To Invest', Richard Branson

08:31
Business people have been put off by the current situation in Ukraine but Branson pointed out that the best investors invest when things are difficult: “Personally, I think that Ukraine is a good place to invest. I don’t think it can get financially any worse than it is today," said Richard Branson, British businessman, investor and founder of Virgin Group. Branson, who arrived in Kyiv to give a seminar on 30 April, 2015, told Hromadkse that he is in discussion with a couple sectors about investing in Ukraine. Though he refrained from making an official announcement, he said that he was hopeful that Virgin would start doing business in Ukraine. His advice to Ukrainian businesses who want to expand their brands was to think of the world as one country. “If you have a product that works well in your country, it could well work well throughout the world,” said Branson. One thing that Branson stressed is that Ukraine must put together in order to attract foreign investment is a 10-year government-led plan to make the country energy self-sufficient. He believes that a green energy revolution in Ukraine would stop money going out to other countries. He also emphasized the need for the Ukrainian authorities to take a different approach to drug abuse – to treat it more as a health problem than a criminal one. // Hromadske's Ruslan Khavriuta and Yevhen Yevreiskyi spoke with Richard Branson in Kyiv, on April 30th, 2015. Bill Gates, Richard Branson Invest in Food Startup Company

00:42
Bill Gates, Richard Branson are reportedly among several high-profile backers of a new startup called Memphis Meats, which develops meat from stem cells. The company, which was founded in 2015, is among several other similar businesses that have popped up over the last three years who are trying to reduce the world's reliance on meat, since it's so environmentally unsustainable. Cardiologist Uma Valeti, one of Memphis Meats' founders, said in a recent interview, "The way conventional meat is produced today creates huge problems for the environment, animal welfare and human health. These are problems that everyone wants to solve, and we can solve them by bringing this incredible group of partners under one tent. This group will help us accelerate our progress significantly." http://www.businessinsider.com/memphis-meats-raised-17-million-from-bill-gates-dfj-atomico-2017-8 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Business using http://wochit.com

Hyperloop One Explained By Richard Branson

10:56
Today marks the groundbreaking announcement of Virgin Group’s investment in Hyperloop One, the innovative and exciting new way to move people and things at airline speeds on the ground. Hyperloop One will officially be rebranded as Virgin Hyperloop One. With Virgin Hyperloop One, passengers and cargo will be loaded into a pod, and accelerated gradually via electric propulsion through a low-pressure tube. The pod quickly lifts above the track using magnetic levitation and glides at airline speeds for long distances due to ultra-low aerodynamic drag. During phase two of testing, the top speed of the hyperloop was 192mph (310kmh) – or 86 metres per second. With projected journey times in the UK including Edinburgh to London in 50 minutes, and Glasgow to Liverpool in 47 minutes, Virgin Hyperloop One is set to transform passengers’ lives. You may first have heard of the original Hyperloop concept through Elon Musk and SpaceX’s white paper back in August 2013. Virgin has been known for disruption and innovation in transport from their trains to their spaceline, and the proprietary levitation system of Hyperloop One is the next frontier. Virgin Hyperloop One will be all-electric and it is working to ensure that it is a responsible and sustainable form of transportation. The technology for Hyperloop One is currently in the early stages of the commercialisation phase after the successful completion of the world's first full-scale Hyperloop systems test at their DevLoop site outside of Las Vegas. The Brand of Virgin Group in Richard Branson's Interview

