Why Can't We Get Power From Waves?

03:16
Thanks to OIST for sponsoring this video. To learn more, visit https://admissions.oist.jp/ Wave power hasn’t yet made a splash because it’s hard to use waves to spin turbines, and because the sea is a harsh place to build things. Thanks also to our Patreon patrons https://www.patreon.com/MinuteEarth and our YouTube members. ___________________________________________ To learn more, start your googling with these keywords: Wave energy converter - a device for turning the mechanical energy of ocean waves into mechanical energy (flow of a substance) or electrical energy Oscillating water column - an open-bottomed chamber filled with air and water, whose wave action moves the water column up and down like a piston, forcing the air out past a turbine Attenuator - a long multisegment floating structure oriented parallel to the direction waves travel, where differing heights of waves along the length of the device flex the connections driving hydraulic pumps that can be connected to turbines Oscillating body - a floating buoy that oscillates with waves, generating electricity within the buoy or by pulling on a generator or by pumping water through a turbine Overtopping device - a reservoir filled by waves to a height higher the average nearby ocean, into which reservoir water is released, spinning a turbine Biofouling - undesirable growth of organisms like barnacles and algae on underwater surfaces Ocean wave - energy passing through water and causing it to move in a circular motion Turbine - a machine for producing continuous power in which a wheel with blades gets hit by a fast-moving flow of water, steam, gas, air, or other fluid, and spins (often connected to a magnet that spins) Induction - the production of an electric current in a wire by movement of a nearby magnetic field ___________________________________________ If you liked this week’s video, you might also like: Why Wave Power Has Lagged Far Behind as Energy Source https://e360.yale.edu/features/why_wave_power_has_lagged_far_behind_as_energy_source _________________________________________ Subscribe to MinuteEarth on YouTube: http://goo.gl/EpIDGd Support us on Patreon: https://goo.gl/ZVgLQZ And visit our website: https://www.minuteearth.com/ Say hello on Facebook: http://goo.gl/FpAvo6 And Twitter: http://goo.gl/Y1aWVC And download our videos on itunes: https://goo.gl/sfwS6n ___________________________________________ Credits: Script Writer & Narrator: Alex Reich Video Illustrator: Arcadi Garcia Rius Video Directors: David Goldenberg & Julián Gómez With Contributions From: Henry Reich, Kate Yoshida, Ever Salazar, Peter Reich, David Goldenberg Music by: Nathaniel Schroeder: http://www.soundcloud.com/drschroeder ___________________________________________ References: Aderinto, T., & Li, H. 2018. Quantum Entanglement and the Key to Gravity - PHOENIX Theory

14:42
With PhOENIX - The Physics Of Entanglements, Networks, and Information eXchanges we have shown for the first time how energy becomes trapped on vertices to create what we know as "particles", and why those particles have charge, and interact the way they do. Learn More about the theory here: http://www.HoverBrothers.com/theory/ We post articles and information here daily: http://www.facebook.com/HoverBrothers Back in December of 2015 Stephen Wolfram Published an article on his blog titled “What is space time, really?” In this article he masterfully outlines a new computational framework for looking at our Universe and a path which he believes could lead to a complete theory of physics, unifying quantum physics and relativity, through finding the most simplistic discrete building blocks and rules for the known universe, using an algorithmic method similar to what he wrote about in “A New Kind of Science”, his fascinating 1,000+ page tome on how highly complex patterns could emerge from simple 1 dimensional, 2 bit systems using basic iteration algorithms. In this article he proposed that a new model of unified physics might be generated by using simple computational algorithms, only in 3D instead of 1. He talks about some of the key mathematical tools for constructing networks: things like knots, nodes, and graphs which are all integral parts of this new theory I’m about to present to you here today. Stephen doesn’t realize just how close he actually came to discovering it... http://blog.stephenwolfram.com/2015/12/what-is-spacetime-really/ Welcome to the era of entanglement! Quantum Physics Explained

25:34
Quantum mechanics is the branch of physics relating to the very small. It results in what may appear to be some very strange conclusions about the physical world. At the scale of atoms and electrons, many of the equations of classical mechanics, which describe how things move at everyday sizes and speeds, cease to be useful. In classical mechanics, objects exist in a specific place at a specific time. However, in quantum mechanics, objects instead exist in a haze of probability; they have a certain chance of being at point A, another chance of being at point B and so on. Three revolutionary principles Quantum mechanics (QM) developed over many decades, beginning as a set of controversial mathematical explanations of experiments that the math of classical mechanics could not explain. It began at the turn of the 20th century, around the same time that Albert Einstein published his theory of relativity, a separate mathematical revolution in physics that describes the motion of things at high speeds. Unlike relativity, however, the origins of QM cannot be attributed to any one scientist. Rather, multiple scientists contributed to a foundation of three revolutionary principles that gradually gained acceptance and experimental verification between 1900 and 1930. They are: Quantized properties: Certain properties, such as position, speed and color, can sometimes only occur in specific, set amounts, much like a dial that "clicks" from number to number. This challenged a fundamental assumption of classical mechanics, which said that such properties should exist on a smooth, continuous spectrum. To describe the idea that some properties "clicked" like a dial with specific settings, scientists coined the word "quantized." Particles of light: Light can sometimes behave as a particle. This was initially met with harsh criticism, as it ran contrary to 200 years of experiments showing that light behaved as a wave; much like ripples on the surface of a calm lake. Light behaves similarly in that it bounces off walls and bends around corners, and that the crests and troughs of the wave can add up or cancel out. Added wave crests result in brighter light, while waves that cancel out produce darkness. A light source can be thought of as a ball on a stick being rhythmically dipped in the center of a lake. The color emitted corresponds to the distance between the crests, which is determined by the speed of the ball's rhythm. Waves of matter: Matter can also behave as a wave. This ran counter to the roughly 30 years of experiments showing that matter (such as electrons) exists as particles. There's A New Form Of Matter That Exists In Four Dimensions!

