Uzbek money: It's easy to feel rich in Uzbekistan

01:57
Money is a complicated issue in Uzbekistan, due to the black market. The official rate of the Uzbek som is kept artificially high, and so everyone uses the black market, where your dollars get you approximately 30% more som. And it's easy to feel rich in Uzbekistan – the highest Uzbek note (1000S) is worth less than US$0.50 on the black market. One US$100 bill turns into a plastic bag full of ragged bills, usually tied together with a rubber band. Bring US dollars with you to Uzbekistan. Euros can also be changed, but it's not as easy. Outside a few larger banks in Tashkent other currencies are totally useless. A select few ATMs can be found in Tashkent, but you can't rely on them having cash in them. In the provinces, cash advances are usually possible at Asaka Bank for MasterCard holders and at the National Bank of Uzbekistan for Visa cardholders. Commission is 1% to 2% on MasterCard advances and 1% to 4% on Visa card advances. The NBU is also usually the best bet for cashing travellers cheques.

Economy Of Uzbekistan

33:56
Since gaining independence, the Government of Uzbekistan has stated that it is committed to a gradual transition to a market-based economy. The progress with economic policy reforms has been a cautious one, but cumulatively Uzbekistan has shown respectable achievements. The government is yet to eliminate the gap between the black market and official exchange rates by successfully introducing convertibility of the national currency. Its restrictive trade regime and generally interventionist policies continue to have a negative effect on the economy. Substantial structural reform is needed, particularly in these areas: improving the investment climate for foreign investors, strengthening the banking system, and freeing the agricultural sector from state control. Remaining restrictions on currency conversion capacity and other government measures to control economic activity, including the implementation of severe import restrictions and sporadic closures of Uzbekistan's borders with neighboring Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan have led international lending organizations to suspend or scale back credits. 07:42
Send help, donate channel https://www.donationalerts.com/r/maksi_top Sum, Uzbekistan`s appearance. National currency of Uzbekistan is sum. In circulation are coins 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 sums. As in other republics of the former Soviet Union, Uzbekistan continued using Soviet ruble after independence. July 26, 1993, was put into circulation on the Russian ruble and the Soviet ruble ceased to be legal tender in Russia. Some States of the former Soviet republics have already had their national currencies, some have decided to continue to use until 1993 the Soviet ruble, and some chose to use the new Russian ruble. Uzbekistan replaced the ruble with sumomo at the nominal value on 15 November 1993. In the first issue of banknotes was only bills. 1 July 1994, introduced the second edition soums at the exchange rate of 1 new sum = 1000 old soms. On the day of administration, 1 US dollar was equal to 25 sums. Two series of coins were produced for the second edition. They can be easily distinguished by the titles used for Uzbekistan. The first series was written in the Cyrillic alphabet, and the second series in Latin. The first two commemorative coins issued in post-Soviet Uzbekistan 1 September 1994, was dedicated to the third anniversary of independence of the Republic and had the denomination of 10 soms.

the black market in Uzbekistan

03:01
I actually uploaded this video the day I left Uzbekistan. I'd moved this video to the "deleted" folder and then restored it. I did that as I didn't want Uzbek border guards going through the I-pad and seeing this video. I'm still not sure of the legality of the black market in Uzbekistan. Everyone seems to be doing it, and it's very open. Taken on Sunday 25/September/2016.

World's Most Confusing Currency? (IRANIAN RIAL)

02:26
One of my favorite things to do whenever I enter a new country (like Iran) is analyzed their currency situation, exchange rate and how these things affect their economy. I’ve handled many inflated currencies -- such as the Indonesian RUPIAH and Vietnamese DONG — but here in Iran, the RIAL gets a lot more confusing than inflation. Iran has 2 different systems to count their money. The first is RIALS (the official Iranian currency), and the second is TUMAN (which is like the Rial, without the last zero). As a traveler, you don’t know which price is listed unless you ask. $1 USD = 50,000 Rials and that same $1 dollar = 5,000 Tuman. Sound confusing? ... It is! Moreover, the only way to get money in Iran as a tourist is by bringing lots of cash (USD or Euros is preferred) and then exchanging it for Iranian Rials when you arrive. The reason is because there are no ATMs in Iran that cater to foreign banks. If you are as confused reading this as I am typing it out, then this video will explain the confusing world of the Iranian Rial a little better. Just curious, did you know anything about this before I made this video? Please share your thoughts on this below! And special thanks to G Adventures for hosting me on this life changing trip! What Can $10 Get You in IRAN? (Budgeting in Iran)