02:01:36
Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson born 18 July 1950 is an English business magnate, investor and philanthropist. He founded the Virgin Group, which controls more than 400 companies. Branson expressed his desire to become an entrepreneur at a young age. His first business venture, at the age of 16, was a magazine called Student. In 1970, he set up a mail-order record business. He opened a chain of record stores, Virgin Records—later known as Virgin Megastores—in 1972. Branson's Virgin brand grew rapidly during the 1980s, as he set up Virgin Atlantic airline and expanded the Virgin Records music label. In March 2000, Branson was knighted at Buckingham Palace for "services to entrepreneurship". For his work in retail, music and transport (with interests in land, air, sea and space travel), his taste for adventure, and for his humanitarian work, he became a prominent figure. In 2002, he was named in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. In 2004, he founded spaceflight corporation Virgin Galactic, noted for the SpaceShipOne project. In November 2017, Forbes listed Branson's estimated net worth at $5.1 billion Branson formed Virgin Atlantic Airways in 1984, launched Virgin Mobile in 1999, and Virgin Australia in 2000. He was ninth in The Sunday Times Rich List 2006 of the wealthiest people or families in the UK, worth slightly more than £3 billion. Branson wrote in his autobiography of the decision to start an airline: "My interest in life comes from setting myself huge, apparently unachievable challenges and trying to rise above them ... from the perspective of wanting to live life to the full, I felt that I had to attempt it." Branson's first successful entry into the airline industry was during a trip to Puerto Rico. His flight was cancelled, so he decided to charter his own plane the rest of the way and offer a ride to the rest of the stranded passengers for a small fee in order to cover the cost. In 1993, Branson took what many saw as being one of his riskier business exploits by entering into the railway business. Virgin Trains won the franchises for the former Intercity West Coast and Cross-Country sectors of British Rail. Virgin acquired European short-haul airline Euro Belgian Airlines in 1996 and renamed it Virgin Express. In 2006, the airline was merged with SN Brussels Airlines forming Brussels Airlines. It also started a national airline based in Nigeria, called Virgin Nigeria. Another airline, Virgin America, began flying out of San Francisco International Airport in August 2007. On 25 September 2004, Branson announced the signing of a deal under which a new space tourism company, Virgin Galactic, will license the technology behind Spaceship One—funded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and designed by legendary American aeronautical engineer and visionary Burt Rutan—to take paying passengers into suborbital space. Virgin Galactic (wholly owned by Virgin Group) plans to make flights available to the public with tickets priced at US$200,000 using Scaled Composites White Knight Two. At the time, Branson said that he planned to take his two children, 31-year-old Holly and 28-year-old Sam, on a trip to outer space when they ride the SpaceShipTwo rocket plane on its first public flight then planned for 2014. As part of his promotion of the firm, Branson has added a variation of the Virgin Galactic livery to his personal business jet, the Dassault Falcon 900EX "Galactic Girl" (G-GALX). In July 2012, Branson announced plans to build an orbital space launch system, designated LauncherOne. Four commercial customers have already contracted for launches and two companies are developing standardised satellite buses optimised to the design of LauncherOne, in expectation of business opportunities created by the new smallsat launcher. In September 2014, Branson announced his investment in drone company 3D Robotics stating, “It's amazing to see what a little flying object with a GoPro attached can do. Before they came along the alternative was an expensive helicopter and crew. I'm really excited about the potential 3D Robotics sees in drones. They can do a lot of good in the world, and I hope this affordable technology will give many more people the chance to see our beautiful planet from such a powerful perspective” This material been used for Educational purpose only. Branson’s latest leaked investment goes viral! How many new Filipino millionaires will it create

02:05
At first, Sir Branson was furious over the leak of this new online trading platform. Many famous investors such as Sir Richard Branson have put over $20 million into making the platform generate a profit from "nearly every trade". "We wanted only a small group at first until we were sure it worked. I also didn't want to have my name out there until I could totally stand behind the product. Now that it's out though, I'll share that our initial test group had incredible success with the platform." Mr. Branson continued, "Honestly, it's good that others can benefit from it sooner. This can actually help people from any background become financially free. I just wish I had it when I was starting out!" One very lucky Filipino, Benjie Fernando, was part of the initial test group. This regular guy, who lost his job last year, turned his life around with only $250.Before 2016, Benjie Fernando had a hard couple of years. He spiraled into depression after tragically losing his wife and then his job at the young age of 35. He couldn't pay his bills and was almost evicted from his home. But now, thanks to this simple options trading software, Benjie’s life is turning around... Benjie found the Regal Wealth platform and it would change his life forever. "I found Regal Wealth while searching online for work at home opportunities. I didn’t believe the video at first, seeing so many people earn thousands and even hundreds of thousands trading online. But once I made my deposits, I went through the written material and the experience was incredible! I didn't expect much but from the start, it was actually fun! The courses were easy to get through and I made about $600 USD the first week. As promised, there weren't any commission fees and I always get paid on time! if you like this video please leave a like and subscribe. CREATED BY RED FRAX NEWS COMMUNITY

