Climate Change Explained
A straightforward explanation of Climate Change: the heat from human emissions is roughly equal to exploding 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs every day. Historically, every time carbon dioxide levels increase in Earth's atmosphere, the average surface temperature increases, ice melts, and the seas rise. Global Warming. The thicker layer of greenhouse gases traps more heat. This result in an increase in average temperature of the earth and the earth becomes hotter and hotter. This is called global warming. If we do not take steps to reduce global warming, it will lead to loss of human lives, plants and animals. Steps to reduce global warming: Plant more trees. Reduce, reuse and recycle. Use less hot water. Turn off electronic devices when not in use. Spread awareness. Come on everybody, let us reduce global warming.

Global warming explained in 146 seconds
I am Simon, a first year PhD candidate in Climate Physics at the University of Exeter. I upload videos on bits of science which are relevant to what I do, and sometimes just because they're really cool. I wanted to make this video because I global warming is a poorly understood topic by the public, and yet its incredibly important. The basic idea behind global warming is that by releasing Carbon Dioxide (and other substances such as methane) into the atmosphere we are making it less transparent to thermal radiation. As I explain in the video, this means that the Earth starts to effectively radiate out into space at a higher altitude, which means that it starts to radiate at a lower temperature. This means that less energy is radiated out from the Earth, but the same amount is coming in from the Sun - this energy imbalance has one consequence; that the Earth heats up. Links: - CO_2 in the Earth's atmosphere: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide_in_Earth%27s_atmosphere - This idea of 'transparency' in the atmosphere is more formally known as 'optical depth' - find out more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_depth - There are many resources available online for atmospheric physics, here is one example: http://storm.colorado.edu//~cassano/atoc5050/Lecture_Notes/index.htm - How much CO_2 can the atmosphere support before cataclysmic climate change occurs? Take a look at http://trillionthtonne.org/ for more information - What is the difference between climate change and global warming? Candace Owens On Climate Change: 'I Don't Believe This, Like, At All'
Polls show that many members of the public believe that scientists substantially disagree about human-caused global warming. The gold standard of science is the peer-reviewed literature. If there is disagreement among scientists, based not on opinion but on hard evidence, it will be found in the peer-reviewed literature. I searched the Web of Science for peer-reviewed scientific articles published between 1 January 1991 and 9 November 2012 that have the keyword phrases “global warming” or “global climate change.” The search produced 13,950 articles. 20 - Are cosmic rays causing global warming?
In response to anticipated comments: I know the blogs will tell you that that a correlation between cosmic rays and temperature has been shown, and once you believe this it may be hard to convince you of the science. However let's have a go.... There are two supposed correlations: Svensmark and Friis Kristensen wrote a paper on a correlation between sunspots and temperature during the 20th century, which they attributed to the varying intensity of cosmic rays with solar activity. However, this turned out to be the result of a mathematical error. Cosmic rays have been measured over the last 50 years and they vary with the 11-year solar cycle. There has been no increase at all, whereas average global temperatures have been increasing. Shaviv and Veiser wrote a paper on a correlation between cosmic rays caused by the Earth's passage through our galaxy's spiral arms and global temperature over the last 500 million years. But Rahmstorf and others showed that Shaviv and Veizer may have misinterpreted the meteorite data on which the periodicity that passage was calculated, and the model doesn't fit the data well anyway (by comparison, there's an almost perfect correlation between CO2 levsla dn global temps over the same period.) while the press release that accompanied Shaviv and Veizer's paper announced that their results showed that recent global warming can be explained by galactic cosmic rays, the paper itself said that that recent global warming canNOT be explained by galactic cosmic rays. As I said in my video, read the scientific papers, not the blogs. CORRECTION: I described CERN as the European particle accelerator; in fact it is the organization that runs that project, as well as many others. Climate Change: What's So Alarming?
