How? and Why? to Reset The System Management Controller (SMC Reset)

*2019 UPDATE: Tools and Parts Store now up and running at www.appledollars.com/store *2019 UPDATE: Help Support this channel buy buying our tool kit here https://bit.ly/2Jd39LX *2018 UPDATE: The charger is a critical component to the SMC reset process. Make sure to test your charger or purchase a new one here for all models 2008-2012 here https://bit.ly/2M1b39o and all models 2013-2018 here https://bit.ly/2szTFQT A System Management Controller (SMC) Rest can fix many Macbook and iMac problems as well as Mac Mini and Mac Pro. This video will show you exactly how to reset the SMC step by step as well as other hints and notes about the reset process. On Macbooks (Pros and Airs) plug in the MagSafe charger and wait until you see that the battery is charging (red or yellow light). Press and hold down CONTROL + OPTION + LEFT SHIFT + POWER BUTTON for 5 seconds, when you let go, observe the MagSafe light indicator color, it should turn green then a few seconds later back to orange or red. This will let you know that the SMC has been reset. On iMacs, Mac Pros, Mac Minis, disconnect the power cord then press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds. Plug the system back in and start normally, the SMC is now reset. The SMC is in change of a lot of information and is one of the most essential controller chips on the logic board. More information can be found at www.appledollars.com/reset-smc/ Here is a list of problems resolved by reseting the SMC: * The computer fans run at high speed, though the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated. * The keyboard backlight behaves incorrectly on Mac computers that have this feature. * The status indicator light (SIL) behaves incorrectly on Mac computers that have this feature. * Battery indicator lights, if present, behave incorrectly on Mac notebooks that have a non-removable battery. * The display backlight doesn't respond correctly to ambient light changes on Mac computers that have this feature. * The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed. * A Mac notebook computer doesn't respond properly when you close or open the lid. * The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly. * The battery doesn't charge properly. * The MagSafe power adapter LED doesn't indicate the correct activity. * The computer is performing unusually slowly, though it isn't experiencing abnormally high CPU utilization. * Application icons may bounce in the Dock for an extended amount of time when opened. * Applications may not function correctly, or they may stop responding after being opened. * A computer that supports target display mode does not switch into or out of target display mode as expected, or it switches into or out of target display mode at unexpected times. * The illumination around the I/O ports on a Mac Pro (Late 2013) does not activate when you move the computer. Option key

07:51
The Option key is a modifier key present on Apple keyboards. It is located between the Control key and Command key on a typical Mac keyboard. There are two option keys on modern Mac desktop and notebook keyboards, one on each side of the space bar. Apple commonly uses the symbol U+2325 ⌥ option key to represent the Option key. From 1980 to 1984, on the Apple II family, this key was known as the closed apple key, and had a black line drawing of a filled-in apple on it. (See command key for information about the history and the "open apple".) This video is targeted to blind users. How to Work Faster & More Efficiently on a Mac