Steve Forbes Richard Branson And Bill Gates On Bitcoin Investing: A Smart Long Term Move In 2018

04:53
Bitcoin Inestment Kit: https://regalwallet.com/?id=7787 Bitcoin has been one of the most amazing currencies to watch in the history of mankind. First of all, the value of Bitcoin is only as strong as the trust that the Bitcoin community places in it, which means it holds an intrinsic value and not a real value such as gold, silver or land. Those commodities will always hold value, and can be traded no matter what happens in the world. If someone were to pull the plug on our power grid, bitcoin would literally become absolutely worthless in an instant. So would paper currencies however, so their existence has actually provided precedence for the creation of the new digital currency. invest in bitcoinSo while the faith we maintain as a society in our technological advancement grows, it also paves the way for this new phenomenon of Bitcoins and all other alt-coins. The value of a single bitcoin rose quickly in 2013 to a record $1200 per bitcoin. This was mainly due to a large number of quick profit opportunists jumping on the new gold rush. It’s value has since fallen to less than half of it’s high, while the world still tries to figure out what exactly is bitcoin, and how it will become useful to the general public. However the speed at which the currency is being adopted by huge corporations is staggering. Some of the companies accepting bitcoin include: Amazon Subway Victorias Secret Fiverr Zappos Tesla Motors Home Depot Sears Kmart Expedia This coin is simply not going away anytime soon. The true value of the coin is still yet to be seen. Until the entire world understands how the coin works, and what it really is useful for, we won’t know what a bitcoin will be worth in a stable manner. Should You Invest In Bitcoin? That’s a decision you’ll have to make on your own, but what you should consider are the fact that Bitcoin still remains one of the most watched and speculated currencies of all time. Here are a few very interesting fact regarding bitcoin, and something to think about when pondering if this coin will rise to astronomic heights, or shrivel and fade away. It’s had it’s fair share major setbacks such as the Silk Road scandal, Mt Gox collapsing, which was one of the worlds biggest Bitcoin Exchanges, and a host of other problems. Yet it remains a new method of payment solution for a quickly growing number of large companies around the world. There are only so many Bitcoins available in the world. We cannot create more bitcoins, like we do with money, which only services to deflate the actual value of paper currencies. Once all the Bitcoins are released into the systems, they will actually go UP in value do to supply and demand. If bitcoin is adopted on a mass scale, it’s value WILL in fact go up. Just how much no one knows. Bitcoins work as a payment solution like Paypal, Payza or those types of sites. It eliminates the need for the typical banking transaction fees associated with large volume transfers of money. With Bitcoin, any two parties can do business without borders, and without fees. The general public still doesn’t understand this fact. Bitcoin is now processing more transactions than Paypal, and is less than 1/10th of it’s age. Deciding on whether to invest in Bitcoins or not, should not be based on it’s USD-Bitcoin pricing valuation at the moment. That number is no where near it’s real mark. Research Bitcoin, what it is used for, what it would do for society, and if you believe it’s going to be adopted, then invest in it. Never purchase what you cannot afford to lose, and don’t take more risk than you are comfortable with. Decide how you want to invest in bitcoin as there are many ways to acquire it. You can buy bitcoin, and ride it’s price value then sell it. Many currency traders use Bitcoin Bots to handle their trades for them automatically. You can buy a select amount of coins, and hold onto them. You can try your hand at mining bitcoins and generate them that way. No matter what you do, Bitcoin is sure a fun and interesting thing to watch! We hope you like this information and come back to visits soon. Please leave your comments below! Meet the CEO Who Failed on ‘Shark Tank’ But Got Richard Branson to Bite

