Why is oil priced/traded in USA dollars?

02:52
Why is oil priced/traded in USA dollars? Is a strong dollar bearish for the oil price? Why? Gaurav Sharma, an Independent Energy Analyst comments. A global commodity requires a global reserve currency. Historically oil prices were priced in pounds sterling in the day of the Empire when the UK was trading with three quarters of the world. Slowly the global scenario changed and the USA dollar emerged as the global reserve currency, and it was fairly obvious that the oil markets would turn to USD $. At one point during the financial crisis, some OPEC members even suggested the adoption of the EUR If you've found this video useful, please click the like button and share it with your friends and remember to SUBSCRIBE to remain up-to-date!

How's the strong USD affecting your commodity trading?

03:12
http://goo.gl/8kz9Gf Another disappointing week for commodities. Starting with crude and Saxo's Ole Hansen says it's stuck in a range and as a result, volatility has started to come down. He says Friday's non farm payrolls could be the trigger that takes us out of the range. Moving to gold and Hansen says the precious metal has fallen by the same amount that the strong dollar has risen. Again he says it's stuck in a range but he does note that supporting news is coming from negative rates in Europe. Silver too has been caught out by the strong dollar. This Friday morning it broke the 16.08 level and has been trading down to 15.92.

How the U.S. Dollar Impacts Other Currencies, Commodities, Oil & Gold - Forex (2009)

29:39
The 6th paragraph of Section 8 of Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution provides that the U.S. Congress shall have the power to "coin money" and to "regulate the value" of domestic and foreign coins. Congress exercised those powers when it enacted the Coinage Act of 1792. That Act provided for the minting of the first U.S. dollar and it declared that the U.S. dollar shall have "the value of a Spanish milled dollar as the same is now current". The table to the right shows the equivalent amount of goods that, in a particular year, could be purchased with $1. The table shows that from 1774 through 2012 the U.S. dollar has lost about 97.0% of its buying power.[60] The decline in the value of the U.S. dollar corresponds to price inflation, which is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time.[61] A consumer price index (CPI) is a measure estimating the average price of consumer goods and services purchased by households. The United States Consumer Price Index, published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, is a measure estimating the average price of consumer goods and services in the United States.[62] It reflects inflation as experienced by consumers in their day-to-day living expenses.[63] A graph showing the U.S. CPI relative to 1982–1984 and the annual year-over-year change in CPI is shown at right. The value of the U.S. dollar declined significantly during wartime, especially during the American Civil War, World War I, and World War II.[64] The Federal Reserve, which was established in 1913, was designed to furnish an "elastic" currency subject to "substantial changes of quantity over short periods", which differed significantly from previous forms of high-powered money such as gold, national bank notes, and silver coins.[65] Over the very long run, the prior gold standard kept prices stable—for instance, the price level and the value of the U.S. dollar in 1914 was not very different from the price level in the 1880s. The Federal Reserve initially succeeded in maintaining the value of the U.S. dollar and price stability, reversing the inflation caused by the First World War and stabilizing the value of the dollar during the 1920s, before presiding over a 30% deflation in U.S. prices in the 1930s.[66] Under the Bretton Woods system established after World War II, the value of gold was fixed to $35 per ounce, and the value of the U.S. dollar was thus anchored to the value of gold. Rising government spending in the 1960s, however, led to doubts about the ability of the United States to maintain this convertibility, gold stocks dwindled as banks and international investors began to convert dollars to gold, and as a result the value of the dollar began to decline. Facing an emerging currency crisis and the imminent danger that the United States would no longer be able to redeem dollars for gold, gold convertibility was finally terminated in 1971 by President Nixon, resulting in the "Nixon shock".[67] The value of the U.S. dollar was therefore no longer anchored to gold, and it fell upon the Federal Reserve to maintain the value of the U.S. currency. The Federal Reserve, however, continued to increase the money supply, resulting in stagflation and a rapidly declining value of the U.S. dollar in the 1970s. This was largely due to the prevailing economic view at the time that inflation and real economic growth were linked (the Phillips curve), and so inflation was regarded as relatively benign.[67] Between 1965 and 1981, the U.S. dollar lost two thirds of its value.[60] In 1979, President Carter appointed Paul Volcker Chairman of the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve tightened the money supply and inflation was substantially lower in the 1980s, and hence the value of the U.S. dollar stabilized.[67] Over the thirty-year period from 1981 to 2009, the U.S. dollar lost over half its value.[60] This is because the Federal Reserve has targeted not zero inflation, but a low, stable rate of inflation—between 1987 and 1997, the rate of inflation was approximately 3.5%, and between 1997 and 2007 it was approximately 2%. The so-called "Great Moderation" of economic conditions since the 1970s is credited to monetary policy targeting price stability.[67] There is ongoing debate about whether central banks should target zero inflation (which would mean a constant value for the U.S. dollar over time) or low, stable inflation (which would mean a continuously but slowly declining value of the dollar over time, as is the case now). Although some economists are in favor of a zero inflation policy and therefore a constant value for the U.S. dollar,[66] others contend that such a policy limits the ability of the central bank to control interest rates and stimulate the economy when needed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar#Value

