Another DIVIDEND STOCK Everyone Loves (Here's Why I'm Never Buying This Stock)

30:24
There's a dividend stock that everyone seems to love right now. Across dividend growth investing blogs and YouTube comments, it seems like investors view this iconic brand as a value, a buying opportunity. Well, this dividend growth investor has decided to never buy this company. Check out my fundamental analysis of GE, and how their financial data brings a multitude of red flags, from a dividend investing standpoint. Today's video is a hands-on analysis, and will show you exactly how I personally analyze stocks. With a portfolio of 36 stocks, I like to perform rigorous fundamental analysis to separate the winners from the losers. Today's video specifically covers: * Top-level fundamental screens that I like to perform on Yahoo! Finance including: price per share, PE ratio, earnings per share, market capitalization (also known as market cap), debt, and more. * Why price per share trends (over the very long term) matter, even though I invest for dividends and passive income (I'm not in it for capital appreciation). Capital appreciation is a byproduct of value creation. If a stock has gone nowhere for a long period of time (as GE has experienced), that's often a red flag. * How GE recently cut their dividend in half. In fact, I have a "one strike and you are out" policy with dividend cuts. Dividend cuts are never ok in my book. * How I look at revenue trends over the long term. GE's declining revenue is not necessarily a deal breaker for me. However, this red flag combined with many others (especially lower operating margins) definitely poses a big concern. * Learn all about operating margins and cash flow, and why these are especially important in a situation of declining revenue. * Learn about GE Capital (GE's bank) and how its poor performance is indicative of a weak overall company. In fact, GE Capital is one of the largest red flags with this company. * Explore my big takeaways and insights including: (1) thoughts on industrial conglomerates, (2) why great brand is not enough, (3) the need for diversification, (4) why it's important to trust one's own analysis (and not others), (5) and how things can change and dividend investors always need to be prepared. Today's video is a long one. If you are serious about learning dividend growth investing, I believe it will be well worth your while. Worth noting: I'm not to trying to insult nor put down anyone who invests in General Electric. In fact, I wish you all the success in the world. Today's video is meant to start a debate, and unfortunately GE is just not for me. That said, there are many different strategies out there, and it could be that a "buy low, sell high" investor does quite well with GE. Mentioned in today's video, my personal finance journey has included a bunch of mistakes. Learn from my top five financial mistakes in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC-pQ56FlK4 Also mentioned in today's video, I really like Kimberly-Clark (KMB). I’m averaging into this stock in 2018. Want to learn more about KMB from a fundamental analysis standpoint? Check out my multi-part series. Kimberly-Clark Stock Analysis Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP6_mtdDYBI Kimberly-Clark Stock Analysis Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDxYxsvPc_s Kimberly-Clark Stock Analysis Part 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqPvUUDgFl0 Disclosure: I am long Southern Company (SO), Procter & Gamble (PG), Clorox (CLX), and Kimberly-Clark (KMB). I own all four of these stocks in my portfolio. Disclaimer: I'm not a licensed investment advisor, and today's video is just for entertainment and fun. This video is NOT investment advice. My Dividend Investing SECRET: Capital Appreciation Matters