03:26
Richard Branson is investing in a smart doorbell startup that once failed on TV’s ‘Shark Tank.’ The company, Ring, just received $28 million in Series B funding from multiple investors, including billionaire Branson, who is also founder of Virgin Group. Ring allows users to see who’s at their doorstep via smartphone. Branson came across the device and contacted the startup’s CEO James Siminoff. ‘When Branson talked to me, I wasn’t sure if he was just curious about the product or wanted to invest,’ Siminoff said. ‘But when I told him about how our actual mission is to reduce crime in communities, I think he saw a good business today and a great business tomorrow.’ But Siminoff is grateful to have appeared on ‘Shark Tank’,’ which airs on ABC, owned by the Walt Disney Company (DIS). The only ‘shark’ on the show to make an offer was Kevin O’Leary, which Siminoff rejected. ‘It was a pretty tough offer that included residual payments and giving cash out right off the bat in an early stage company was something we couldn’t do,’ Siminoff said. But the appearance paid off, as Siminoff saw a huge bump in sales once the episode aired. Richard Branson - Building The Virgin Empire

04:44
On Richard Branson’s last day at school, his headmaster told him that he would either end up in prison, or become a millionaire. Spoilers! Both predictions would in fact, come true. As of January 2018, Richard Branson enjoys a net worth of 5.1 billion Dollars. Branson’s a big character and so too is his story. Too big to fit into a short video. So let’s cut to the chase. How did he create his fortune? Well, Richard Branson did it the old-fashioned way—hard work, super effective branding, and empire building. Easy right? A lot of entrepreneurs today build a business with an exit strategy in mind—to sell it for big returns before moving onto another venture… …not so with Branson. His one big sale (of Virgin Records in 1992 for one billion dollars) left him in tears, and aching to return to the music business— which he eventually did in 1996 with his new record label V2. Branson instead, diversified, added on industry after unrelated industry to the Virgin brand. From music records to airlines to finance to trains… to publishing… the Virgin empire grows in an extensive, but successful manner, just like its founder. So where did it all begin? At the age of 16, his first business venture was a magazine called Student Here’s a Fun Fact: the business operated out of a church crypt for some time during its early days. Everyone worked fast to avoid being the last to leave at night! Student Magazine advertised and sold the most popular records at the time via mail order. Noticing how well that aspect of the business was doing, Branson and his team, decided to focus their efforts on mail-order records by 1970… One of Branson's first employees suggested that because they were all new at business… why not use the name "Virgin"? It stuck. The mail order business suffered because of a major postal strike in the UK. So, In 1971, the first Virgin Record Shop (complete with listening booths and beanbag chairs for customer comfort) opened in London. Unfortunately, his businesses were still not making money Branson had an idea: he would sell records in Virgin stores, which had been declared export stock, thus saving 33% VAT. A Virgin at business… and a Virgin at crime! Branson was soon caught by UK customs and arrested for not paying duties on vanloads of records. He spent a night in jail, before his parents posted bail. He avoided going to court by agreeing to pay a fine, plus any duties owed. “Incentives come in all shapes and sizes,” admitted Branson, “but avoiding prison was the most persuasive incentive I’ve ever had.” The music label Virgin Records was founded in 1972, and when his first artist Mike Oldfield sold over 5 million copies of "Tubular Bells”, Branson became a millionaire for the first time. You see? Both predictions came true! The record company would go on to sign iconic acts such as the Sex Pistols, and Virgin Group would grow into an equally well-known brand, comprising investments in over 400 companies. Knighted in 2000, Sir Richard Branson, is regarded as one of the world's "Fun" billionaires. His world record-breaking attempts are well known and documented. In 1985 he had to be rescued by the British Royal Air Force when his boat capsized in an Atlantic Ocean record attempt. However, some of his Other feats have been more successful. In 1991 Branson crossed the Pacific from Japan to Arctic Canada, with a record breaking speed of 245 miles per hour. A big fan of reading (like many other successful billionaires such as Warren Buffet and Elon Musk) he founded Virgin Comics in 2006, saying that it will give "a whole generation of young, creative thinkers a voice" With this launch, he brought back “Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future.” Branson himself is keen to follow in the footsteps of this 1950s space hero with Virgin Galactic— a spaceflight company. The ultimate aim is to provide suborbital launches for space science missions and spaceflights for fare paying space tourists. Branson himself hopes to be on one of the first flights. Biofuels for jet aircraft is another of his passions. Virgin has been exploring different methods using sugar cane and algae to develop aviation fuel. Branson is aware that any breakthrough which provides a viable, cheaper fuel would be a goldmine, both commercially and for the planet. Branson is a complex character, full of contradictions. A maverick willing to buck the law, turned respected businessman. A man who projects a social conscience, yet lives as a tax exile on Necker island (ironically in the British Virgin Islands). A former climate change sceptic, turned environmentalist and bio fuel investor. A business epitaph for Branson could well be one of his most famous quotes: You don't learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.