US Dollar Index – Why Use It With Forex? DOWNLOAD THIS POST AS A PDF - CLICK HERE - If you trade Forex, you don’t need anybody to tell you that many of the popular currency pairs are in conditions at this time that can be tough to trade. Yes, you can emotionally trade and maybe get a winner, but for the past several weeks, finding great reasons to trade haven’t existed. There’s been choppy price action, low volatility, momentum appearing and disappearing, and all of that combined does not make our job easier. There is a tell-tale sign that conditions are not great and for that, we can look at the US Dollar Index. Dollar Index – Barometer Of Stormy Trading Conditions For those of you that are unaware, the US dollar index measures the USD against a 6 other currencies. Inside that basket, the EURUSD makes up the bulk of the measure. The top 3 currency pairs inside the basket are: EURO Japanese Yen British Pound Those currency pairs are matched up against the USD and form the bulk of the trading activity that happens in Forex. - See more at: https://www.netpicks.com/us-dollar-index/ Risk Disclosures: https://www.netpicks.com/risk-disclosure/

Commodities on 29.11.2018: BRENT, WTI, USD/RUB, USD/CAD

02:16
Nothing can prevent oil prices from falling. The report from the Energy Information Administration has only reinforced a further decline in quotes. The official data showed a weekly rise in the stockpiles of crude oil of 3 million 577 thousand barrels. Though market participants expected a slower increase, they were not surprised by the published figures. So, they just continued selling oil futures. WTI crude benchmark retreated from the level of 50 dollars per barrel and is now trading slightly below this mark. Brent crude benchmark also came off the level at 59 dollars per barrel and is heading lower more actively. Reportedly, the OPEC and non-OPEC states are ready to cut the output in order to balance the oil market. However, this news did not encourage investors to buy oil futures ahead of the G20 summit. Forex traders are also waiting for this event. The US dollar lost momentum amid comments of Jerome Powell, so other major currencies managed to offset losses. The commodity currencies also benefited from the greenback’s weakness. The dollar-ruble pair declined and settled near 66.70. However, the ruble’s rise is limited by the political factors regarding Ukraine and uncertainty over the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. At the same time, loonie traders are cautious today. The USD/CAD pair plunged by almost 1%, but then retreated slightly, settling near the level of 1.3285. As for now, the commodity assets totally depend on the US dollar. Therefore, as soon as the key political event takes place tomorrow, traders can change their choice. Trade Using Market Correlation

Correlations between the world's most heavily traded commodities and currency pairs are common. For example, the Japanese Yen (/6J) has exhibited a high negative correlation to the S&P 500 (SPX) over the last few years. We can use market correlations like this to gain a better understanding of how the overall markets work and help in our trading decisions. Jim Rogers - How He Became a Commodities Trader

