Building Information Management or BIM has many uses in Civil Engineering Construction. Presently 3D models are used to coordinate design inputs from the various disciplines. 3D Visualisations and Animations can be included in technical films and PowerPoint presentations and used for the following purposes. Tender Presentations showing how a project will be constructed. Including sequence, methods, plant and timelines. Constructability Studies Knowledge Capture and Sharing Technical & Safety Training Project Familiarisation Trouble Shooting, Brainstorming, and aid for decision making Preparing Method Statements and Safety Risk Assessments Programming and getting commitment from the Site Team Sequencing work activities Organising resources by seeing what plant and manpower is required and when. Proving Delay and Disruption Entitlements Reviewing and recording progress Producing Infographics for Workshops, meetings and conferences. Company Promotional purposes In construction the main problem is turning ideas (i.e. Drawings) into reality. Most people working in construction are Do-ers who are better at walking the walk than talking the talk. Do-ers need to have a mental picture of what has to be built with the sequence, methods and resources required, so they can understand what has to be done and when, effectively create something and solve problems, for this reason visual learning is effective and the best learning style. Another problem in construction is knowledge and know-how gained on construction sites is not captured and shared. Furthermore site staff and workers need to be trained on what to expect when they go onto site and the safety risks and control measures to reduce the probability of injury and accidents. As a way of overcoming the above I make films with 3D Animations, infographics, timelines, photographs and video footage to show how work activities and projects were and are constructed. These projects range from airports, seaports, motorways and railways to oil and gas plants & pipelines, metros, in-sit-u piles, bridge construction, post-tensioning, precast yard, quarry, roofing and more. The films fall into the category of ‘edutainment’ and contain engineering educational value which site members find of great interest. For the past six years, I’ve been working for international construction companies in the Middle East on billion-dollar oil and gas, motorway, sea ports and aviation projects. As part of my work, I was asked to write articles and make PowerPoint presentations showing how it was intended to carry out works containing methods, sequence and the resources. This developed into producing short films containing 3D visualizations & animations, photographs and video footage. The films are used for tender presentations, for supporting contractual claims, as site inductions to familiarise staff and workers with projects, to show progress, to demonstrate construction issues with proposed designs and for company promotional purposes. The films are generally shown at workshops, site meetings, conferences and tender presentations. Recently, for example, I prepared a film for a major international oil and gas company as part of a constructability presentation, showing how a gas-processing plant and pipelines will be constructed that included the resources to be employed and timelines for the various activities. Also 3D Animations can be used for technical and Safety Induction Training to familiarise new employees with projects, also can be used to evaluate and analyse risks and to produce financial and safety risk assessments. Introduction to Database Concepts and Data Modeling An information model in software engineering is a representation of concepts and the relationships, constraints, rules, and operations to specify data semantics for a chosen domain of discourse. Typically it specifies relations between kinds of things, but may also include relations with individual things. It can provide sharable, stable, and organized structure of information requirements or knowledge for the domain context. conceptual data model | data modeling | conceptual model | what is model | database models | what is a model | logic design | what is data modeling | logical data model | physical model | conceptual data model | relational data model | concept model | types of data models | data modeling techniques | physical data model | information model | data model definition | conceptual model definition | conceptual model examples | what is a data model | data modelling concepts | what is a conceptual model More Articles, Scripts and How-To Papers on http://www.aodba.com

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building Information Models (BIMs) are files (often but not always in proprietary formats and containing proprietary data) which can be exchanged or networked to support decision-making about a place. Current BIM software is used by individuals, businesses and government agencies who plan, design, construct, operate and maintain diverse physical infrastructures, from water, wastewater, electricity, gas, refuse and communication utilities to roads, bridges and ports, from houses, apartments, schools and shops to offices, factories, warehouses and prisons, etc. This video is targeted to blind users. Dive into a miniature world by watching an amazing compilation of dioramas being made! Roman Khramov is an artist from Saint Petersburg, Russia. He creates realistic dioramas and shares tutorials and other useful information about them on his YouTube channel. It's not his main