Using make and writing Makefile ( in C++ or C )

20:46
In this Video we will see How to use make command and make file and How to make SIMPLE C++ Makefile. A makefile is a specially formatted text file that a UNIX program called 'make' can interpret. Basically, the makefile contains a list of requirements for a program to be 'up to date.' The make program looks at these requirements, checks the timestamps on all the source-files listed in the makefile, and re-compiles any files which have an out-of-date timestamp. generally GCC and Make is used to to compile, link and build your c or C++ program. This is A Simple Makefile Tutorial in which you will learn how to write a makefiles with good makefile example. I will explainn What is a makefile ? GCC C programming build and execute in Linux environment

16:45
GCC compiles a C/C++ program into executable in 4 steps as Pre-processing: via the GNU C Preprocessor (cpp.exe), which includes the headers (#include) and expands the macros (#define). Compilation: The compiler compiles the pre-processed source code into assembly code for a specific processor. Assembly: The assembler (as.exe) converts the assembly code into machine code in the object file. Linker: Finally, the linker (ld.exe) links the object code with the library code to produce an executable file .out

Concepts: The future of generic programming (the future is here). Bjarne Stroustrup.

01:45:36
Celebrating Honorary Doctorate at UC3M for Bjarne Stroustrup. Concepts have arrived. They will change the way we think about programming. Implementations are available in GCC and Clang. Many fundamental concepts are in the standard committee’s working paper and the next generation of the STL depends critically on concepts. After briefly introducing concepts, I consider their role in design. What makes a good/useful concept? How do you design good concepts and use them well? From a language-technical point of view, concepts are a way of constraining template arguments. From a design perspective, they are a focus comparable to user-defined types (classes): The intent is for a concept to represent a fundamental concept in an applications domain (hence the name “concept”). I will mention technical issues recently resolved in the committee, but my primarily focus is not concepts as a language mechanism but as a support for the development of good software.

CppCon 2017: Matt Godbolt “What Has My Compiler Done for Me Lately? Unbolting the Compiler's Lid”

01:15:46
http://CppCon.org — Presentation Slides, PDFs, Source Code and other presenter materials are available at: https://github.com/CppCon/CppCon2017 — In 2012, Matt and a colleague were arguing whether it was efficient to use the then-new-fangled range for. During the discussion a bash script was written to quickly compile C++ source and dump the assembly. Five years later and that script has grown into a website relied on by many to quickly see the code their compiler emits, to compare different compilers' code generation and behaviour, to quickly prototype and share code, and investigate the effect of optimization flags. In this talk Matt will not only show you how easy (and fun!) it is to understand the assembly code generated by your compiler, but also how important it can be. He'll explain how he uses Compiler Explorer in his day job programming low-latency trading systems, and show some real-world examples. He'll demystify assembly code and give you the tools to understand and appreciate how hard your compiler works for you. He'll also talk a little about how Compiler Explorer works behind the scenes, how it is maintained and deployed, and share some stories about how it has changed over the years. By the end of this session you'll be itching to take your favourite code snippets and start exploring what your compiler does with them. — Matt Godbolt: DRW, Senior Software Engineer Matt Godbolt is a software engineer with trading firm DRW, and the creator of the Compiler Explorer website. He is passionate about writing efficient code. He has previously worked at on mobile apps at Google, run his own C++ tools company and spent more than a decade making console games. When he's not hacking on Compiler Explorer, Matt enjoys writing emulators for old 8-bit computer hardware. — Videos Filmed & Edited by Bash Films: http://www.BashFilms.com

CppCon 2017: Michael Spencer “My Little Object File: How Linkers Implement C++”