09:35
For the latest Jim Rogers, go to http://JimRogersBlog.com - In the investment business, Jim Rogers invested in everything both long and short. He came from a rural part of Alabama, but his family weren't farmers. He began investing in commodities because it looked like that was the major bull market at the time. When it was time to invest in commodities at that time, there weren't any proper indexes to invest in. Because of that, Jim Rogers had to sit down and create his own index that reflected the cost to live all around the world. Dow Jones didn't even know that they had a commodities index. You shouldn't put a penny of your money there. At times, the investment banks had huge commitments to commodities. They got out during the 80s and 90s because there was a bear market. Now they are starting to come back. The go to whatever is hot because that is what is easy to sell. In 5, 10, 15 years, they will come back to commodities in a big way. By definition, rising prices is inflation. Central banks are printing huge amounts of money all over the world. There are supply demand imbalances compounded by the central bank printing money. Who knows what will happen at the end of the bull run. At the end of bull markets, things get wild and hysteria. When prices get so extraordinarily high, that will reduce demand, and that is one of the factors that will lead to the end of the bull market. Normally, Jim Rogers has gotten out too soon, because he can see what is happening. But the prices can double very quickly at the end of a bull market. But it is the most dangerous part of the bull market. The US Dollar is a terribly flawed currency. It is going into its demise over the next couple decades. That commodities are traded in dollars will be a factor on their prices. 100 years ago commodities were traded in the Pound Sterling. But that changed, and now they are traded in the dollar. That too will change. India and China have 2.3 billion people, but their economies combined are still only a tenth of the size of the US and Western Europe. So they aren't as big of a factor right now, but that will slowly change.

Commodities and Currency Exchange Rate

04:19
http://www.forexconspiracyreport.com/commodities-and-currency-exchange-rate/ Commodities and Currency Exchange Rate By www.ForexConspiracyReport.com According to Bloomberg currencies of commodity exporters are falling as raw material demand from China falls off. Currencies of commodity-exporting nations including Australia fell as a gauge of raw materials slid to a five-year low on speculation demand will drop after China signaled slower economic growth. The Australian dollar sank to a seven-month low against its U.S. counterpart, dropping against most of its 31 major peers. South Africa’s rand and Brazil’s real weakened, and an index of emerging-market currencies reached the lowest level since 2009. Commodities and currency exchange rate are connected because a major source of income for nations like Brazil, South Africa and Australia is selling their raw materials to nations like China. As the Chinese economy slows so do those of their raw material suppliers and commodities and exchange rate are so connected that the real, rand and Aussie dollar are taking a hit as well. Australia Coal Exports and Pollution Control Efforts in China The Sidney Morning Herald notes that there is an Australian export risk due to an impending ban on dirty coal in China. Australian coal exporters are scrambling to clarify the fallout from changes to China's coal import rules, which could expose the industry to billions of dollars in lost sales as China seeks to cut air pollution. The Chinese government is to limit the use of imported coal with more than 16 per cent ash and 3 per cent sulfur from January 1, 2015, in a bid to improve air quality, especially in the major cities such as Beijing and around Shanghai. Apparently the only issue tying commodities and exchange rate for the Aussies is not just a fall off in Chinese manufacturing. Pollution in major Chinese cities has become a big issue and may be a driving force to reduce imports of low quality coal. The net effect for Australia either way will be a reduction in exports and a hit to the AUD. Trading Exporter Currencies The Financial Times reports that the export dip weighs on Australian growth. Australia’s economy slowed in the three months to end of June as a dip in exports cooled growth that had reached its fastest pace in two years during the previous quarter. Official figures on Wednesday showed gross domestic product had risen 0.5 per cent in the second quarter, slightly above analysts’ expectations but below the 1.1 per cent rate recorded three months earlier. Year-on-year growth moderated to 3.1 per cent over the financial year to June 30, against 3.5 per cent on the previous quarter, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. A ten percent fall in economic growth is sufficient to drag down the value of the Aussie dollar because of the connection of commodities and currency exchange rate. Trading Exporter Nation Currencies To profit in Forex trading from the connection between commodities and currency exchange rate the trader needs to follow the world of commodities and commodity trading. Many times options traded on commodities give a hint as to where commodity values are going. And knowing who produces what and who they sell it to will help a trader make money in the world of commodities and currency exchange rate fluctuations. http://youtu.be/IH-FT2LIS9k