job - it's his hobby, and in order not to spend too much time on his dioramas, Roman plans his ideas and thinks about the materials he will use in advance. For his dioramas, Roman uses Penoplex, real sand and dried tree bark, epoxy resin, silicone, and other materials, both ordinary ones and those bought from a special shop. A diorama is an easy way to build an exciting scene in a small space. Usually, it represents a historical period of time or a natural scene, and it creates a lot of space for creativity! Check out this amazing compilation that will impress you with its realism! Join Stephen Hamil, Director of Design and Innovation at NBS, for a comprehensive explanation of the new BIM Toolkit – the easy way to define who is doing what and when on BIM Level 2 projects! Earlier this year, NBS and the UK Government BIM Task Group went on-the-road to the UK’s regions to demonstrate the Toolkit. Filmed at University of Westminster in March 2015, Stephen’s 45 minute presentation previewed the Toolkit which is now live. Support information for this free-to-use resource is available at: https://toolkit.thenbs.com/articles The Toolkit forms a key part of the UK Government BIM Task Group’s five year programme to deliver BIM Level 2. NBS successfully launched the beta version in April 2015 having won the Government’s competition to develop a free-to-use digital toolkit for BIM in September last year. Equally applicable to public or private sector projects, the Toolkit offers a straight-forward and intuitive way of defining, managing and validating responsibility for information development and delivery through a project’s lifecycle. In the video, Stephen takes us through the context of the UK Government’s strategy before outlining how the tool supports BIM Level 2 working at each step. “The Toolkit fits within the PAS 1192-2 [for project delivery] and PAS 1192-3 [for asset management] information delivery cycles” explains Stephen. “It’s about providing a better service to the Client in a more efficient way. It’s just trying to put together the things that the industry has always done in a digitally structured format”. 1. Assessment and Need (from 7.13) - From the outset of a new project, the Toolkit enables Clients (Employers) to clearly and comprehensively define their information requirements. That ensures that all parties clearly understand the information that a Client requires to make decisions during the project delivery phase and ultimately to operate and maintain their asset over its lifecycle. Clear requirements in place from the outset give project teams focus and direction and avoid data being generated needlessly. Creating an EIR can be a daunting prospect for Clients, especially for those that do not procure built assets on a regular basis. The BIM Toolkit uses plain language questions to guide them through the process in a logical and intuitive way. Once created, projects can be saved as templates to standardise future schemes. Once created in the BIM Toolkit, information from any stage can be exported out into a variety of formats. “That‘s a really important feature” said Stephen “We haven’t produced a single environment where teams can’t get their information out – it’s about interoperability”. 2. Procurement (from 16.15) - With clear requirements in place, the next phase of the Toolkit enables Clients to tender their project to providers and for those providers to respond with details of their teams and the services they offer. The result is standardised responses from bidders enabling Clients to evaluate and compare returns on a level playing field. 3. Production (from 18.00) - From that basis, the project moves into the design and construction phases. A digital plan of work is created with the selected team that clearly defines deliverables and timescales throughout the project. It grows with the BIM Execution Plan and Master Information Delivery Plan as the project cycle progresses. Stephen clarifies: “the digital plan of work is about defining information requirements – it’s not doing your drawings, specifying or cost analysis – its clear job is to define who is doing what and when”. The Toolkit offers fantastic functionality in the production phase, enabling teams to agree levels of detail, assign tasks and develop proposals within a clear document classification structure. 4. Handover and Use (from 40.12) - Moving from the project delivery phase to handover and then asset management, the Toolkit enables Clients to ultimately check that the information they specified at the outset has been accurately delivered. “It offers them well-structured digital information that can be pushed into asset management systems. Digital information at hand-over and not just boxes of paper” said Stephen. The BIM Toolkit was conceived by HM Government’s BIM Task Group and initially funded by Innovate UK. Development of the tool was led by the NBS team working in close partnership with BIM Academy, RICS, Microsoft, BDP, Mott MacDonald, Newcastle University and Laing O’Rourke. Further support was provided by APM, BIFM, CIBSE, CIOB, ICE, IStructE and RIBA. Why not start now? You can create a project for free with the BIM Toolkit here: https://toolkit.thenbs.com. It is also easy to keep up to date with progress and implementation by following @TheNBS and the #BIMToolkit hashtag on Twitter. © 2015 The B1M Limited | Share + Inspire

