PC-DMIS Using Direct CAD Data | CMM Tech Tips - CMMXYZ

04:40
This Tech Tip Video from Canadian Measurement - Metrology shows you how to use Direct CAD Translator DCT and Direct CAD Interface DCI available in PC-DMIS. These tools will allow you to import CAD Files in to PC DMIS. These CAD interfaces include CATIA, Parasolid, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, Ideas and many more. We also offer a full comprehensive CMM E-Learning package that will allow you to learn PC-DMIS on line - http://www.cmmxyz.com/benefits-of-cmm-e-learning So there's been a number of questions regarding the Direct CAD Translators and direct CAD Interfaces that are available in PC-DMIS and the added capability they give the PC-DMIS programmer. So let's begin by looking at how these functions work. If we're posting in an IGES file, we're simply going to select file - Import, and we can select IGES from the Import menu. Now there are other CAD model types that you may not have used. For instance, CATIA, Parasolid, Pro/Engineer, Solid/Works, Unigraphics. Let's look at the CATIA interface first. And you'll notice that we have three CATIA interfaces now: CATIA 4, CATIA 5, and the latest version, CATIA 6. If we select CATIA 5, PC-DMIS is going to allow us to read the native CATIA format. PC-DMIS will then translate that data into CAD objects that it can understand. And in addition, PC-DMIS is going to read extra information that is attached to that CATIA model. For instance, we could read in the assembly. We could read in extra alignment information. And we can also read in embedded GD&T information in the form of captures. So we can see this CATIA model that's read in. It's a bracket of some type. But the benefit of using the CATIA model directly is this extra information. On my toolbar I have an icon that's labeled Coordinate System. And this gives me access to the built-in coordinate systems that are attached to this CATIA model. Let's select the icon and we can see a dialog that appears. And before I begin my programming, what I can do is I can select one of the built-in alignments. And as I select each of these different alignments, PC-DMIS moves the trihedron around to show me the direction of my coordinate system axis and the position of the zero. If I wish to begin programming using the alignment View A Axis System, I can select that alignment, hit apply, and we can now see that the trihedron has been migrated to the lower left-hand corner of my part. The other thing that I have access to is built in views that come along with this CAD model. If I select the view setup icon on the left-hand side of my graphics modes toolbar, you'll find these views by selecting the pull down in the dialog and then scrolling down to the appropriate saved view. I'm going to select View A and select Apply. PC-DMIS now displays the model using that saved View A. And this is just some of the information that can be attached to this model. Let's bring in another model that has GD&T information embedded. Now, the other method for getting our CATIA model into PC-DMIS is using something called the Direct CAD Interface. And we're going to find that right under the Import Option under File. You'll notice that there are direct CAD interfaces for a number of products. CATIA, CATIA 5, Ideas, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, and Unigraphics. And the way these interfaces work is they run the particular CAD software in the background. And it's the CAD software that's providing the CAD objects directly to PC-DMIS. So this means that there's no translation involved and no possible source of error resulting from that translation. So let's select the direct CAD interface for CATIA 5, and we'll select one of our models. About Canadian Measurement-Metrology Inc. Spatial Manipulation of a Autocad DXF File with Python3 and GeoPandas

28:31
In GIS the objects are related to a spatial location. Usually there is no need to modify a location since spatial data comes from field work or other surveys. When we work with CAD files as DXF (Autocad Drawing Exchange Format) files, sometimes the spatial data is available as a layout view and not as a model view. The layout data is on local coordinates, and at specific scale therefore we need to scale and translate the spatial data to “return” it to its original spatial location and extension. We tried to make this job with Inkscape and QGIS3, but we were unsuccessful to complete the scale and translation. While working with the DXF in Inkscape, each object selection, layer order combination, object ungrouping took several minutes and the results were poor. At the lowest motivational stage of this spatial request, we thought that it might me something in Python that can be useful for this. On a internet search, we found that the spatial version of the Pandas data analysis library: Geopandas was capable not only to open the DXF files, but also to scale, translate, and filter spatial data according to specific criteria. Geopandas is capable to export spatial data in different formats and to plot data interactively on a Jupyter Notebook. This tutorial shows the procedure to open a DXF file in Python pandas, perform scale and translation to place the spatial features on their original position, filter unwated objects on the layout view and export results to QGIS3 as shapefile. Input data You can download the input files for this tutorial here: https://www.hatarilabs.com/ih-en/spatial-manipulation-autocad-dxf-file-with-python3-and-geopandas

This and, to a lesser extent, its interchange file format DXF, have become de facto, if proprietary, standards for CAD data interoperability, particularly for 2D drawing exchange.[citation needed] AutoCAD has included support for .dwf, a format developed and promoted by Autodesk, for publishing CAD data. ESRI ArcMap 10 permits export as AutoCAD drawing files. Civil 3D permits export as AutoCAD objects and as LandXML. Third-party file convertersexist for specific formats such as Bentley MX GENIO Extension, PISTE Extension (France), ISYBAU (Germany), OKSTRA and Microdrainage(UK);[21] also, conversion of .pdf files is feasible, however, the accuracy of the results may be unpredictable or distorted. For example, jagged edges may appear. Several vendors provide online conversions for free such as Cometdocs.autoCAD commonly use in all purposes. For example, AutoCAD Architecture (formerly Architectural Desktop) permits architectural designers to draw 3D objects, such as walls, doors, and windows, with more intelligent data associated with them rather than simple objects, such as lines and circles. The data can be programmed to represent specific architectural products sold in the construction industry, or extracted into a data file for pricing, materials estimation, and other values related to the objects represented. Additional tools generate standard 2D drawings, such as elevations and sections, from a 3D architectural model. Similarly, Civil Design, Civil Design 3D, and Civil Design Professional support data-specific objects facilitating easy standard civil engineering calculations and representations. Civil 3D was originally developed as an AutoCAD add-on by a company in New Hampshire called Softdesk (originally DCA). Softdesk was acquired by Autodesk, and Civil 3D was further evolved.