Hardy: How I'm trading commodity currencies as gold oil prices tank

03:04
With WTI crude trading close to USD 50 and gold hitting a five-year low, Saxo Bank’s John Hardy says low commodity prices are starting to be felt in FX markets. If prices continue to tank, it could have big implications, he says. Commodity currencies like CAD and NZD have already been hit by the slump in commodity prices and, Hardy expects AUD could be next, saying the market is complacent about the Reserve Bank of Australia’s desire to see a weaker Aussie. Hardy has paired four commodity currencies with the G4, and looks at how they could be traded as low commodity prices starts to drive inflation down which could impact monetary policies.

But materials of daily use are also great investment options. Some examples are commodities like cotton, wheat, and copper. Commodities play a key role in spurring economic growth. They connect countries through trade and commerce. Like stocks, commodities trade as investment instruments at commodities markets around the world. In fact, these markets complete trades worth billions of dollars each day. Commodities market traders come from diverse backgrounds. They can be farmers who want to protect themselves from falling food grain prices, or brokerage houses who want to make big profits for their clients. They may also be business owners who use commodities as production inputs. They trade in commodity futures to protect themselves from an increase in the price of their input commodities. Whatever your interest may be – risk minimization or profit maximisation – the commodity futures market can cater to it. Commodity Futures also have some structural attributes that make them an important component of an investor’s portfolios. One of these attributes is that they let you take bigger positions than your means allow. Taking bigger positions means that investing the same amount in commodities can earn you higher returns than investing it in a conventional investment option. In India, commodity trading is relatively new. The country’s two biggest commodity exchanges only came up in 2003. But individuals and institutions are fast realising the benefits of commodities trading. An increasing number of investors are now setting aside a portion of their investment portfolio for commodities trading. At present, commodities can be traded on three national-level exchanges in the country: Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX), National Commodity and Derivative Exchange (NCDEX) and National Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (NMCE). There are also 21 smaller exchanges that offer commodities trading at the regional level. The annual turnover of India’s five leading commodities exchanges stands at over Rs. 65 lakh crore.

