Some HP motherboards actually contain some hidden advanced setup options for configuring smart fan settings, CPU/System fan stall warnings, and quite a few other things. To access this advanced BIOS setup utility, you can press CTRL+F10→CTRL+F11 when you first see the HP/Compaq splash screen. It may take a few tries to get in. NOTE: This won't work with all HP motherboards, only some. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When posting comments, please abide by the appropriate comments policy. This a video to show how to disable secure boot and enable legacy mode. This process is usually for a lot of OEM windows 8 machines like HP computers. For more details about this process, just go to the following link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03653226 I did this process in my HP envy h8 1437c desktop computer that came with windows 8 preinstalled. But I did this process after I updated to windows 8.1, but it doesn have to be windows 8.1 for this process to work. I did this process because I wanted to upgrade my graphic card from a Nvidia geforce gt 620 1gb (came with the PC) to nvidia gtx 970. I was successful in upgrading. Also I bought a crosair cx 600 so the graphic card and the rest of the parts has sufficient power to be able to be used. So before installing a video card in OEM machines like HP that came with windows 8, u must do this process and then boot up your computer and uninstall all the graphic drivers that is installed for your old card in your computer and then remove the old card and put the new one in whether its the nvidia gtx 970 or any card. Also make sure u have enough space in your PC and your motherboard support PCIe gen 3.0 read the device manual of your PC if u bought it from a OEM company. For me I bought the MSI Nvidia GTX 970 4G and it was really big card and my current case had enough room to fit it, but the power supply in the other hand was a bit of a problem, but by using a bit force and bending the back of the case a little I was able to fit the cx 600 power supply in. It was harder than I thought and much more force had to be used, but at least now everything works so far. I am even running windows 10 by upgrading from windows 8.1.

Please read discription before commenting! Finally I've managed to get my hands on a second heatsink for the HP Proliant Ml350 G6. So I can finally add the 2nd CPU to the system. "Why is that so hard? heatsinks aren't hard to find!" Well, yes and no. Yes, heatsinks are indeed there, but most are insanely overpriced. And with overpriced I mean realy overpriced, it was pretty much cheaper to buy a second ML350 G6 and rip the heatsink out of there then to buy a heatsink. Also, as you can expect for a system like this, 'normal' heatsinks don't fit, you have to get the one and only from HP that fits. (well, you could mod the stuff, but I wasn't planning on risking my system on that). I've been checking various shops, most ask around €100,- (excluding tax and shipping!), that is a lot...awfull lot if you know what the heatsink looks and feels like. That's Dutch shops. "So check ebay!" Well, yeah, heatsink $25,- shipping $470 !!! (I mean... what do they ship it with? an attack helicopter?!), other shops ask $200+ (they propably check your location and include shipping costs). So all that was a no go. So I waited and waited and finally a German shop had a few in stock. Still expensive, but €50 is a lot cheaper than €100+ most shops ask. So I bought that one, and a capacitor for the FBWC (flash backed write cache) for the raidcontroller...which I forgot to order when I got the cache...... ooops. So a short video of upgrading my ML350. Video is a bit messy at times, the tripod of the camera was in the way for easy acces to the machine, and had to watch out not to block the lens of the camera (had to cut out a few pieces in the video). So it's not your average 'professional' video in a well-lit studio like you see a lot on YT these days. But still, maybe you like it...or not. Q&A: Q: Is that the arm from Distric 9? A: No...looks a bit like it doesn't it? but no, it isn't. Q: Ur doin' it all wr0ng!11one A: Well, it didn't go up in smoke did it? and runs fine so... Q: What's the blue cord thingy on your arm? A: That is to prevent ESD, static discharge (which can kill your hardware). Q: Those fans are LOUD! A: They are, but usualy the system is actualy not that noisy. After a hardware change / upgrade, it will go 'jetfighter mode' , but usualy it's just a short 'woosh' and then pretty much silent. Q: Stupid, a new i7 or AMD Ryzen is faster! A: But also way more expensive! This whole set, the server, the CPU's, RAM, and heatsink cost me less than a Ryzen 1700 or i7 CPU only! Q: There's 2 CPU's in the anti-static bag. A: One is the extra E5540, the other is the 'old' E5504 which came with the server when I bought it. I've bought 2 E5540's and already installed 1 of them earlier, and had to wait untill I got a second heatsink to install the other. Q: What is the big red card for? A: It's a GeForce 9600 GT to provide an image on the screen :P The onboard Ati (Rage I think?) only has VGA and resolutions up to 12xx something, low resolution anyway, and I only have digital inputs on my screen. I am planning to switch the 9600 for something...smaller, with propper HDMI (with audio...the ML350 doesn't have sound) and less power hungry (not that 9600 uses a lot but...it does demand a 6 pin power connector). Full specs: HP Proliant ML350 Gen 6 Intel Xeon E5540 2,53Ghz 4 cores 8 threads x2 (so 8 cores 16 threads total) 12GB RAM triple channel (6GB per CPU) GeForce 9600GT 512MB (was a lot back in the day...) 512MB FBWC for the Smart Array P410i Im using the system mostly for storage (it has 7 sata connectors onboard, 6 sata/SAS in the front, and lot's of space and it's dirt cheap compared to normal PC's). But also plan on doing some video stuff on it, which works quite well with 8 cores 16 threads. Dispite it's low clock speed 2,53Ghz (which boosts to 2,66Ghz most of the time) it actualy is faster with video rendering than my i5 3470 turboing at 3,6Ghz.

Link to blogpost: https://thesysadminchannel.com/how-to-setup-raid-10-on-an-hp-proliant-360p-gen8/ Typically in any environment, using RAID 0 is not best of ideas, simply because there is no fault tolerance. If one drive in that array goes belly up, POOF!! there goes all your data. RAID 1 was somewhat of a viable option since it did allow for mirroring, but I wanted something a little more robust in terms of fault tolerance. RAID 5 was next on my list, and while it did have parity to allow for disk failure, the chances of a second disk going out while I was looking for hard drives on amazon would have been very probably. Plus the fact that I wanted to give it the look and feel of something at the enterprise level. My choice led me to Setup RAID 10 on my HP ProLiant 360p Gen8 server. RAID 10 Pros and Cons: Pros: - RAID 10 is fast! Since it uses both Striping and Mirroring, you get the best of both worlds and can get to your data quickly. - It's robust and fault tolerant. RAID 10 allows for 2 disk failures and the recovery time is fast. Cons: - RAID 10 uses half the space of the raw storage. So for example, if you had 1TB of raw storage, a little less than 500GB would available as usable storage. - RAID 10 requires a minimum of 4 hard drives. For some people, this can get a little pricey. Why should I use RAID 10 over RAID 6: - RAID 10 is faster and performs much better for situations where speed is factor. (Isn't it always) - It should be used for database servers with high IO.