03:11
It's time to bring back my $10 series for a 14th episode -- and this time, I am coming to you live from the lovely country of IRAN!! As you may remember from my video a few days ago when I explained the confusing currency situation of Iran -- every day life in this country is relatively cheap. I say "relatively" because as long as you can avoid the touristy hotels & restaurants, then you will be surprised by how far your money can take you in Iran! I'm talking about the same affordability level as in South East Asia (i.e. Vietnam, Philippines and Cambodia)... Yes, Iran is THAT CHEAP! Join me today as I take you around the beautiful city of Shiraz, Iran to see how many things I can get for $10 USD (500,000 Iranian Rials). Have you ever been to Iran? If so, what else do you think I could have bought with this money? Music: Epidemic Sound ► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos: http://bit.ly/2hyQnZ1 ► Are you on Instagram? Hello Uzbekistan

03:23
Hiii there!! After few weeks of break new video is here and this time we traveled to one more post-Soviet country - Uzbekistan (Tashkent). You can still feel the spirit of the Soviet Union there, which makes this place special for the person, who also grew up in this kind of atmosphere. So if you are 80-90s kid who grew up during the Soviet time you would love it! Outside of Tashkent nature is amazing so suggestion is also to do a small road trip around Uzbekistan! (we also plan to visit Samarkand and Buhara) Below I will list the places we visited and provide some small feedback about each place for those who are interested. Hope you will like the video! Have a wonderful day and week. I LOVE YOU GUYS! JP MUSIC CREDITS Song name: Cartoon - On & On (feat. Daniel Levi) [NCS Release] Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4DyBUG242c ▽ Follow Cartoon SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/cartoonbaboon Facebook https://www.facebook.com/cartoondband ▽ Follow Daniel Levi (vocalist) Facebook http://facebook.com/daniellevimusic Website http://daniellevi.eu/ WHERE TO FIND ME FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/askJamiPoppins/ INSTAGRAM: jamipoppins ! Before moving towards places I want to mention that when you exchange money in Tahskent you should be prepared to get big pack of money for 100$ that will not fit into your wallet :D And also try to exchange money but do not pay with your credit card (currency rate differs a lot and you will lose lots of money) Exchange rate (1$- 7 000 SOM); Credit Card (1$ - 3600$) "Chorsu Bazaar" - I have never seen so many fresh vegetables and fruits. Definitely MUST visit place when in Tashkent. Everything is super cheap! We took so many fruits, spices, vegetables and payed only 13$. "Kukeldash Madrasah" - religious school, where they learn about Islam. Suggestion- do not come during the pray times, because rooms will be closed and you will see only outside. "Alisher Navoi National Park" - my favorite park in Tashkent! The atmosphere is so relaxing and as I said previously it had the Soviet Union. They had old attractions from Soviet Union that I as a kid adored! "Teleshayakh Mosque" - interesting fact about this mosque, women cannot pray there... only men can enter this mosque. That is why I could not enter it... "Independence Square (Mustakillik Square)"- beautiful big presidential house next to the square and green park. "Charvak Reservoir/lake" - the view from up is more beautiful when you actually get to the lake. It was a bit too noisy and lots of strange people around, who were staring really badly :D Plus the lake was super cold (could not swim there) and the shore was with big stones, so you could not walk there without flip flops. Restaurants: "Karavan" - there was a restaurant chain, where Karavan was the first restaurant that opened few years ago and that was one of the best restaurants I have ever been. It has traditional Uzbek food, with amazing, cozy design and 100% service. Plus it was quite cheap for the amount of food we ate! We took around 6-7 different dishes and had dessert, plus drank some beer and payed 30$ in total... "Gruzinskiy Dvorik" - one more restaurant of this chain, but serve only Georgian food (khchapuri, xinkhali etc). Also good quality food and relatively cheap prices for the portions. There were other restaurants in this chain with italian, asian cusine, as well as the irish pub! The most iinteresting fact is that all of them were in oneee street! "Yapona Mama" - the biggest amount of various sushi I have ever seen. and again cheap! for all we ate we paid 20$.