47:51
http://CppCon.org — Presentation Slides, PDFs, Source Code and other presenter materials are available at: https://github.com/CppCon/CppCon2017 — Ever wonder how the linker turns your compiled C++ code into an executable file? Why the One Definition Rule exists? Or why your debug builds are so large? In this talk we'll take a deep dive and follow the story of our three adventurers, ELF, MachO, and COFF as they make their way out of Objectville carrying C++ translation units on their backs as they venture to become executables. We'll see as they make their way through the tangled forests of name mangling, climb the cliffs of thread local storage, and wade through the bogs of debug info. We'll see how they mostly follow the same path, but each approach the journey in their own way. We'll also see that becoming an executable is not quite the end of their journey, as the dynamic linker awaits to bring them to yet a higher plane of existence as complete C++ programs running on a machine. — Michael Spencer: Sony Interactive Entertainment, Compiler Engineer Michael Spencer is a Compiler Engineer at Sony Interactive Entertainment where he has spent 6 years works on PlayStation's C++ toolchain. He is an active member of the LLVM community focusing on object files and linkers. He also serves as Sony's representative to the ISO C++ standard committee. — Videos Filmed & Edited by Bash Films: http://www.BashFilms.com

How to Compile User Defined Functions (UDF) for ANSYS Fluent

05:39
If you are using UDF's in Fluent, you may want to consider upgrading to ANSYS Fluent 19.2 (release date 9/18/18) where the need for UDF's has been reduced. ANSYS Fluent's new task-based workflow (starting at 19.2) guides the engineer through the simulation process, reduces the design options to only those that are relevant at each point in the process and provides best practices as defaults. John Bandela: Easy Binary Compatible C++ Interfaces Across Compilers

01:11:43
C++ is often perceived as hard to use and not as productive as other languages. One of the reasons for this is the lack of interoperability of binary components. When using a library, the user then either has to build from source (further complicated by the fact that there are multiple build systems) or the creator has to distribute multiple binaries. For example on Windows, one may have to distribute binaries for GCC Mingw, Visual C++ 2010 (release and debug, static and dynamic CRT), Visual C++ 2012, etc. There have been attempts to get around this problem. Options range from "extern C" functions, COM or XPCOM, or language extensions such as C++/CX. The above options either require compiler extensions or feel foreign and low-level to someone who is used to Modern C++. With C++11 being more consistently implemented across more compilers, one can take advantage of features such as lambdas and variadic templates to create easy to define, use, and implement binary interfaces that will work across compilers. This presentation will discuss the design and implementation of a library that has the following benefits: * No external tools to run * Define an interface once and use the definition for both implementation and usage * Interfaces are easy to implement and use once defined * Use std::string, std::vector, and std::pair in the interface * Use real return types (not error codes) * Use exceptions both in implementation and usage * Binary compatible with COM * Supports interface inheritance * Supports implementation inheritance * Implementation tested on Windows with Visual C++ executable and GCC .dll * Implementation tested on Linux with GCC executable and Clang .so During this presentation, will discuss how we go about implementing the above features, as well as look at some of the tradeoffs for this convenience. I also look forward to discussion with audience members about different approaches and ways in which this could be made better.

LCE12 - Linaro CI/LAVA for GCC Toolchain - 30 Oct 2012 - BV3

59:33
Champion: Paul Sokolovsky PM: David Zinman Support/Input: Michael Hope, Andy Doan, Danilo Segan Linaro Toolchain WG historically needed a build and validation solution from day 1. That was well before the invention of Linaro CI and LAVA and in turn, the TCWG developed and maintained until now their own lab that is hosted at a private home office - effective, but far from perfect! With growing maturity of our CI and LAVA solutions it was decided to prioritize an organized effort with the goal to replace the custom TCWG solution. Goal is to get to a point where TCWG uses official Linaro CI and LAVA infrastructure. Benefits are clearly a reduced maintenance and duplication of work overhead as well as access for TCWG validation to the complete LAVA pool of ARM devices. This session serves as a kick off session for a first 3-monthly iteration with the goal to have an agile plan how to get to zero active infrastructure items left in the the mentioned home office. Session by: Infrastructure/toolchain/validation Agenda: Reiterate the motivation for doing the migration. Reiterate the ultimate goal of the CI build migration effort Reiterate a potential roadmap with work packages to get to the final goal Define the minimum goal of this iteration Present and discuss the currently discussed first step in depth Discuss the structure and participants of the system Discuss the developer interaction use cases based off status quo Discuss risks and options to mitigate Link to summit schedule - http://summit.linaro.org/lce12/meeting/21232/linaro-cilava-for-gcc-cbuild-migration-episode-1/