Click here to talk to us on WhatsApp: https://traderoomplus.com/s/wa Click here to talk to use on Telegram: https://t.me/traderoomplus We're often asked, 'What are the best Forex pairs to trade and why?' In this concise video, we answer those questions by looking at the best Forex pairs to trades and why. It'll provide you with three pairs which to learn to trade and also the most relevant news and events to look at. The Forex market is the most liquid market in the world with other 5 trillion $ traded per day. This video is best for: Beginners looking to learn about profitable Forex trading, Traders deciding which Forex / currency pairs to trade, Traders wanting to understand what moves the Forex markets, Forex traders looking for help, Contents: - Why people trade Forex, - The major world currencies, - Forex basics, - What moves Forex markets? - EUR/USD, - USD/JPY, - GBP/USD (Cable), - Conclusions. There are many pairs of currencies to choose from as you can see here. With many markets, comes many opportunities. The Forex markets are nearly open 24 hours per day from Sunday evening to Friday night. Because the markets are nearly continuously open, it allows a trader to focus upon currency pairs which suit their own personal circumstances and work / life balance. There are different economic drivers for different currency pairs. For example if you like to trade commodities like oil, you may like currency pairs which are linked to oil trading. Forex pairs are highly technical in nature and favoured by technical analysts. If you need to know more about technical analysis, click here to see our video on the best technical indicators for trading. These are the four major world currencies, the Pound, the US Dollar, the Euro and the Japanese Yen. You should always aim to trade currency pairs which has one of these currencies within them. Some basics: Forex and Currency trading are used interchangeably and mean the same thing. The currency displayed on the left is the ‘base currency’. So if you see this pair, with the Pound on the left and the US Dollar on the right – the currency pair known as ‘cable’ – you now the base currency is the pound. The currency on the right is called the ‘counter currency’. What you are betting on is whether or not the base currency will strengthen, or weaken, against the counter currency. For example, if you think the Pound will strengthen against the US Dollar and increase in value, then you would go long. What moves the Forex markets? It depends on which pair you’re looking at. The top 5 we recommend are primarily concerned with the activities of the major central banks. Central banks control monetary policy, affect inflation and employment and set interest rates. The Federal reserve in the United States has major influence over currency pairs involving the US Dollar. FOMC meetings are held 8 times per year and particular focus is upon interest rate policy. Make sure you know when these meetings occur. The Bank Of England is the central bank based in London. Meetings are regular and inflation rates are especially important to the Bank Of England as it sets an annual benchmark and target to keep inflation at a set figure. Deviations away from this figure can trigger intervention including interest rate rises and falls which cause volatility for currency pairs with Pound within them. The bank of Japan meets around 12 times per year and carries out many of the same functions as the other central banks we have mentioned. Anyone based in the UK or Europe should take note of when the meetings will occur and consider their trades and exposure if they are trading any currency pair containing the Yen. The top 3 pairs we like to look for opportunities upon are the currency pairs that are traded the most. There’s a reason they are traded the most, because they are the best to trade. With them being traded the most, it means they are the most liquid, meaning less risk of big gaps and not being filled by your broker, and you will also receive a tighter spread with your broker. The pairs offer near 24/7 trading and there are key events most traders can be around for, including the FTSE and European open, as well as the US open and close. Which is the easiest FX pair to trade? What is the best Forex pair? Most profitable Forex pair Most profitable FX pair Best currency pair Forex trading for beginners

If one micro lot of the EUR/USD is being traded, each pip would be worth $0.1, as opposed to $10 for a standard lot. The following are the quantities typically used in the forex market: A standard lot = 100,000 units of base currency. A mini lot = 10,000 units of base currency. Spot forex was only traded in specific amounts called lots, or basically the number of currency units you will buy or sell. The standard size for a lot is 100,000 units of currency, and now, there are also a mini, micro, and nano lot sizes that are 10,000, 1,000, and 100 units respectively. A Margin Requirement is the percentage of marginable securities that an investor must pay for with his/her own cash. It can be further broken down into Initial Margin Requirement and Maintenance Margin Requirement. This video runs through some of the key economic releases lined up this week, including minutes from the last FOMC meeting. Unexpectedly dovish forward guidance in the Fed's policy statement from that meeting helped give a brief boost to EUR/USD at the end of January, but since then the FX pair has declined markedly, falling to new three-month lows last week. easyMarkets - Discover Trading - GOLD