Richard Branson's Virgin Group Invests In Hyperloop One

01:19
On Thursday Hyperloop One - the California-based company working on a high-speed transit system similar to one that Elon Musk first outlined in 2013 - announced that it had struck an investment deal with Richard Branson's Virgin Group. The agreement involves the company rebranding to be called "Virgin Hyperloop One," and working on a plan to build a train that will eventually go from London to Edinburgh in 50 minutes. Branson, who reportedly led an $85 million investment into the company, has also joined the board of directors. Along with the proposed London to Edinburgh route, the company has projects underway in the UAE, the U.S., Canada, Finland, the Netherlands, and India. In a tweet, Branson called the Hyperloop "the world's most revolutionary train service," and wrote in a press release, "After visiting Hyperloop One’s test site in Nevada and meeting its leadership team this past summer, I am convinced this groundbreaking technology will change transportation as we know it and dramatically cut journey times." http://www.businessinsider.com/hyperloop-one-train-to-go-from-london-to-edinburgh-in-50-minutes-2017-10 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Tech using http://wochit.com

Richard Branson Net Worth & Biography 2018 | Virgin Earnings & Salary!

01:31
Sir Richard Nicholas Branson is the son of a British lawyer and flight attendant who has had a rather unusual business career. He dropped out of preparatory school when 16 years old, and then established a magazine about college life and began what has become a uniquely successful string of business ventures. The magazine name was Student. Branson was born on July 18, 1950, and his home town is in Blackheath, England. Branson is married to Joan Templeman. Branson truly made his first mark on the global business community after he began an mail order record company which became the record store chain Virgin Records as a part of the parent company Virgin Music. Branson later added a recording studio to the operation, eventually selling the company in 2013 for a reported $23.3 billion to Liberty Global Investments. Branson's current assets are housed at the Blaze Company, which is a high-tech bicycle operation. Branson earned $500,000 from this investment in 2014. His primary investment is in his partnership with Expa, where he earned $50 million in 2014. While Branson is a very high-profile business figure for his innovative thinking and willingness to invest where others do not dare to go, he is also known for strong and effective decision-making abilities. His visionary concept of futuristic space travel is particularly interesting. Branson claims this will be his next venture capital investment. Sir Richard Branson has as estimated personal wealth of $4.9 billion. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "20,000 Subscriber Giveaway! The Billionaires Club! Sir Richard Branson leads investors in talks with President Kenyatta

00:36
Kenya is a model investment destination and a model for the rest of Africa, Sir Richard Branson, founder and CEO of the Virgin Group, said in Nairobi on Saturday morning. Sir Branson made the comments when he led a group of investors in talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta at his Harambee House office. The meeting explored how to make the most of Kenya’s abundant potential for green energy, according to a State House statement. He said the proposed renewable energy projects would benefit the 50% Kenyans who are yet to access electricity. President Kenyatta's Twitter account tweeted about the meeting with Branson, Zimbabwean entrepreneur Dr Strive Masiyiwa and Jacqueline Novogratz describing them as social investors. Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore was also there, saw the tweet and shot back: I guess I'm not a social investor then. In the company of billionaires, even Bob Collymore is just a regular guy despite sitting next to the president. Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo Test (2013)

00:33
We look forward to all our upcoming tests and successes." Richard Branson: Declaring War on Carbon Emissions (IAMECO Warrior)