Have you ever wondered how an ultra-realistic diorama is made? In this tutorial I’ll show you exactly how to recreate an awesome model that is so realistic it will leave onlookers amazed! All of the techniques I use to build this model can be used for not only model railroading but they can also be adapted to military modelling, wargaming terrain, scenic diorama builders and maybe even movie sets as well. The diorama is built in HO scale and depicts a railroad somewhere in country Victoria Australia, the locomotive is a V/Line DRC and usually ran as a single unit, by the 1980's it was the fastest train in Australia based on it's average speed of 107kph. It ran on workstation computer hardware (by contrast, other 2D CAD systems could run on personal computers). The system was not expensive, according to Michael Phiri. Reiach Hall purchased "three Sonata workstations on Silicon Graphics machines, at a total cost of approximately £2000 each" [1990 prices]. Approximately 1000 seats were sold between 1985 and 1992. However, as a BIM application, in addition to geometric modelling, it could model complete buildings, including complex parametrics, costs and staging of the construction process.A large number of projects were designed and built using Sonata including Peddle Thorp Architect's Rod Laver Arena in 1987, and Gatwick Airport North Terminal Domestic Facility by Taylor Woodrow. The US-based architect HKS used the software in 1992 to design a horse racing facility (Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas) and subsequently purchased the successor product, Reflex. The Sonata business was founded in 1984 and, by one account it "disappeared in a mysterious, corporate black hole, somewhere in eastern Canada in 1992," after new owner Alias Research discontinued marketing of the product. Ingram then went on to develop Reflex, bought out by Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) in 1996.As of 2016, Sonata continues to run on an occasional basis at BAM Construct (UK) in St Albans, making it the oldest running BIM system in the world.

Delton, while best known for their trains produced a 1/2 inch scale fire wagon. Only 5 were ever made and sold for thousands.. But a 6th has been found!! AND the masters and patterns were with it. What little information is out there on the original model has been written about in "Lenny Sloboda Delton Locomotive Works Collection" 2 books and a web site. Do take a look!! Amazing information and collection of one of everything Delton. (really, everything) http://www.slobodadeltontraincollection.com/ The Delton story begins in 1980, when Bob Schuster, with his partners, formed a company to produce the very first US style plastic large scale trains to run on 45mm, #1 gauge track. After building several plastic models, they went on to produce very expensive brass models of early steam locomotives. Later they went back to producing plastic models. But the rare and highly sought after brass locomotives are the stuff of legend. From MyLargeScale.com: Delton Locomotive Works came to life with the production of just one outstanding 1:24 scale model in 1983. This first limited run model was hand fabricated in brass, had a paint job like nothing ever seen and was the first Colorado narrow gauge prototype to be made for 45mm track. The model was the famous Denver South Park & Pacific RR 2-6-6T, Mason Bogie #15 “Breckenridge” in 1:24 scale. This model was without doubt the first true scale model of a US prototype to be made in the US for the Largescale market. A year later, the leading European maker of trains for 45mm track, LGB of Germany, was to release their first US narrow gauge prototype, the 1884 South Park Cooke 2-6-0 and Largescale railroading in the US was alive. Delton – the Brass Era During 1984 and ’85, Bob continued to produce high quality brass 1:24 scale models, including the famous 4-2-4 CP #1 “C.P. Huntington”, 0-6-0s, 0-4-0s and 2-6-0s under the Delton name, seven different locomotives in all, in a variety of paint jobs. The models had everything he’d been striving for; quality, realism and for the first time the character of the 1870s ‘industrial art’ period of railroading in the US could really be felt in a model. The models were expensive and their 100 plus parts were assembled by hand, requiring about eight to twelve hours from start to completion. The Delton models were designed with all the style and charisma of the locomotives that were part of yesteryear. Even original "true" colors of the real engines were used on the Delton products. http://www.npcrr.com/Articles/PhilJensenStory/ThePhilJensenStory.pdf

COOL CLAY AND CEMENT CRAFTS FOR YOUR HOME There are so many cool crafts that you can make with clay and concrete! These simple materials are truly the sources of eternal crativity and fun. In this video we collected the coolest and the newest life hacks and creative ideas that can help you to make your home and a better and a brighter place. All these crafts can serve as amazing gifts to your friends and family members. You can make an awesome and very stylish bowl using...cauliflower! Sounds really incredible, doesn't it? It leaves very beautiful prints over wet cement, and we decided to use it while making a beuatiful bowl for jewelry. Only imagination is your limit. Another cool wet cement idea is a bowl with a leaf print. Cement is one of the coolest materials when it comes to creating pots and vases. It's really cheap and easy to work with. Ask you parents to help you with cement and pour a little bit of wet cement into a bottom of a silicon muffin tray. Put an egg into the middle and when the mixture gets dry, you'll get a cute and stylish pot for some small plants or candle holders. They look