Are droughts, hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters getting stronger and more frequent? Are carbon dioxide emissions, global temperatures and sea levels putting us on a path for climate catastrophe? But many climate-change alarmists seem to claim that all climate change is worse than expected. This ignores that much of the data is actually more encouraging than expected. Yes, Arctic sea ice is melting faster than the models expected. But models also predicted that Antarctic sea ice would decrease, yet Antarctic sea ice is increasing. Yes, sea levels are rising, but the rise is not accelerating—if anything, two recent papers, one by Chinese scientists published in January 2014, and the other by U.S. scientists published in May 2013, have shown a small decline in the rate of sea-level increase. We are often being told that we’re seeing more and more droughts, but a study published in March 2014 in the journal Nature actually shows a decrease in the world’s surface that has been afflicted by droughts since 1982. Facts like these are important because a one-sided focus on worst-case stories is a poor foundation for sound policies. Hurricanes are likewise used as an example of things getting worse. But look at the U.S., where we have the best statistics: if we adjust for population and wealth, hurricane damage during the period of 1900-2013 actually decreased slightly. At the U.N. climate conference in Lima, Peru in December 2014 attendees were told that their countries should cut carbon emissions to avoid future damage from storms like Typhoon Hagupit, which hit the Philippines during the conference, killing at least 21 people and forcing more than a million into shelters. Yet the trend for strong typhoons around the Philippines have actually declined since 1950, according to a study published in 2012 by the Journal of Climate. Again, we’re told that all things are getting worse, but the facts don’t support this. This does not mean that global warming is not real, or a problem, but the one-sided story of alarmism makes us lose focus. If we want to help the world’s poor, who are the most threatened by natural disasters, it’s less about cutting carbon emissions than it is about pulling them out of poverty. The best way to see this is to look at the world’s deaths from natural disasters over time. In the Oxford University database for death rates from floods, extreme temperatures, droughts, and storms, the average in the first part of last century, was more than 130 dead every year per million people. Since then, the death rates have dropped 97 percent to a new low in the 2010s of less than 4 per million. The dramatic decline is mostly due to economic developments that help nations withstand catastrophes. If you’re rich like Florida, a major hurricane might cause plenty of damage to expensive buildings, but it kills few people and causes only a temporary dent in economic output. If a similar hurricane hits a poorer country like the Philippines or Guatemala, it kills many more people and can devastate the economy. So let’s be clear. Climate change is not “worse than we thought.” That doesn’t mean it’s not a reality or not a problem. It is. But the narrative that the world’s climate is changing from bad to worse is unhelpful alarmism that prevents us from focusing on smart solutions. Global Warming Is a Religion and Climate Change Is a Cult.
It is an article of faith today that you must believe in anthropogenic causation models for global warming and climate change. You must accept these as immutable and absolute fact. And in the calculus of delusion you mustn't concern yourself with Al Gore and his carbon trading and exchange Ponzi schemes. In fact, most who adhere to this insane fealty have no idea what these even connote. But since when did facts ever get in the way of insane delusion and obsession. It turns out that this claim originates from a very peculiar and surprising place. Most people dont know where this claim comes from however they are using it to justify trillions of dollars in tax hikes and new solar companies that go bankrupt. Not only does this claim come from a shocking source but we debunk the claim by using the very climate scientist statements an papers that were included in the study and poll / survey that birthed this talking point. The Joe Rogan and Candace Owens discussion about climate change / global warming inspired me to make this video. Is Climate Change a Hoax?
Is climate change real? Is it a hoax? Let’s review what scientists in their field of study have concluded and try to gain an unbiased basic understanding of what is happening to our planet. Peer-reviewed scientific journals, preferably written by scientists holding doctorates within their relevant fields of study, such as Climatology, Meteorology, Geology, and any other relevant interdisciplinary fields within physics, chemistry and biology are the generally accepted benchmarks for reliable data. With that being said, I will not be quoting from Al Gore or Bill Nye, and will intentionally avoid any disreputable scientists who are assumed to be on the payroll of big oil or political parties with an obvious agenda or bias. With the disclaimer out of the way, if you have any additional credible sources or verifiable corrections that add weight to either side of the argument please comment below. Freeman Dyson: A Global Warming Heretic