02:36
English business magnate, innovator and investor Sir Richard Branson is best known as the founder of the Virgin Group of more than 400 companies, including the airline Virgin Atlantic, a space tourism venture called Virgin Galactic, and the Virgin Green Fund, an investment vehicle that supports companies in the renewable energy and resource efficiency sectors in the U.S. and Europe. Branson also co-founded The Carbon War Room, an international non-governmental organization that harnesses the power of entrepreneurs to create market-driven solutions to climate change and promote a post-carbon economy. www.iamecowarrior.com with animations courtesy of www.youtube.com/user/CarbonWarRoom Transcript -- Richard Branson, Founder, Virgin Group I love a challenge. I love learning. I like to try to make a difference. If you find yourself in a position where you can make a difference you have a responsibility to not waste that position -- getting out there and motivating people, getting a fantastic team around you, and not trying to do everything yourself, which some people make the mistake of trying. I think every company should be a force for good, not just a money-making machine for the shareholders at the end of the year. If every company in the world could start thinking that way, the world would get on top of most problems that are out there. What does IAMECO Warrior mean to you? An Eco Warrior is somebody that wants to fight for this beautiful planet, to protect the planet, to protect the species on it, and to make sure that when they die they've left the planet in a better place because they've lived than if they hadn't lived. Virgin Group We're in the airline business. The airline business is a dirty business -- it emits carbon. It's an essential part of peoples' lives, and so the ideal situation is that the airline business continues, that it continues to grow, but that we fly on planes that are run on fuel that is not damaging our environment -- an algae-based fuel, an isobutanol-based fuel, that one or both of those may power our planes going forward. The Carbon War Room If you have a major enemy like carbon, and some people say it's a bigger threat than World War I and World War II put together, then you need a War Room. You need a center which looks at every single way of attacking that enemy. So we set up the War Room in Washington; we've got entrepreneurs running it. We've taken the 25 biggest sectors in the world that emit carbon, and we're not attacking those sectors, you know. As business leaders we're working with each of those sectors to help each of those sectors get a giga-ton of carbon out of their, out of their sectors. And if they do get a giga-ton of carbon out, they may be more profitable, so it needn't necessarily be a punishment for them to have to do that. Overwhelming evidence seemed to indicate that we were creating a problem and that we needed to do something about it. So I decided to do something about it. Join the Movement There are some environmentalists, they want to punish people. They want to tell people, "you can't fly," or "you can't drive your car," but realistically what we've got to do is use our brain power to overcome these problems, and I think we can. Richard Branson: Learn From The Experts: Richard Branson, Virgin, by Alun Hill

