PC-DMIS Using Direct CAD Data | CMM Tech Tips - CMMXYZ

04:40
This Tech Tip Video from Canadian Measurement - Metrology shows you how to use Direct CAD Translator DCT and Direct CAD Interface DCI available in PC-DMIS. These tools will allow you to import CAD Files in to PC DMIS. These CAD interfaces include CATIA, Parasolid, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, Ideas and many more. We also offer a full comprehensive CMM E-Learning package that will allow you to learn PC-DMIS on line - http://www.cmmxyz.com/benefits-of-cmm-e-learning So there's been a number of questions regarding the Direct CAD Translators and direct CAD Interfaces that are available in PC-DMIS and the added capability they give the PC-DMIS programmer. So let's begin by looking at how these functions work. If we're posting in an IGES file, we're simply going to select file - Import, and we can select IGES from the Import menu. Now there are other CAD model types that you may not have used. For instance, CATIA, Parasolid, Pro/Engineer, Solid/Works, Unigraphics. Let's look at the CATIA interface first. And you'll notice that we have three CATIA interfaces now: CATIA 4, CATIA 5, and the latest version, CATIA 6. If we select CATIA 5, PC-DMIS is going to allow us to read the native CATIA format. PC-DMIS will then translate that data into CAD objects that it can understand. And in addition, PC-DMIS is going to read extra information that is attached to that CATIA model. For instance, we could read in the assembly. We could read in extra alignment information. And we can also read in embedded GD&T information in the form of captures. So we can see this CATIA model that's read in. It's a bracket of some type. But the benefit of using the CATIA model directly is this extra information. On my toolbar I have an icon that's labeled Coordinate System. And this gives me access to the built-in coordinate systems that are attached to this CATIA model. Let's select the icon and we can see a dialog that appears. And before I begin my programming, what I can do is I can select one of the built-in alignments. And as I select each of these different alignments, PC-DMIS moves the trihedron around to show me the direction of my coordinate system axis and the position of the zero. If I wish to begin programming using the alignment View A Axis System, I can select that alignment, hit apply, and we can now see that the trihedron has been migrated to the lower left-hand corner of my part. The other thing that I have access to is built in views that come along with this CAD model. If I select the view setup icon on the left-hand side of my graphics modes toolbar, you'll find these views by selecting the pull down in the dialog and then scrolling down to the appropriate saved view. I'm going to select View A and select Apply. PC-DMIS now displays the model using that saved View A. And this is just some of the information that can be attached to this model. Let's bring in another model that has GD&T information embedded. Now, the other method for getting our CATIA model into PC-DMIS is using something called the Direct CAD Interface. And we're going to find that right under the Import Option under File. You'll notice that there are direct CAD interfaces for a number of products. CATIA, CATIA 5, Ideas, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, and Unigraphics. And the way these interfaces work is they run the particular CAD software in the background. And it's the CAD software that's providing the CAD objects directly to PC-DMIS. So this means that there's no translation involved and no possible source of error resulting from that translation. So let's select the direct CAD interface for CATIA 5, and we'll select one of our models. About Canadian Measurement-Metrology Inc. Cad2Print 2015 - DWG to PDF Conversion

05:47
Cad2Print 2015 - DWG to PDF Conversion now revealed!!! As the technology is changing by leaps and bounds, format conversion acts as the bridge between old technology and latest technology in vogue. It helps to convert file from one format to another according to the requirement. Online software is also available to convert file from one format to another and it can also be done manually. Conversion of files using software might result into mess of lines and dots but manual conversion is highly efficient and acceptable. About DXF file format DXF was developed by Autodesk in 1982. It is an abbreviation for Drawing Exchange Format, which is an open sourced CAD data file format. Its file extension is ".dxf". Data interoperability of 2D and 3D drawings could be enabled between AutoCAD and other programs through Drawing Exchange Format. Its latest version is "Release 14" and it supports both binary forms and ASCII. DXF file can represent almost all CAD drawings. For better handling of contour information, it has spline-based conversion of PS/PDF curves. It also consists of support for 3D objects, vector graphics and text fonts, options to remove or keep fills and hatches during conversion and last but not least, it is easy to parse. About DWG file format DWG is an abbreviation for Drawing Web File format. It is a binary file format developed to store two dimensional and three dimensional design data and metadata. Including AutoCAD, it is the native format for other several CAD packages. Problem with DXF file format Although it is featured with various facilities but it is not devoid of demerits. The major demerit of Drawing Exchange Format is its file size. Due to its greater file size, it is difficult to manage and results in making file transfer cumbersome. Benefits of DXF to DWG file conversion Conversion of file from DXF to DWG format makes file size three times lighter, which makes it easy to manage and transfer. Not only this, it also helps to maintain line-weights, colors and fonts. All these facilities make companies to convert their Drawing Exchange Format files into DWG files. Format conversion is made according to the requirement of the firm or company. Decision about format conversion can be taken on the basis of the features of the format. If the features of the format suit the utility of data then it can be kept in the same way otherwise format conversion is an option to make the better use of data. AutoCAD is used across a wide range of industries, by architects, project managers, engineers, graphic designers, town planners and many other professionals. It was supported by 750 training centers worldwide in 1994.[1] AutoCAD was derived from a program begun in 1977 and released in 1979[4] called Interact CAD,[5][6][7] also referred to in early Autodesk documents as MicroCAD, which was written prior to Autodesk's (then Marinchip Software Partners) formation by Autodesk cofounder Michael Riddle.[8][9] The first version by Autodesk was demonstrated at the 1982 Comdex and released that December.[10]As Autodesk's flagship product, by March 1986 AutoCAD had become the most ubiquitous CAD program worldwide.[11] The 2019 release marked the 33rd major release of AutoCAD for Windows. The 2014 release marked the fourth consecutive year of AutoCAD for Mac. Version history The native file format of AutoCAD is .dwg. Import points into AutoCAD - Spatial Manager TP