23:13
I Guarantee I Can Teach You to Master Photoshop. Learn How: https://phlearn.com/aaronwillteachyou How to Work Faster & More Efficiently on a Mac Recently I was using a friends brand new Mac and I couldn’t believe how difficult it was to navigate well. I offered to change a few settings on his computer and after we finished, workflow became lighting fast. Knowing I make tutorials on YouTube, he said “You gotta make this into a tutorial”. So here it is. In this video I will show you how I have my own computers set up to work faster and more efficiently. If you have tips on increasing speed and efficiency, share them in a comment! – Aaron Nace General Preferences & Settings There are many things you can do with the general settings on your Mac, here are the settings I recommend. Mouse/Trackpad Tracking Speed – Go Lighting Fast! It may be a little tough in the beginning, but I highly recommend setting your Tracking Speed on your mouse or trackpad as high as you possibly can. Then in a couple of weeks, try making it even faster. Here is why – the faster the Tracking Speed, the less you have to move your hand to navigate your computer, this means you can get from one side of the screen to the other FASTER! Hide the Dock I suggest making the dock as small as possible and checking the box – Automatically hide and show the Dock. When you need to access the Dock, simply bring your cursor to the bottom of the screen. Congrats, you have just freed up 10% of your screen! Mission Control & Hot Corners Mission Control is one of the best productivity tools a Mac User can use. Mission Control allows you to use multiple desktops and quickly see and organize what is on each desktop. For instance, you can have your internet browser open in full screen on one desktop, and Photoshop opened in full screen on another desktop – all while using the same monitor. I have found that the easiest way to access Mission Control is through setting up a Hot Corner. To set up Hot Corners, open the Mac Preferences and go to Mission Control. Click the ‘Hot Corners…’ button on the bottom left of the dialog box. Here you can turn the corners of your screen into a shortcut. You have many options here, my preference is to set up the top right corner as “Mission Control.” This way, any time you bring your cursor to the top right of the screen, Mission Control opens and you can see all of your apps and desktops in one view. Once you are using Mission Control, add more desktops by clicking the + Plus icon on the top right of your screen. Drag apps to the new desktops and use Mission Control to switch to the desktops. You can also use keyboard Shortcut CONTROL + LEFT ARROW / RIGHT ARROW to cycle through desktops. Apps for Efficiency There are many apps that will increase efficiency on your Mac, in this tutorial we cover two of my favorite apps – “Better Snap Tool” and “Daisy Disk” Better Snap Tool The Better Snap Tool (Available in the App Store) allows you to snap windows to different part of the screen quickly and easily. How often have you wanted two web pages open side-by-side on your screen? Better Snap Tool makes this very easy, just click and drag one window to the left side of the screen and the other to the right. Need to make a window full-screen? Just drag the window to the top of the screen. Daisy Disk Daisy Disk (Available in the App Store) displays all of the files and folders on your computer in a visual layout. The layout looks like a pie chart, making it easy to see what files and folders are taking up more space on your computer. There is also a built-in tool for removing any files or folders you don’t want, simply drag them to the bottom of the window. Keyboard Shortcuts Keyboard shortcuts are great time-savers. Instead of browsing through menus, simply press a few buttons and get the job done! Switch Apps – CMD+TAB Cycle through Desktops – CONTROL+LEFT ARROW / RIGHT ARROW Spotlight – Search any app or file on your computer – CMD+SPACEBAR Close Window – CMD+W Close App – CMD+Q New Window – CMD+N New Tab – CMD+T VISIT PHLEARN.COM FOR MORE FREE TUTORIALS https://phlearn.com SUBSCRIBE NOW FOR MORE FREE TIPS AND TRICKS http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=phlearnllc GET FREE TUTORIALS SENT TO YOUR EMAIL + DISCOUNTS ON OUR PRO TUTORIALS! https://phlearn.com/mail LET'S BE FRIENDS! Apple Final Cut Pro X: Create a Basic Green-Screen Key - Larry Jordan PowerUp Webinar 256B

06:13
[This is an excerpt from a recent on-line video webinar: “Create Green-screen Keys in Apple Final Cut Pro X” which is available as a download in our store, or as part of our Video Training Library.] Green-screen keys are increasingly essential in even the smallest projects. In this short excerpt, Larry Jordan shows how to create and adjust a basic green-screen key in Apple Final Cut Pro X. SESSION DESCRIPTION Green-screen effects, also called “chroma-key effects,” allow us to easily insert an actor, or any other object, into a different background. But, how? We’ve all seen “behind-the-scenes” footage of giant green-screen stages, with vast crews and big budgets. But, what if your means are more modest? That’s where this session can help. Join host, Larry Jordan, as he illustrates different ways to use green-screen effects in Apple Final Cut Pro X, including: * Use the video scopes to properly light a green-screen key * Create a basic key * Create the illusion of depth of field * Work with badly lit source images * Remove “garbage” in the frame using Trim and masks * Have an actor peer around a background object * Use monitors as key sources * Refine color settings * Create a two-color key If you like this video, why not become a member? With membership you get access to Larry's entire webinar catalog of over 1200 videos for as little as $19.99 per month.