Richard Branson: Learn From The Experts: Richard Branson, Virgin, by Alun Hill Of all the world’s current billionaires, probably none are as unique, and successful because of their uniqueness, as Sir Richard Branson. If there’s one guy who just wants to have fun and is making money doing it, it’s him. Branson founded the infamous Virgin Group, made up of nearly 300 companies as diverse as it gets. Beginning of a Billionaire Richard Branson was born in London in 1950. His mother was a ballet dancer and flight attendant, and his father worked in law. He was never really a good student – in fact, he was a terrible student and he’ll readily admit it. After making the rounds at various private schools around London, Branson was ready to drop out of school when he was only 15 years old. His headmaster told him that he’d either end up in prison or become a millionaire. He did go to prison before making his first million, but today he’s worth approximately $5.1 billion. Branson wanted to do something fun and entrepreneurial upon dropping out, and starting a magazine sounded like a great idea. Student magazine would be for teenagers, by teenagers. His father told him that he could only drop out of school if he sold a certain amount of advertising for this new magazine. He quickly sold $8,000 in advertisements and launched the national magazine in 1966. The first edition was distributed for free, covered by the advertising profits. Student actually didn’t do so well financially, despite Branson having interviewed some big names in music during the late 1960s like Mick Jagger and K.D. Lang. Branson recognized that things weren’t working out and started approaching the business from a different angle – a tactic he continues to do to this day. The album advertisements were the most successful part of his magazine, so in 1970 Branson started selling albums through the mail under the trade name Virgin. One of his employees at the magazine suggested the name because none of them really had any business experience at all. This mail-order record business became a hit, due in part to the fact that he was selling these records for much less than the brick-and-mortar chain stores were. But this practice hit Branson and he still wasn’t profiting off of it. One day during a drive to export records to Belgium, Branson realized that once those albums were marked for export he didn’t have to pay the 33% sales tax on domestic sales. Branson turned around back to his shop and sold these albums marked as exports without collecting tax. Branson’s plan to avoid taxes seemed to him the perfect way to get out of debt. He wasn’t the first to do this though, and customs officials were wary of it. They noticed on one of his export forms that he wrote he exported 30,000 records in a single Land Rover. There’s no way he could have done this, so customs set up a sting and busted him for tax evasion. Branson was thrown in jail for a night and his mother re-mortgaged the house to bail him out. The lesson was a good one for Branson. He had run his business on petty cash and without any record-keeping up to that point. So he started to get organized and, doing things legally, was able to profit enough to not only pay off the 60,000 pound fine, but to expand and open more stores. The stores started to do extremely well for Branson. In 1972 the next logical step for Branson, because it would be fun, was to start his own record label. He called this new record label Virgin Records and bought a large estate near Oxford where he put in his own crude recording studio. He helped pay for this by renting the studio out to anyone with money to do so. The first album that Virgin Records released, a progressive rock album Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, went to the top of the charts in 1973. It stayed on the charts for almost five years. This album put the name Virgin Records on the map. Branson signed many controversial bands that other labels wouldn’t touch, including the Sex Pistols. The popularity of the Sex Pistols had a lot to do with the success of Virgin Records during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Virgin Records would go on to sign more new wave music groups, such as Culture Club, Devo, the Human League, and Simple Minds. A 1977 trip to Jamaica brought Branson and Virgin into the reggae industry and led him to sign dozens of artists. Jamaicans couldn’t accept checks for payment so Branson sent cases full of cash to pay them. This is one of many examples of how Branson’s unconventional, “outside-the-box” ways have brought him success. Transportation Branson doesn’t want to do anything that isn’t fun. His whole life is about having fun doing new things. So you can imagine how shocked Virgin Records leadership was when Branson said he wanted to use almost half of the company's profits to start an airline because it would be "fun".

2017 VIRGIN HYPERLOOP ONE REVEAL & EXPLAINED BY RICHARD BRANSON (ENG)

05:17
The British entrepreneur says he wants to make ‘airline speeds on the ground’ a reality, while engineering experts cast doubt on the safety of the technology. Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group has invested an undisclosed amount in Hyperloop One, the frontrunner of a number of companies competing to bring Elon Musk’s futuristic vision of a magnetically-propelled high-speed transport system to life. The investment, which makes up part of an $85m fundraising announced in September, will see Hyperloop One changing adding the Virgin name to its branding. “This is an incredibly innovative and exciting new way to move people and things at airline speeds on the ground,” Branson said in a statement. “With Virgin Hyperloop One, passengers and cargo will be loaded into a pod, and accelerate gradually via electric propulsion through a low-pressure tube. The pod quickly lifts above the track using magnetic levitation and glides at airline speeds for long distances due to ultra-low aerodynamic drag. We’re incredibly excited about the technology behind Virgin Hyperloop One and the way it could transform passengers’ lives.” Josh Giegel, co-founder of Hyperloop One, said “the combination of our proven technology and Virgin’s expertise in transportation, operations, safety and passenger experience will accelerate the commercialisation phase of our company’s development. Together with Virgin, we will not only transform how we live, we will rethink how it feels to travel by creating a passenger experience that people will enjoy and look forward to riding. Our goal is to make travel fun again.” The Hyperloop concept was first mooted in 2013, when Elon Musk, the billionaire behind Tesla cars and the SpaceX rocket business, released a 57 page “open source” document detailing his plans for a transport system that would carry travellers from San Francisco to LA in a matter of minutes. The details of his proposal might have been unconvincing to many experts – one transportation engineer noted that, among other things, Musk radically underestimated the cost of concrete viaducts, the unpleasantness of high-speed tight corners and the difficulty of safely stopping in an emergency – but the proposal spawned a number of companies eager to work on versions of the idea.