14:16
As a dividend growth investor, I invest for dividends and cash flow. If you've been watching my videos for a while, you know that I do not really value capital appreciation. After all, I buy stocks with the plan on never selling. I buy forever, and expect to live off the dividends (passive income) that are paid. However, I have a secret to share with all of you! (I actually do care about capital appreciation.) Learn why in today's video! In fact, I believe it's totally possible to "not care" and "care" about capital appreciation at the same time. It's actually quite logical for this dividend investor. Let me explain... Bucket 1: I Don't Care About Capital Appreciation As a long-term investor, I cannot afford to care about capital appreciation. Otherwise, my ego would take a hit. It would be too difficult to get caught up in the day-to-day volatility. Rather, as soon as I buy, I'm only focused on the dividend. And, if I do look at the stock price, I get excited when it goes down (as long as fundamentals have not changed). I look at a price decline as a buying opportunity! Bucket: I Do Care About Capital Appreciation All of this being said, I do care about capital appreciation. Let me explain: When I am looking at a net new company, capital appreciation is a sign that the company is well-managed. Anything can happen in the short run (say a 5-year period). However, when I look at the long-term trends (10-years or more), I really like to see some capital appreciation, because that shows me that the company is well-managed. Value has been created! (I also value capital appreciation when I periodically check companies in my portfolio.) In the world of dividend investing, it's important to be open-minded and flexible. I often dismiss the "buy low, sell high" strategy because it's not for me. That said, there is value in that strategy, even from a "forever" dividend investor standpoint. Those capital gains are one of the greatest indicators of a well-managed dividend company. As a closing point, I believe that dividend growth investing is the best type of investing. Just one example: I get to enjoy the best of both worlds. I can "not care" about capital appreciation while also "caring" as well. However, "buy low, sell high" investors don't have this luxury. They have to care about capital gains, as that's the only path to profits (they don't have dividends). Just some fun food for thought. Mentioned in today's video, here's a link to my GE analysis. Unfortunately, in the case of GE, the stock has gone nowhere in 20 years. This is one of the big reasons I cannot bring myself to like this stock from a dividend standpoint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2qIGUoUKrI Also, I invite you to connect with me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ianlopuch/ Disclaimer: I'm not a licensed investment advisor, and today's video is just for entertainment and fun. What is a Bond | by Wall Street Survivor

02:17
What is a bond? Learn more at: https://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com A bond is a debt investment in which an investor loans money to a corporate entity or government. The funds are borrowed for a defined period of time at either a variable or fixed interest rate. If you want a guaranteed money-maker, bonds are a much safer option than most. There are many times of bonds, however, and each type has a different risk level. Unlike stocks, which are equity instruments, bonds are debt instruments. When bonds are first issued by the company, the investor/lender typically gives the company $1,000 and the company promises to pay the investor/lender a certain interest rate every year (called the Coupon Rate), AND, repay the $1,000 loan when the bond matures (called the Maturity Date). For example, GE could issue a 30 year bond with a 5% coupon. The investor/lender gives GE $1,000 and every year the lender receives $50 from GE, and at the end of 30 years the investor/ lender gets his $1,000 back. Bonds di er from stocks in that they have a stated earnings rate and will provide a regular cash flow, in the form of the coupon payments to the bondholders. This cash flow contributes to the value and price of the bond and affects the true yield (earnings rate) bondholders receive. There are no such promises associated with common stock ownership. After a bond has been issued directly by the company, the bond then trades on the exchanges. As supply and demand forces start to take effect the price of the bond changes from its initial $1,000 face value. On the date the GE bond was issued, a 5% return was acceptable given the risk of GE. But if interest rates go up and that 5% return becomes unacceptable, the price of the GE bond will drop below $1,000 so that the effective yield will be higher than the 5% Coupon Rate. Conversely, if interest rates in general go down, then that 5% GE Coupon Rate starts looking attractive and investors will bid the price of the bond back above $1,000. When a bond trades above its face value it is said to be trading at a premium; when a bond trades below its face value it is said to be trading at a discount. Understanding the difference between your coupon payments and the true yield of a bond is critical if you ever trade bonds. Confused? Don't worry check out the video and head over to http://courses.wallstreetsurvivor.com/invest-smarter/