Deniers/Heretics like Freeman Dyson, should get the death penalty according to an Australian-born Professor, Richard Parncutt; "The death penalty is barbaric, racist, expensive, and is often applied by mistake." However, Parncutt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Parncutt) states; "The death penalty is an appropriate punishment for influential Global Warming deniers. Global Warming deniers fall into a completely different category from (mass murderer of children) Behring Breivik. They are already causing the deaths of hundreds of millions of future people. We could be speaking of billions, but I am making a conservative estimate." However, convicted persons who "publicly repent" would be spared the death penalty. But, he says; "Some global warming deniers would never admit their mistake and as a result they would be executed." Parncutt says we should start with the 269 prominent deniers (most of them scientists) listed on the Desmogblog website; http://www.desmogblog.com/global-warming-denier-database Freeman Dyson is a physicist who has been teaching at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton since Albert Einstein was there. When Einstein died in 1955, there was an opening for the title of "most brilliant physicist on the planet." Dyson has filled it. So when the global-warming movement came along, a lot of people wondered why he didn't come along with it. The reason he's a skeptic is simple. "I think any good scientist ought to be a skeptic," Dyson said. Then in the late 1970s, he got involved with early research on climate change at the Institute for Energy Analysis in Oak Ridge, Tenn. That research, which involved scientists from many disciplines, was based on experimentation. The scientists studied such questions as how atmospheric carbon dioxide interacts with plant life and the role of clouds in warming. But that approach lost out to the computer-modeling approach favored by climate scientists. And that approach was flawed from the beginning, Dyson said. "I just think they don't understand the climate," he said of climatologists. "Their computer models are full of fudge factors." A major fudge factor concerns the role of clouds. The greenhouse effect of carbon dioxide on its own is limited. To get to the apocalyptic projections trumpeted by Al Gore and company, the models have to include assumptions that CO-2 will cause clouds to form in a way that produces more warming. "The models are extremely oversimplified," Dyson said. "They don't represent the clouds in detail at all. They simply use a fudge factor to represent the clouds." Dyson said his skepticism about those computer models was borne out by recent reports of a study by Ed Hawkins of the University of Reading in Great Britain that showed global temperatures were flat between 2000 and 2010 — even though we humans poured record amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere during that decade. That was vindication for a man who was termed "a civil heretic" in a New York Times Magazine article on his contrarian views. Dyson embraces that label, with its implication that what he opposes is a religious movement. So does his fellow Princeton physicist and fellow skeptic, William Happer. "There are people who just need a cause that's bigger than themselves," said Happer. "Then they can feel virtuous and say other people are not virtuous." To show how uncivil this crowd can get, Happer e-mailed me an article about an Australian professor who proposes — quite seriously — the death penalty for heretics such as Dyson. As did Galileo, they can get a reprieve if they recant. I hope that guy never gets to hear Dyson's most heretical assertion: Atmospheric CO2 may actually be improving the environment. "It's certainly true that carbon dioxide is good for vegetation," Dyson said. "About 15 percent of agricultural yields are due to CO2 we put in the atmosphere. From that point of view, it's a real plus to burn coal and oil." In fact, there's more solid evidence for the beneficial effects of CO2 than the negative effects, Dyson said. So why does the public hear only one side of this debate? "Because the media do an awful job of reporting it." "They're absolutely lousy," he said of American journalists. "That's true also in Europe. I don't know why they've been brainwashed."

Climate Change is not about the Environment
Redistribution of Wealth, De-industrialisation of the West, Eugenics, Depopulation and the creation of a one world Government, this is the real motive behind "man made" Global Warming and Climate Change. "The threat of environmental crisis will be the 'international disaster key' that will unlock the New World Order." - (Mikhail Gorbachev Quoted in 'A Special Report: The Wildlands Project Unleashes Its War On Mankind', by Marilyn Brannan, Associate Editor, Monetary & Economic Review, 1996, p.5). "The common enemy of humanity is man. In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome. The real enemy then, is humanity itself." - Club of Rome (international think tank) The First Global Revolution report, 1992 "The environmental movement promises to bring greater numbers into our orbit than the peace movement ever did." - Carl Bloice (Communist) Revealing articles on the history and fallacy of Global Warming and Climate Change: http://www.21stcenturysciencetech.com/Articles%202007/GWHoaxBorn.pdf http://www.infowars.com/climate-change-hoax-of-the-century/ http://www.infowars.com/articles/nwo/globalists_love_global_warming.htm http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=17826 http://earthpro.info/ http://www.prisonplanet.com/rationing-us-to-death-the-real-green-agenda.html http://www.c3headlines.com/2010/12/new-zealand-climate-scientists-admit-to-faking-temperatures-the-actual-temps-show-little-warming-ove.html

