Digital marketing (aka online marketing or sometimes even internet marketing) can be tricky, especially without a solid digital marketing strategy. Which is why on this episode we’re talking about the ever important, digital marketing basics, basic marketing techniques to grow your business. Without a solid foundation rooted in digital marketing strategy all the marketing tools & tips to grow your business just won’t work. Whether it’s social media, SEO, email marketing, or online advertising, the way to make your digital marketing campaigns truly effective is to first start with a solid foundation rooted in the fundamentals. A little bit of marketing research done ahead of time can literally save you thousands (for big campaigns even hundreds of thousands) of dollars and days, weeks, months, even years of your precious time. So what exactly are the basic digital marketing strategies I'm talking about? STEP 1: Define your target market This step really can’t be overstated. In fact, it really doesn’t matter whether we’re talking traditional or digital marketing, the same concept applies in that you NEED to first identify who it is you’re trying to reach. This is because only from here can you decide what to say, how to say it, and where to say it. The better you understand your target market and their dreams and fears the better and more effective your marketing will be. Step 2: Use native content If you want to look like an amateur entrepreneur then simply create a piece of content and blast it out across all 15 different social media networks you use. Sure, there’s a time and a place for syndicating and sharing content (we’re all busy and it saves a lot of time when done right) but you also want to be respectful of the platforms, and more importantly, of the viewers and users of that platform. So when you can, try to make your content looks like it was made for the channel, and that it belongs there. Step 3: Track everything Measure your marketing metrics! The first step here is to know your KPI’s or key performance indicators so you can track what’s working and what’s not. Pat was an architect, and now he's just like, "Hey let me create a blog telling people and showing them "how I'm making money online "and let me even show 'em my numbers "and prove that these are my real stats." And people love it. It's all about being transparent, his marketing has taken off, and he's one of the most popular bloggers and even podcasters out there because he's transparent. And that's the cool part. By being transparent, you're gonna get a following of people being like, "Oh, cool, you're showing all of your amazing moments "and all your terrible moments." If you want to be transparent with your social media marketing leave a comment with your ideas and I'll tell you if it's going to work or if it won't. I've tested a lot of this stuff out, like on the Neil Patel blog; I shared my journey all the way from going from zero to a hundred thousand visitors a month. #3: Use videos. Look, you're watching me. You know the past few months I've been doing a ton of videos, I've been going to conferences, events, and you know what people have been saying? Neil, you have amazing content. I'm like, "Great you love my content. "What was the latest piece of content that you liked?" I'm just trying to get feedback on how I can improve. And they're like, "Oh, your video on X, Y, and Z topic." They're not talking about my podcasts; they're not talking about my blog content even though my blog content gets way more traffic. Everyone's talking about my video content. Why is that? It's because it's helping me build a deeper connection with you. Sure, there are lots of comments on my videos, but I also do that in my blog comments. Why isn't my blog growing as fast? People want videos; it's how they connect with one another. So, create videos. It's not about text-based content these days; it's not about audio-based content, if you want to stand out from the crowd it's all about videos. #4: Be a long-term thinker. Look at Gary Vaynerchuk; you think he's successful, right? He is. Did it happen overnight? No, it didn't. He had Wine Library TV before that, then he created his agency, then did the DailyVee, and eventually, yes, you're seeing him everywhere, but it took him a long time before he got to where he is. And the same with me. You think I'm an overnight success? No, I've been doing this for over 16 years. That's a long time. No, you don't have to put in 16 years like I am before you start seeing results and making money, but if you want to really succeed in the marketing world, you have to think of it as a three-plus year plan. Don't expect amazing things in the first six months; you'll see some traction. After the first year, you're going to start seeing growth. After the second year, things are going to start skyrocketing. After three years, assuming you're pushing hard every single week, then things are going to start blowing up. But, if you don't do it consistently you won't do well. It's all about the long game. That's a bunch of BS. Today, I'm going to share with you how I built a six-figure business in 90 days using Facebook ads and how you can too. Sign up for Facebook Ads then sign up for Webinar Jam. Webinar jam is a webinar software that allows you educate and sell people online. You see all these ads on YouTube and Facebook for people saying, 'register for my webinar.' Why do you think they're doing them? It's because it's an easy way to make money, and I hate to say it most of the people who are doing this, suck at everything other than selling on the webinar. They don't have that many skills. Why don't I do it anymore? I don't care for the money, but I'll share with you how you can do it step by step, so the first thing, as I mentioned, sign up for Webinar Jam. Webinar Jam is a software that allows you to do a webinar and sell on there. They also have this other software called EverWebinar, which you'll also need, and it allows you to do a webinar once, but make it recorded so that way your webinar continuously seems like you're holding a new one every 15 minutes. So, people can sign up and then join your webinar. Now that you've got your webinar up and running and going create a webinar. The webinar can be on anything, how to create an Amazon business, how to do something that you're good at. Something that other people want to learn. So with your webinar, the first part is educating. The first 30 to 40 minutes of your webinar presentation should be educating. Showing tips, techniques, strategies that they haven't seen before. And then after you did that you're like, 'Hey, did you like these techniques?' Did you think they were amazing? There are amazing techniques, but I have ones that are way better. Would you like to hear those? Do I have your permission? And the reason you are asking their