Episode 14 - Uzbekistan - Tashkent, Khiva / 365 days off

03:54
UZBEKISTAN: TRENDY TASHKENT AND HISTORICAL KHIVA. Our arrival in Tashkent was a little bit tense. Daniel did read on the Internet plenty of awful stories about the passport and the custom controls. Fortunately, Magali was here to keep him calm. The result was the most quick and hassle free border crossing we had so far. No one asked us about the pictures and videos we were having in our phones and laptops and about all the medicines we were carrying. If you feel stressed up ike Daniel about these controls, we strongly advise you to take a flight from Almaty (or any airport with a connecting flight). The airport border is way easier to cross than the land border. Tashkent is a big modern and extremely clean city. There are a few sights to see. Among them, the Chorsu bazar is worth the detour. From mutton kidney to wedding dresses, you can find whatever you need there. And most importantly you will find plenty of Uzbek currency. The government is artificially maintaining an exchange rate of 1$ for 3’000 soms (the local currency). This artificial rate led to a huge black market. The black market rate is 1$ for 6’150 soms. Suddenly your travel will cost you half less. And everybody is using the black market. The money changers do not hide from you. When we asked around, every body told us it is safe. After two nights in Tashkent, we flew to the other side (West) of the country, namely the city of Khiva. This is where the historical adventure begins. The citadel is composed of a dozen of madrasas, a few minarets, a few mosques all connected with pedestrian paved streets. You really feel either like 200 years ago or on the set of a Sharazad themed movie. Khiva was also the place were the heat hit us the most (with a maximum between 45 and 50 degrees). Only travel warriors (a category we don’t belong to) can visit sights all day long. We chose instead the visit / nap with air conditionning / visit routine. WE DID SPECIFICALLY ENJOY The desert castles near Khiva (in the sovereign republic of Karakalpakstan). These ruins are more than 2000 years old and are in the middle of nowhere. A must see in the region. The old city of Tashkent where you feel being like in a village. Children are playing football in the streets, older people are sitting on chairs watching them. You can also smell food that people are preparing for dinner and believe us, it smells really good. The drink Kompot everyone is having in this part of Central Asia, which is basically made of boiled fruits in water and sugar, the fruits are then left apart and we only drink the filtered juice. We mainly had cherry and peach flavors, very refreshing! ACCOMMODATIONS Tashkent: Jahongir BB Tashkent: A very nice Bed and Breakfast located in the old city. Khiva: Qosha Darvoza: A nice traditional hotel and among the most friendly staff we met so far. They installed a beamer in their courtyard at midnight so that Magali and a few other Italian tourists could watch the football game. RESTAURANTS Tashkent: the shashliks restaurants along the Ourafjon street near the Tinshlik metro stop for a good and inexpensive meal, also the best plov we had so far (mainly at lunch). Tashkent: the bread bazar in the old city located in the corner of Ourafjon and Farobi streets. Khiva: the Mirza Boshi and its views of the green dome’s madrassa nearby. We recommend trying the green dill noodles. BEST KEPT SECRET TIP Riding rented bicycles in the citadel of Khiva. It was a long time since we enjoyed a place where cars are prohibited. NT dollar takes a tumble, exchange rate nears NT$30 amid Iran deal crisis

01:38
The Taiex has taken a hit from US President Donald Trump''s decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal, with many foreign investors withdrawing money from Taiwan''s stock market, weakening the NT dollar. The Forex exchange rate hit 29.91 mid-way through trading today, but closed slightly up at 29.872. Some market analysts say the exchange rate will soon hit NT$30 to the greenback, in a hard week for squeezed importers. This grain merchant sells oats, soybean, maize, and wheat. More than 85% of his products are imported, so the sudden tumble of the NT dollar has hit him hard.Importers are suffering, and so too travelers to the States, who’ll find everything there just a bit more pricey. US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear accord, and throngs of foreign investors withdrawing funds from the Taiex, had the NT dollar taking a tumble today, sinking at one point midway through the day’s trading to 29.910, a new mid-day low for 2018. It had been mostly on the up for six months, rising to 29.069 in just two months after its low in November of 30.108.Li Chi-chanMarket analystThe rate of the NT dollar’s depreciation will speed up. I think we will easily see NT$30 this week. This analyst says that the US dollar rally and the sideways Taiex mean the local currency will continue to weaken, with the real possibility of hitting NT$30 to the greenback this week. Import merchants should brace themselves for escalating costs.

Black market currency exchanges in Buenos Aires - Money changers using Argentina's famous Blue Rate

04:50
I've been to a few counties where international currencies are highly regulated, but Argentina was different than all the rest. Argentina had an official rate and also a black market rate - the Blue Rate - that could give you much better value for your money. The Blue Rate wasn't a secret - it was printed in the newspaper every day and it seemed like there were black market money changers on pretty much every corner in Buenos Aires. This video tells you all about Argentina's Blue Rate, how the money changes went down, and more. Thanks for watching! Don't forget to subscribe to the channel and leave a comment!