Working with The Human Impacts Institute (HII), an environmental non-profit based in Brooklyn, New York, has allowed me to take a break from climate science and academia and take a plunge into “society.” Tara DePorte, a C&S alum, founded HII with a mission to foster sustainable human impacts through community engagement, collaboration, knowledge-building and creativity. To achieve its mission, HII is involved in educating and guiding communities in the process of becoming more sustainable. At HII, we believe in taking small steps and simple actions that can all together make meaningful differences for a more sustainable world. Recently, we have joined local efforts to ban plastic bags in New York, with the #BagItNYC campaign. Many cities around the world have already banned plastic bags and New York is falling behind. The worldwide consumption of plastic bags is estimated to be between 100 billion to 1 trillion per year. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in 2011 the U.S. recycled only 11 percent of plastics. That means most of the plastic bags we use end up in landfills across the nation! You might ask yourself, what do plastic bags have to do with climate change? Let’s start with the fact that most people tend to use plastic bags once, even after knowing that they are not biodegradable and can sit in a landfill for over a century. Plastic bags are mostly made out of polyethylene, which is a byproduct of petroleum and natural gas. As plastic bags decompose into little pieces, they release greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, adding another number to the long list of anthropogenic climate change sources. Plastic bag production also increases dependence on foreign oil reserves. The lifecycle of a plastic bag begins with the extraction of crude oil or natural gas and goes all the way to the end of that century it can take for to decompose. This tells us that we must also count emissions generated throughout the transportation of crude oil from foreign regions, the manufacturing process and the delivery to businesses... Climate change 🌁: Are we all doomed? - UpFront
This month, the United States released an exhaustive scientific report on climate change, citing humans as the dominant cause of global warming. So, should we still be optimistic about humans' ability to combat climate change? And should we be worried about the possible doomsday scenarios that have been presented in the media? Or are these scenarios counter-productive? David Wallace-Wells, the author of a controversial article titled The Uninhabitable Earth, which paints a pessimistic doomsday scenario for planet Earth, believes people are not as worried as they should be about the grave consequences of climate change: "I think when you look at the public as a whole, it's just very, very clear to me, and honestly, I don't see a counter argument, that the public is not alarmed enough about what is possible and not motivated enough by that alarm to take political action," says Wallace-Wells, who is also a deputy editor at New York Magazine. For Andrew Freedman, senior science editor at Mashable, we need a more level approach: "Is climate change fatalism a bigger problem than climate complacency?" asks Freedman, who is also a former science writer at Climate Central. "I think they're both big problems. Neither one of them is necessarily a solution. I would prefer, like, climate change realism here." In this week's Arena, David Wallace-Wells and Andrew Freedman debate how to cover climate change in a way that motivates the public to action. Climate change: Earth's giant game of Tetris - Joss Fong
View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/climate-change-earth-s-giant-game-of-tetris-joss-fong There's a game of Tetris happening on a global scale: The playing space is planet Earth, and all those pesky, stacking blocks represent carbon dioxide -- a greenhouse gas that is piling up ever more rapidly as we burn the fossil fuels that run our cars, factories and power plants. Joss Fong outlines how this overload of CO2 leads to climate change and reminds us that, unlike Tetris, we won't get an opportunity to start over and try again. SOURCES ARE BELOW If you would like to support this channel, please don't send money to me, I don't need it. Instead, please support a charity that has a unique program designed to provide health care in exchange for forest preservation and reforestry. Called ASRI, it’s a hospital in Borneo that provides affordable health care to villages on the edge of a national park in return for a pledge not to cut down trees, The pledges are monitored, and the result is a dramatic decrease in deforestation rates and an increase in the health of the local population. Climate change and long term survival plans
http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=172324 There is something that is bothering me about the climate change going on all around the world, and long term survival plans. Lets take Texas for example, my home state, has been under drought conditions for the past 3+ years. some of the local lakes are 8 -- 10 feet low. A couple of years ago lake Travis got to around 100 feet below normal. National Geographic wrote and interesting article about how Greenland was on the leading edge of climate change. The majority of Greenlands income is based off of fishing. But the warming waters has caused the shrimp and certain fish populations to decline. The big question is "where" are the fishing going. The climate change is not limited to North America -- there is an interesting article on the BBC how Soils of UK and Europe drying out.

Prof. Mark Maslin: "Climate Change" | Talks at Google
Mark Maslin is Professor of Climatology at University College London and co-author of countless scientific papers, popular articles and books. His areas of scientific expertise include causes of past and future global climate change and its effects on the global carbon cycle, biodiversity, rainforests and human evolution. In this talk, based around his Oxford University Press book "Climate Change: A Very Short Introduction", Maslin provides a compelling introduction into the complex field of climate change for a non-scientific audience. What are its effects, how do we measure them, and how can we predict its development in the coming decades? Limiting warming to no more than two degrees celsius has become the de facto target for global climate policy, so one questions that scientists have to answer is: What changes do policymakers have to implement, and which technologies do we need to develop, that we have the chance to meet this target? Recorded in London, Feb 2017