Introduction to Concepts

46:45
By Avi Lachmish, the slides can be found at https://corecppil.github.io/Meetups/2018-09-17_Sweet-C++/Concepts.pdf Describe concepts (requirements of a template on its template arguments) as defined by the ISO Technical Specification [C++15] and shipped as part of GCC [GCC16]. I aim for an understanding of the aims of concepts, their basic design principles, and their basic ways of use: 1. The background of the concept design 2. Concepts as a foundation for generic programming 3. The basic use of concepts as requirements on template arguments 4. The definition of concepts as Boolean values (predicates) 5. Designing with concepts 6. The use of concepts to resolve overloads 7. The short-form notations 8. The future (STL2 – use of concepts in the Ranges TS [Nie15]) The use of concepts implies no run-time costs compared to traditional unconstrained templates. They are purely a selection mechanism and after selection, the code generated is identical to traditional template code. *Avi Lachmish* I am leading the R&D for the SWG product in Trustwave. I Joined Trustwave 8 years ago. I am an expert in Web and networking technologies, operating systems, and software development methodologies. I have extensive experience in C++, object-oriented analysis and design and distributed architecture. I have MSc in computer science. Adding defines and includes list to KDevelop project

01:13
This is how you (currently until it gets resolved) add the defines and includes to a UE4 project file in KDevelop4 using batch edit for the options. This can also be used for projects not only the base UnrealEngine project but also for your projects, just point everything to your projects directory. The rest of the steps are the same.

In this video, I will show you how to learn C coding in an easiest way that you can imagine. So what are we waiting for, let's get started. So, today we're going to learn Data Types In C Program Learn How Data Types Works With Atom Editor On Windows 10 #4 We're going to practice making codes and this is the best way to learn coding. More hands on exercises and at the end of this video. I encourage you to answer the question because it's the best way to teach yourself in C programming C supports the following basic data types: int - integer or a whole number. float - floating point or a number with fractional part. double - double-precision floating point value. char - single character C has a built-in sizeof operator that gives the memory requirements for a particular data type. printf - statements in this program have two arguments. - the 1st is the output string with a format specifier (%d) - the 2nd argument returns the sizeof value. - the final output, %d is replaced by the value in the 2nd argument. 2 types of data types: Primitive data types - int - float - char - double - long double User define data types - stack - queue - tree - structure - union C does not have a boolean type. Printf statement can have multiple format specifiers with corresponding arguments to replace the specifiers. It also referred to as conversion specifiers. C99 add 3 more data types namely _Bool _Complex _Imaginary C is a general-purpose programming language that has been around for nearly 50 years. It has been used to write everything from operating systems (including Windows and many others) to complex programs like the Python interpreter, Git, Oracle database and more. It's a low-level language that relates closely to th way machines work while still being easy to learn. Atom is a free and open source text and source code editor for macOs, Linux and Microsoft Windows with support for plug-ins written in Node.js, and embedded Git Control, developed by GitHub. This provides us with a platform to create a responsive and interactive web applications etc... Why use Atom? Atom is a hackable text editor for the 21st century, built on Electron, and based on everything we love about our favorite editors. Designed to be deeply customizable, but still approachable using the default configuration. What Is TDM GCC Compiler used for? Is a compiler suite for Windows. It combines the most recent stable release of the GCC toolset, a few patches for Windows-friendlines, and the free and open-source MinGW or MinGW-w64 runtime APIs to create an open-source alternative to Microsoft's compiler and platform SDK. TDM-GCC MinGW Compiler for free GCC for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows with a real installer & updater.