04:30
For more info: http://www.easymarkets.com/gtw/6288142.aspx The modern day world presents us with an environment which is overly noisy and congested. The international markets are often no different. However, like in life, if you can take the time to clear you head and focus to understand what traded instruments actual are and what drives them, then you can often see a clearer picture. This is often how I approach the markets. Hi my name is James; I would like you to join ME as I look into discovering the markets. Today’s subject, I will be focusing on one of the most traded commodities in the forex market and that is GOLD, with the hope that at the end of this video you will have a more of an understanding of the driving factors behind this yellow metal. Now, there is an old wall street saying, “Put 10% of your net worth into gold and hope it doesn’t go up”. As when gold flies, it often means things are going wrong elsewhere. However, though this saying really relates to the physical gold market, today we are looking at the GOLD spot market though this principle can also relate to the spot market, the spot market is in many ways very different. Gold spot is a trading instrument which you can trade practically 24 hours a day on the forex market. Unlike its physical counterpart where you have to purchase gold from a licenced distributor or licenced exchange and make arrangements for receiving and storing it and find either a buyer and seller; with spot you are simply speculating on the price movements, where if you get the direction right you can benefit from both buying and selling it. Now one of the first things, many market analysts will always say about gold, is that it is a safe haven. Now a safe haven is an investment that is expected to retain its value or increase its value during times of market uncertainty. With this in mind, the market often looks towards Gold when there is a lack in confidence in currencies and higher risk assets groups such as indices. Due to this, the market often tends to monitor the performance of indices (TXT ON SCREEN: S&P500, FTSE, the DAX, DJIA and the NIKKEI), as in the past if they have fallen, you could see GOLD prices rise and vice versa if these instruments have risen in value. Now though gold is traded against other major currencies, the key relationship has always been with the USD, which can be dated back to the Bretton Woods agreement established in 1944. Though this agreement was ended in 1971, you can often see the love and hate relationship between the two. Over the long term, a declining dollar has often meant a rise in gold prices. In the short term, this is not always true and though there is a special relationship between the USD and gold, gold is a global commodity and the price of the metal can often reflect the global sentiment, that’s why it has often shined for investors during times of both political unrest and conflict. But there is no doubt USD strength can play a major role in the value of gold so here are some key economic indicators from the US you have to keep in mind. US Initial Jobless claims Consumer Price Index US GDP FOMC announcements FED Base rate decisions US Non-Farm Payroll. Also another fundamental issue to bare in mind, is though we are talking about GOLD CFD’s, Gold is still a physical commodity and prices can be effected by supply and demand, so it’s often a good idea of being aware of the amount of supply coming from exporters of GOLD as well as the demand there is from the major central banks in the world. So in Final analysis, the key areas you need to be aware of when looking at gold is as follows: Global economic sentiment Performance of the stock market. Global political issues and conflict. The special relationship with the USD Key US Economic indicators. Supply and demand for Gold. Join me next time as I take a look at some key technical analysis behind GOLD as well as placing a trade. For now, thanks for watching and you trade safe.

US Dollar Versus Oil

05:12
http://www.forexconspiracyreport.com/us-dollar-versus-oil/ - US Dollar versus Oil - There is commonly an inverse relationship of the US dollar versus oil. On hopeful news the other day that Europe may be on the way to solving its debt crisis, the Euro rose, the dollar fell, and commodities, including oil, rallied. Remember that commodities like crude oil are commonly quoted in US dollars. When the US dollar weakens it does not necessarily mean that there is less demand for crude oil. Thus, as dollar falls, the price of oil often adjusts, upward. Many trading foreign currencies watch oil prices as indications of where the dollar is going and exchange rates of the dollar versus other currencies to anticipate where oil prices are going. Another aspect of the US dollar versus oil prices is that the US economy is the largest in the world. If industrial production is down in the USA the demand for oil falls as well. A weaker US economy commonly leads to both a weaker dollar and lower oil prices. The producers and users of commodities such as oil and its products of distillation commonly trade options on Forex contracts in order to hedge the currency risk of international transactions. The variation of the US dollar versus oil and versus other currencies can be dramatic over the several months that may elapse between signing of a contract and delivery of crude oil, gasoline, or aviation fuel. Traders may simply trade options on Forex contracts or they may trade options on oil futures. Doing so successfully can make the difference between a satisfactory price for a product and a devastatingly high or low price, depending upon whether one is a producer or customer. Not all of the US dollar versus oil relationship has to do with the strength of the dollar or demand based upon the health of the US and global economy. Supply is also an issue. In fact it is an issue for both dollars and oil. First of all oil supply can be precarious. Civil unrest in Nigeria can shut down production, the civil war in Libya certainly did, and the unrest in Egypt and overthrow of long term president Mubarak threatened to close down shipments through the Suez Canal. Today Iran threatens to close the Straits of Hormuz through which an eighth of the world's oil supply flows. The US Navy patrols the area and sends battle groups through the straits in a show of force. If tensions rise in the region oil prices could skyrocket and not based on a US dollar versus oil formula, simply based upon scarcity. Interestingly, the supply of US dollars is rising. As part of the Bernanke Doctrine the US Federal Reserve is buying US treasuries in an effort to keep interest rates low. They are doing so with printed money. The world lost trillions of dollars in equity during the 2008 market crash and its aftermath. Housing values are down. Stocks are down. By printing currency both the US and EU are staving off the second dip of the worst recession in three quarters of a century and striving to keep nations like Greece, Italy, Spain, and even France from defaulting on their national debts. The question here regarding the US dollar versus oil is if twice as many dollars floating around will devalue the dollar and make oil spectacularly more expensive. http://youtu.be/s_43107OYfM