07:14
This technical page describes how to Import points into AutoCAD. Point features in spatial data systems may represent different types of elements from the real world. These elements may be real objects (hydrants, containers, streetlights, etc.) or fictitious points (milestones, locations, addresses, etc.) Most file formats and spatial servers include in some way the possibility to store information about Points. Some of them can only save basic data, such as the Point coordinates and slightly more data in the ASCII CSV standard formats, but most systems include information, usually alphanumeric data, associated with the Points Common containers to store Points features As already stated, there are many spatial systems to store Points information, but in the following list you can find some of the most common: · Point ESRI Shape files (SHP) · Google Earth files (KML/KMZ) · GPS exchange format files (GPX) · ASCII text files (CSV, TXT, XYZ, UPT, etc.) - data limited · MS Excel files (XLS) · MS Access files (MDB) · PostGIS databases · MS SQL Server Spatial databases Import points into AutoCAD - KML Signals in Google EarthSignal Points of a city stored in a KML file Point features to CAD CAD applications users often need to import Point features into their drawings, and the content of the data usually comes from very diverse sources: GPS generic data, surveying data, etc. AutoCAD, being one of the popular applications in the CAD market, only allows importing points from other CAD or MCAD applications, but leaves out all the common formats and data servers to handle spatial data Import Points into AutoCAD Spatial Manager™ for AutoCAD includes many powerful "AutoCAD Import Points" data providers to import points into AutoCAD. The providers allow you to access the most usual file formats and spatial data servers in which you can find spatial Point data Import points into AutoCAD - Point sources in Spatial Manager™ for AutoCADImporting Points into AutoCAD - Selecting the source (and the data provider) When importing the Points, you can choose between AutoCAD Point objects or Block references as imported objects, and many other interesting drawing options through the import process You can also perform a coordinate transformation "on the fly" when importing the Points. The coordinate transformation is an important issue to consider in Spatial Manager™ for AutoCAD when importing Points because a lot of coordinate data comes from GPS devices or similar. Thus the coordinate data is formatted using Latitude and Longitude values and the users uusually need to import the data usually to projected coordinates in the DWG drawing Example: AutoCAD imports Points This example shows how to Import from different Point sources (KML, SHP, OSM - OpenStreetMap - and GPX) into AutoCAD. We will import a set of Point features into a drawing of a city, using AutoCAD Block References including Attributes to catch various alphanumeric data Watch this video to see how to Import Points into AutoCAD

Import OpenStreetMap data into AutoCAD drawings - Spatial Manager Blog

03:58
Many AutoCAD users, such as architects, surveyors, engineers, etc., often need access to territorial information as a basis for their own projects or their work related in some way to the territory OpenStreetMap community has this kind of spatial information, which is freely available, supported by thousands of users worldwide and continuously updated (see the previous post in this Blog) Spatial Manager™ for AutoCAD includes, as other products in the Spatial Manager™ suite, its own data provider to access the information in OpenStreetMap and import it as graphical objects and alphanumeric data (EED) In this example, by using the search and navigation tools in the main OpenStreetMap website, we locate the spatial information relating to a given city and the search process is focused on a specific area of the city. Then, from this website, the information is exported to an OSM file which will be used in Spatial Manager™ for AutoCAD to import OpenStreetMap data into an AutoCAD drawing The information to be imported into AutoCAD from the OSM file is segmented. First, the buildings are imported and automatically separated into different AutoCAD layers, according to their build type. Then, the routes are imported into another Layer Also, we configure the application to perform a Coordinate Transformation to project the objects over the import process (OpenStreetMap information is defined using the WGS 84 Latitude-Longitude system -- EPSG: 4326) Please, watch the video