permission, is because you're asking them, hey, can I sell you something in other words, right? Then, on the webinar, sell it to them for a price. The price could be a thousand bucks. Usually, you want to have somewhere between $500 and a thousand five hundred. But the price that you choose has to be discounted. So, if you're selling it for $500, the original price needs to be $2000, $3000, or whatever it may be. With Webinar Jam, you can also put a countdown clock. Right in their settings, they break down that you can put a timer. When you put a timer, it tells people that this offers only valid until the end of this webinar or the next week, or whatever you decide that you want to end up using. And when you do that, people know time sensitive. And when it's time sensitive, they're much more likely to buy instead of thinking if they want to buy. Now that you've got the webinar up and running, you want to drive traffic. Through Webinar Jam, you can just throw up a landing page, get people to opt-in. You want to keep it simple. Maybe have an image of you. Tell people what they are going to expect on the webinar, and then an opt-in. And then when there's opt-in, you can use Twilio, people will get a text reminder, and they'll start joining. And then as they join and they show up to the webinar, you'll start getting sales. And when you are having your webinar timing so when they can sign up and listen to it, make sure you have a webinar that starts every 15 minutes. Remember, it's recorded, you don't have to be in the webinar every 15 minutes. Instead, other people can just join whenever they want, that means that when you're sleeping, you could be making money. How to Make Money With Facebook Ads - The Numbers And you give you a rough idea; I was selling a thousand dollar product. For every hundred webinar registrations, I would get 3.6 sales, and roughly 20% would refund. I would still make well over $2000, and for those hundred webinar registrations in general, I would be paying six bucks per webinar registration. So, that means I'm spending $600 to make more than $2000, right, I don't know what the exact math works out to, but I think it's around like $2500, or $2800, after refunds or even three grand, whatever it may be. But the point I'm trying to say is, the math works out well. Facebook advertising can be extremely lucrative if you have the right Facebook marketing strategy.

He finds that it is hard with Google filters to make it to the inbox and people are just not even really checking their emails, so he's not even convinced that he should use email marketing with his agency. 0:30 First off, anytime a business operates, they need email. Yes, there's Slack, there's Skype, there are many other communication channels, but businesses still revolve around email, and if businesses still use it, you can bet that if you get an email in their inbox and they read it, you can generate sales. 1:00 For that reason, emails aren't going away. Gmail ads are growing in revenue, more and more people every single quarter are leveraging Gmail ads just because they know emails are powerful. So the first part of your question is, are emails valuable, yes. I know that's not directly what you answered, but the second part, which I'll get to is, do they still work, yes, because people still read emails. 1:50 GDPR has come out, and with GDPR, and I love it you have to put a little tick box saying, yes I authorize you to send me weekly emails. So that way they know what they're getting into and you'll find that that increases your open rates because the people who click that tick box want your emails. 2:15 The second thing that most people don't tell you with email marketing is, you need to scrub your list. If you have 100,000 email list, and that's usually the threshold, once you hit 100,000 you're going to notice that your email open rates just start tanking and it's because people don't clean their lists often enough, I clean my list monthly. And some email providers do this like ConvertKit does this I don't think MailChimp does this, but I think MailChimp wants you to keep paying out money for the inactive emails. 2:45 The whole purpose of cleaning the emails are for the people who aren't opening your emails and engaging, you just stop sending them emails. And by doing that yes your email list shrinks, but what you'll find is, the people you send the emails to the engagement goes up, and Gmail and Outlook look at engagement more than anyone else and it's a really high priority, for if they're going to put the email in the inbox and if you're only sending emails to majority of the people open it and you start having 20-30% open rates, you'll notice that your emails go into the inbox versus the Promotion tabs. 4:00 Don't use email templates, use text-based emails and add in links. You also don't wanna add more than three links to your site; I try only to do one. If you add in too many, you're going to notice that you also won't see amazing deliverability. 4:15 Make sure you whitelist your emails. So go to AOL, they whitelist, you can use services like Return Path. Outlook and Gmail don't do whitelist services. But if you follow these tips, you'll be good to go. And you'll get in the inbox. 4:30 Make sure you test creative subject lines like ones that your friends would send, lower case, things like hey did you see this, right? Of course, it needs to be relevant to your business or the offer you're producing, if you dupe people they're going to get upset, I'm giving you an extreme case so you can try to have the creative juices start flowing and come up with really good ideas. Transcript [VO]: You want your business to grow -- you want to win more customers and make more sales. But how do you do that when budgets are tight, and your time is limited? Some of your competitors have plenty of cash to throw around and make a noise. They can run expensive TV ads, or buy full-page spreads in the national newspapers to build their brands. So how can you -- the smaller business owner -- compete? The answer lies in integrated marketing. Meet Tom. He owns Tom's Tours -- an independent travel company. Tom creates one-of-a-kind travel packages for his customers. He's not competing directly with the big holiday companies, but in the past he has struggled to get his voice heard. He used Facebook and Twitter when he had the time, and every now and then took out adverts in newspapers and magazines. The problem was his marketing was irregular, and his messaging inconsistent. But it doesn't stop there because that voice begins to resonate with other people. They become fans on Facebook, followers on Twitter, subscribers on YouTube, commenters in forums and on blog posts. They're no longer just customers, they're advocates and ambassadors. In fact, they act like a tribe, echoing Tom's message to a wider audience. The result?