The Pit | PBS America

02:44
The Pit - premieres 10.15pm, Friday 20 June on PBS America (Sky 534 & Virgin Media 243) Johanna Lee's documentary goes on to the floor of the New York Board of Trade, an exchange in Manhattan in which goods worth billions of dollars are traded daily, setting the price of a range of commodities from cotton to orange juice. The bear-pit atmosphere on the floor of the exchange is a microcosm of ritualised capitalism. Traders make and lose fortunes every day, frequently using their own money. For the self- employed, there is no job security, no insurance and no health benefits. The traders come from all walks of life, from the Ivy League educated to the Brooklyn streetwise. Many have been there for decades, and new people arrive every day in a bid to become part of the club, despite the enormous risks in a business where the rate of attrition is 90% and only the strong survive. So what is it that drives traders to keep coming in, even when they have more money than they could ever spend -- and what price do they pay for spending their working lives in such an adrenaline-fuelled atmosphere? The programme follows the traders as they have good days and bad, visiting their homes and observing how the daily stress of their chosen profession affects their relationships. Finally, the film looks at the changes and the different skills involved as transactions are increasingly conducted electronically.

Text Courtesy Of Wikipedia In the late 1990s CFDs were first introduced to retail traders. They were popularised by a number of UK companies, whose offerings were typically characterised by innovative online trading platforms that made it easy to see live prices and trade in real time. The first company to do this was GNI (originally known as Gerrard & National Intercommodities); GNI and its CFD trading service GNI touch was later acquired by MF Global. They were soon followed by IG Markets and CMC Markets who started to popularise the product in 2000. It was around 2000 that retail traders realised that the real benefit of trading CFDs was not the exemption from stamp tax but the ability to trade on leverage on any underlying instrument. This was the start of the growth phase in the use of CFDs. The CFD providers quickly responded and expanded their product offering from just London Stock Exchange (LSE) shares to include indices, many global stocks, commodities, bonds, and currencies. Trading index CFDs, such as the ones based on the major global indexes e.g. Dow Jones, NASDAQ, S&P 500, FTSE, DAX, and CAC, quickly became the most popular type of CFD that were traded. Around 2001 a number of the CFD providers realised that CFDs have the same economic effect as financial spread betting except that the tax regime was different, making it in effect tax free for clients. Most CFD providers launched financial spread betting operations in parallel to their CFD offering. In the UK the CFD market mirrors the financial spread betting market and the products are in many ways the same. However unlike CFDs which have been exported to a number of different countries, spread betting relying on a country specific tax advantage has remained primarily a UK and Irish phenomenon. The CFD providers started to expand to overseas markets with CFDs being first introduced to Australia in July 2002 by IG Markets and CMC Markets. CFDs have since been introduced into a number of other countries; see list above. Until 2007 CFDs had been traded exclusively over-the-counter (OTC); however, on 5 November 2007 the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) listed exchange-traded CFDs on the top 50 Australian stocks, 8 FX pairs, key global indices and some commodities. There were originally 12 brokers offering ASX CFDs, but as of 2009 there are only five. In June 2009, the UK regulator the Financial Services Authority (FSA) implemented a general disclosure regime for CFDs to avoid them being used in insider information cases.[3] This was after a number of high profile cases where positions in CFDs were used instead of physical underlying stock to hide them from the normal disclosure rules related to insider information.[4 .Exchange-traded binary options In 2007, the Options Clearing Corporation proposed a rule change to allow binary options,[1] and the Securities and Exchange Commission approved listing cash-or-nothing binary options in 2008.[2] In May 2008, the American Stock Exchange (Amex) launched exchange-traded European cash-or-nothing binary options, and the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) followed in June 2008. The standardization of binary options allows them to be exchange-traded with continuous quotations. Amex offers binary options on some ETFs and a few highly liquid equities such as Citigroup and Google.[3] Amex calls binary options "Fixed Return Options"; calls are named "Finish High" and puts are named "Finish Low". To reduce the threat of market manipulation of single stocks, Amex FROs use a "settlement index" defined as a volume-weighted average of trades on the expiration day.[4] The American Stock Exchange and Donato A. Montanaro submitted a patent application for exchange-listed binary options using a volume-weighted settlement index in