The Market Is 'Full Blown Bear,' Says Jim Cramer

07:36
We're not in a bull market anymore. At least, that's what Jim Cramer is saying. In an interview with TheStreet, Cramer said that market has gone "full-blown bear." Apple was down when the bell kicked off trading on Monday morning. Investors have felt pretty skittish ever since it released earnings earlier in November. The company's latest hit comes from weak demand for the new iPhones. The company has also told suppliers that it will be cutting its production plan for the iPhone XR. Cramer responded to the market sell-off and expressed his doubts. In the past month, Apple has fallen nearly 16%. Pfizer is Real Money's stock of the day. The drug company announced Monday morning that it plans to raise prices on over 40 of its drugs. When asked how he felt about the raising of rates, Cramer sighed. Curious about the effect this could have on Pfizer's stock and other sectors? Real Money will have wall to wall coverage on the drug company all day Monday. The trade war is still ever-present. In his column for Real Money this morning, Cramer discussed the dual-sided issue of the trade war. While President Donald Trump tends to sound upbeat when it comes to solving the trade war with the Chinese, Vice President Mike Pence does not seem so positive. "It gets worse. President Trump intimates that there are lists and asks going on behind the scenes that make something magical a possibility. Vice President Pence is trying to contain the Chinese the same way we contained the Soviet Union," Cramer wrote in his column. "The big difference? The Soviets were rich and powerful and totalitarian enough to be self-funding. Pence makes it clear that we are the ones that have been funding China's ambitions with our trade -- and now it is time to shut all trade down so they don't have enough money to continue to challenge us technologically, militarily and, yes, imperialistically." "And we are winning. How do investors know? Because Pence told us in his APEC speech: "China's largest stock exchange fell by 25% in the first nine months of this year, in large part because of our administration has been standing strong against Beijing's trade practices." Yep, Trump has started a Communist Bear Market and now it is time to finish it," wrote Cramer. Cramer gives his thoughts on the trade war and what investors can expect. Graham’s data go up to 1971 but so we will first look at his and later discuss the insight on the current situation. The main points Graham emphasises where we can learn much from history are: the VARYING relationship between stock prices and their earnings and dividends It is important to understand the manner in which stocks have mede their underlying advance through the MANY cycles of the past century Look at successive TEN-year averages of earnings, dividends and stock prices Graham’s take From 1871 to 1971 there have been 19 bear markets where stocks fell from 15% to 86% from top to bottom. Yes, 86% is the correct number and it was even 89% of the S&P 500 in the 1929-1932 period. Many forget that the 1920s were one of the best periods in history based on consumerism etc. Rings a bell? However, that is a story for another day. Let’s look at how Graham describes what had been going on.

General Dividend-Tastic Mills (I'm Buying This Dividend Stock)

27:17
I just bought a brand new stock in my dividend portfolio. This is the first net new position I have opened in a while, and it's a household brand name. It's also a dividend stock that's "on sale" right now. With a starting dividend yield of 4.36% and a PE ratio of 14.6, I just had to initiate a position in General Mills (GIS). The maker of Cheerios, Haagen-Dazs, and Annies, General Mills just announced a huge acquisition of pet food maker Blue Buffalo. Also, they warned that EPS growth would be short of analyst expectations in fiscal 2018. The stock has dropped in price, creating an attractive value in my opinion (for long-term dividend growth investors). Today's video is a fundamental analysis of General Mills stock, and why this dividend growth investor likes it so much! In particular, today's video covers: * Why I like consumer non-cyclical stocks for my dividend stock portfolio. * Why I like stocks that make household brands. (I like to invest Peter Lynch style.) * Why a starting yield of 4.36% is very strong in this market, for this type of company. * My hypothesis as to why General Mills has been trending down in price, and why it's "overdone" in my humble opinion. * My extensive fundamental analysis including metrics like: price history, revenue, profit, earnings per share (EPS), PE ratio, operating margin, dividend history, payout ratio, debt level, and more! * At the end of the day, General Mills is facing some challenges (not too dissimilar from other consumer non-cyclical stocks. Perhaps the challenges are a bit more pronounced with GIS, on the revenue growth side and profit side. That said, as a long-term investor with decades upon decades ahead, I am willing to wait! I like a good buying opportunity, and am placing my capital behind General Mills. More than anything, I feel strong about the starting dividend yield, and possibility for dividend growth ahead. While dividend growth may be slow (or even non-existent) in the next few years, I think it will be fabulous in the long-term. After all, General Mills has been paying a dividend for 118 years, according to their Annual Report (10-K). And, I'm willing to wait for massive growth because the starting yield is so attractive. Want to learn more about stock market analysts and how they can create buying opportunities? Here's a fun video on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81pWwzH991k General Mills has a great PE ratio, compared to the overall stock market. Want to learn why PE ratio is so important in my dividend growth investing? Here's a video on that topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUmgT75dBKI One of my greatest investing mistakes has been following others.