This plugin displays a DXF file on your Wordpress post or page. DXF ,Drawing eXchange Format is industry standard format for CAD drawings. For DXF specifications: refer- http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/autocad_2012_pdf_dxf-reference_enu.pdf DXF is an Ascii file. You can create it by AutoCAD or a few other packages like LibreCAD or QCad. Some free samples of DXF files can be found online. This plugin uses javascript and fully works on client side and hence works at lightening speed. How to Use: This plugin requires the browser that supports HTML5 Canvas, most modern browsers do. After installation and Activation, you have to use shortcode "DXF" The starting page is loaded with some default DXF contents. Viewer of your post will see a black coloured rectangle and a button to select a DXF file on the client machine. Depending on the size of the DXF file, the file will be rendered in the black rectangle. For zooming, use mouse wheels, for panning click, hold and drag with the left mouse button. The links below the rendering area can be used to save the canvas as a JPG or PNG file. Cad2Print 2015 - DWG to PDF Conversion

05:47
Cad2Print 2015 - DWG to PDF Conversion now revealed!!! As the technology is changing by leaps and bounds, format conversion acts as the bridge between old technology and latest technology in vogue. It helps to convert file from one format to another according to the requirement. Online software is also available to convert file from one format to another and it can also be done manually. Conversion of files using software might result into mess of lines and dots but manual conversion is highly efficient and acceptable. About DXF file format DXF was developed by Autodesk in 1982. It is an abbreviation for Drawing Exchange Format, which is an open sourced CAD data file format. Its file extension is ".dxf". Data interoperability of 2D and 3D drawings could be enabled between AutoCAD and other programs through Drawing Exchange Format. Its latest version is "Release 14" and it supports both binary forms and ASCII. DXF file can represent almost all CAD drawings. For better handling of contour information, it has spline-based conversion of PS/PDF curves. It also consists of support for 3D objects, vector graphics and text fonts, options to remove or keep fills and hatches during conversion and last but not least, it is easy to parse. About DWG file format DWG is an abbreviation for Drawing Web File format. It is a binary file format developed to store two dimensional and three dimensional design data and metadata. Including AutoCAD, it is the native format for other several CAD packages. Problem with DXF file format Although it is featured with various facilities but it is not devoid of demerits. The major demerit of Drawing Exchange Format is its file size. Due to its greater file size, it is difficult to manage and results in making file transfer cumbersome. Benefits of DXF to DWG file conversion Conversion of file from DXF to DWG format makes file size three times lighter, which makes it easy to manage and transfer. Not only this, it also helps to maintain line-weights, colors and fonts. All these facilities make companies to convert their Drawing Exchange Format files into DWG files. Format conversion is made according to the requirement of the firm or company. Decision about format conversion can be taken on the basis of the features of the format. If the features of the format suit the utility of data then it can be kept in the same way otherwise format conversion is an option to make the better use of data. Converting AutoCAD Blocks to Civil 3D COGO Points the Easy Way

04:53
Read our blog post to convert AutoCAD Blocks to Civil 3D COGO Points at: http://www.caddmicrosystems.com/blog/2018/11/autocad-block-to-civil-3d-point/ ============================================= Points are integral to civil design. While exchange formats like LandXML exist and are certainly the preferred way to transfer points between platforms, getting such a file is not always an option. Sometimes we get whatever is sent to us, and we're forced to figure out some way to use it for our own design purposes. ## The Issue With AutoCAD Blocks In the context of points, it's not uncommon for this scenario to play out when not everyone on the team is using Civil 3D. Third-party civil applications will often place points as standard AutoCAD blocks. While Civil 3D does include a command to convert Softdesk Point Blocks to Civil 3D COGO Points, the command does not work on standard AutoCAD blocks. Unfortunately, Civil 3D does not provide a direct workflow to convert standard AutoCAD Blocks into Civil 3D COGO Points. Although no direct workflow exists, an indirect one does.  ## Finding a Civil 3D Solution The secret rests in converting the standard AutoCAD Blocks into a block Civil 3D will recognize as a Softdesk Point Block. If we can establish a single instance of a block Civil 3D will recognize as a Softdesk Point Block, we can then trick Civil 3D into thinking other (standard) AutoCAD Blocks are Softdesk Point Blocks. The above video demonstrates the click-by-click process, but the high-level workflow to accomplish this is as follows: 1. Create a single (dummy) COGO point in your Civil 3D drawing. I used Points, Create Points - Miscellaneous, Manual in the video. 2. Use the Create Blocks from COGO Points command to generate a Softdesk Point Block of your dummy COGO point. Civil 3D places a block atop the COGO point already in your drawing. Take note of the name - POINT in my video. 3. Start the Replace Block command on the Blocks panel of the Express Tools Ribbon tab. Start by selecting the standard AutoCAD block that represents the points you want to convert in your drawing, and then choose the dummy Softdesk Point Block created in the steps above. The Replace Block command replaces the original block with the Softdesk Point Block. 4. Choose the Points, Replace Softdesk Block Points command from the Create Surface Data panel of the Home Ribbon tab. Select the newly converted blocks in your drawing, and specify a numbering convention for the selected blocks. Once complete, you'll have Civil 3D COGO points derived from the standard AutoCAD blocks you started with.