Trading the AUD

03:10
http://www.theforexnittygritty.com/ - Trading the AUD - Forex traders trading the AUD do well to keep their eye on the commodities markets, specifically coal, iron ore, copper, gold, natural gas, wheat, cattle and uranium. Australia is a large island nation (sixth largest in the world) with a relatively small population (22 million being number 55 in the world. It is blessed with abundant natural resources and proximity to the growing industrial powers of Asia. Thus Australia only suffered one quarter of negative growth during the current worldwide recession and has seen its currency, the Australian dollar -- AUD -- go up from 1.3285 to the USD in 2006 to 1.0902 to the USD in 2010 (CIA Factbook). How to trade currency such as the AUD always has to do with understanding the fundamentals that drive currency rates. Trading the AUD also has to do with reading market sentiment as the actions of many traders and businesses hedging currency risk come together to create a market price. The proximity of China, Japan, and Korea, especially, to Australia and its natural resources provides the Australian economy with advantages that can result in the ascent of the AUD. This ascent may not be only versus the USD, EURO, and YEN but against the Chinese Yuan. The perception of continued growth lends itself to profits for those who understand day by day market sentiment in trading the AUD. Trading the AUD can be similar to trading the Real - BRL, Rupee - INR, Yuan - CNY, or Ruble - RUB. Brazil, India, China, and Russia all have growing economies. These nations also have economies that are substantially smaller than that of the USA or the EU. This situation gives these nations substantial room to grow and prosper. In trading the AUD it is not important that there are a lot more US dollars or Euros than Australian dollars in the world. The only important factor for those trading the AUD is the relative value of a currently falling EURO versus a rising Australian dollar or the recent strengthening of the USD dollar against the Australian dollar. Although the AUD is commonly quoted against the USD it can be traded against any major currency, including the Yen, Euro, Swiss franc - CHF, British Pound - GBP, or Canadian Dollar - CAD. Trading the AUD against another generally rising currency such as the Real, Rupee, or Yuan will typically not be as profitable as trading the AUD against a currency that is in trouble, such as is the case with the EURO today. A Forex trader considering how to short the EUR may, at times, do better shorting the Euro against the AUD than against the USD. A long term consideration in trading the AUD is that Australia is a net exporter of both raw commodities such as coal and wheat as well as an exporter of finished products such as steel and processed meats. As Asia leads the world out of the recession Australia is ideally situated to do business with and China, Japan, and Korea as well as other prosperous Asian nations like Singapore and Taiwan or the most populous Islamic nation in the world, Indonesia. As always we are not suggesting that traders buy or sell AUD but offer an example of thinking through the fundamentals of a major world currency. Trading the AUD can be profitable but a successful Forex trading system requires thoughtful preparation, discipline, and timing.