awesome, don't they? You can make a bigger pot using a bottle and a plastic cup as your stencils. If you pour cement or concrete into a apir of disposable gloves, and place them in a bowl to get dry, you can make a cute pot in a shape of hands. It looks adorable! You can also paint them your favorite color. Another amazing material for crafting is polymer clay. You can find a lot of awesome polymer clay crafts in this video! Have a good time crafting! Sometimes the best materials for modelling with are right under our noses, fallen leaves and bark that have been drying on the ground are a great example of natural material that we can use on our model railroads and dioramas. I’ve been using them for a while with fantastic results, simply gather up dead leaves and bark then ground them down to a fine texture, the beauty of this is it works for all scales. Depending on the scale you model simply sift out the larger pieces until your left with the size you want. I’ve used this for HO scale as well as N scale and both give a realistic result. This process is very simple and will most definitely save you a lot of dollars. Just be sure to use dead leaves and avoid green leaves that have not completely dried out as they will change color over time on your layout. Don’t forget to check out http://www.bouldercreekrailroad.com for more information, tutorials and modelling articles If you wish to help and support these videos also check out http://www.patreon.com/luketowan every little bit helps me stay motivated and continue to produce these videos for all to view.

Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Learning by listening is a great way to: - increases imagination and understanding - improves your listening skills - improves your own spoken accent - learn while on the move - reduce eye strain Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone. The object being modelled may be small (for example, an atom) or large (for example, the Solar System). The geometry of the model and the object it represents are often similar in the sense that one is a rescaling of the other; in such cases the scale is an important characteristic. However, in many cases the similarity is only approximate or even intentionally distorted. Sometimes the distortion is systematic with e.g. a fixed scale horizontally and a larger fixed scale vertically when modelling topography of a large area (as opposed to a model of a smaller mountain region, which may well use the same scale horizontally and vertically, and show the true slopes). Physical models allow visualization, from examining the model, of information about the thing the model represents. A model can be a physical object such as an architectural model of a building. Uses of an architectural model include visualization of internal relationships within the structure or external relationships of the structure to the environment. Other uses of models in this sense are as toys. Instrumented physical models are an effective way of investigating fluid flows for Engineering design. Physical models are often coupled with Computational Fluid Dynamics models to optimize the design of equipment and processes. This includes external flow such as around buildings, vehicles, people, or hydraulic structures. Wind Tunnel and Water Tunnel testing is often used for these design efforts. Instrumented physical models can also examine internal flows, for the design of ductwork systems, pollution control equipment, food processing machines, and mixing vessels. Transparent flow models are used in this case to observe the detailed flow phenomenon. These models are scaled in terms of both geometry and important forces, for example using Froude number or Reynolds number scaling (see Similitude (model)). A physical model of something large is usually smaller, and of something very small is larger. A physical model of something that can move, like a vehicle or machine, may be completely static, or have parts that can be moved manually, or be powered. A physical model may show inner parts that are normally not visible. The purpose of a physical model on a smaller scale may be to have a better overview, for testing purposes, as hobby or toy. The purpose of a physical model on a larger scale may be to see the structure of things that are normally too small to see properly or to see at all, for example a model of an insect or of a molecule. A physical model of an animal shows the animals physical composition without it walking or flying away, and without danger, and if the real animal is not available. A soft model of an animal is popular among children and some adults as cuddly toy.some models can be used in different ways as of like prototypes for cars. A model of a person may e.g. be a doll, a statue, and in fiction a robotic humanoid, e.g. the mechas in the movie A.I.. A model is a 3D alternative for a 2D representation such as a drawing or photograph, or in the case of a globe, a 3D, undistorted alternative for a flat world map.

Basically, the BIM defines designing process of building collectively, using a comprehensive system of computer models rather than using reams and reams of different sets of drawing. BIM has brought enormous improvement in construction costs and time saving, accuracy, alterations and reworks, and the avoidance of errors caused by loss of information. In the UK a high profile BIM press articles, seminars and workshops led up the construction strategy launch in May of which BIM was a central part and marked an important year for the construction industry.