03:49
Being first theorized in 2012, time crystals have been created in the lab! How were two separate teams of scientists able to make this new form of matter a reality? How Quantum Computing Will Change The World! - https://youtu.be/3BKIJCTLy-s Sign Up For The Seeker Newsletter Here - http://bit.ly/1UO1PxI Read More: Scientists have confirmed a brand new phase of matter: time crystals http://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-have-just-announced-a-brand-new-form-of-matter-time-crystals "Now it's official - researchers have just reported in detail how to make and measure these bizarre crystals. And two independent teams of scientists claim they've actually created time crystals in the lab based off this blueprint, confirming the existence of an entirely new phase of matter. The discovery might sound pretty abstract, but it heralds in a whole new era in physics - for decades we've been studying matter that's defined as being 'in equilibrium', such as metals and insulators." Physicists Create World's First Time Crystal https://www.technologyreview.com/s/602541/physicists-create-worlds-first-time-crystal/ "Today, we get an answer thanks to the work of Chris Monroe at the University of Maryland in College Park and a few pals, who have created a time crystal in their laboratory for the first time. The basic process for making time crystals is straightforward. The idea is to create a quantum system, such as a group of ions arranged in a ring, and cool them until they are in their lowest energy state. In these circumstances, the laws of physics would suggest that the ring should be perfectly stationary." Viewpoint: How to Create a Time Crystal http://physics.aps.org/articles/v10/5 "The story of time crystals-whose lowest-energy configurations are periodic in time rather than space-epitomizes the creative ideas, controversy, and vigorous discussion that lie at the core of the scientific process. Originally theorized by Frank Wilczek in 2012, time crystals were met with widespread attention, but also a healthy dose of skepticism. This ignited a debate in the literature, culminating in a proof that time crystals cannot exist in thermal equilibrium, as originally imagined by Wilczek. But the tale did not end there." ____________________ DNews is dedicated to satisfying your curiosity and to bringing you mind-bending stories & perspectives you won't find anywhere else! How Entropy Powers The Earth (Big Picture Ep. 4/5)

03:15
This video is about how we don't just need energy to power our lives, we need *low entropy* energy! Thanks to Google Making and Science for supporting this series, and to Sean Carroll for collaborating on it! His book can be found here: http://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/316646/the-big-picture-by-sean-carroll/ Playlist of the full video series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoaVOjvkzQtyZF-2VpJrxPz7bxK_p1Dd2 Link to Patreon supporters here: http://www.minutephysics.com/supporters.html This video is about how we don't just need energy to power our lives, we need *low entropy* energy! This is also known as "free energy", and one way of thinking about entropy is as the lack of free energy. The sun provides us with useful, low entropy, energy in the form of photons of visible light, which are then absorbed and converted into plants, sugar, complex molecules, etc, before being radiated back into space as heat, which has much higher entropy. Humans and Energy: Crash Course World History 207

07:21
In which Stan Muller subs for John Green and teaches you about energy and humanity. Today we discuss the ideas put forth by Alfred Crosby in his book, Children of the Sun. Historically, almost all of the energy that humans use has been directly or indirectly generated by the sun, whether that be food energy from plants, wind energy, direct solar energy, or fossil fuels. Stan looks into these different sources, and talks about how humanity will continue to use energy in the future as populations grow and energy resources become more scarce. Energy is a conserved quantity; the law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed. The SI unit of energy is the joule, which is the energy transferred to an object by the work of moving it a distance of 1 metre against a force of 1 newton. Common forms of energy include the kinetic energy of a moving object, the potential energy stored by an object's position in a force field (gravitational, electric or magnetic), the elastic energy stored by stretching solid objects, the chemical energy released when a fuel burns, the radiant energy carried by light, and the thermal energy due to an object's temperature. Mass and energy are closely related. Due to mass–energy equivalence, any object that has mass when stationary (called rest mass) also has an equivalent amount of energy whose form is called rest energy, and any additional energy (of any form) acquired by the object above that rest energy will increase the object's total mass just as it increases its total energy. For example, after heating an object, its increase in energy could be measured as a small increase in mass, with a sensitive enough scale. Living organisms require available energy to stay alive, such as the energy humans get from food. Human civilization requires energy to function, which it gets from energy resources such as fossil fuels, nuclear fuel, or renewable energy. The processes of Earth's climate and ecosystem are driven by the radiant energy Earth receives from the sun and the geothermal energy contained within the earth.

Consciousness Creates Reality - Quantum Physics Explains

Consciousness Creates Reality - Quantum Physics Explains READ FULL ARTICLE HERE - http://369news.net/2018/05/22/consciousness-creates-reality-quantum-physics-explains/ Have you ever seen yourself through the eyes of someone else that you have become, and looked at yourself through the eyes of the ultimate observer? Who are we? Where do we come from? And what is our purpose in life? In a world full of endless possibilities, why do we keep creating the same realities? Isn’t it amazing that we have so many options and potentials that exist and yet we are unaware of them? Is it possible that we are so conditioned to our daily routines and the way we create our lives, that we buy the idea that we have no control at all? We have been conditioned to believe that the external world is more real the internal world. This new way at looking at science is just the opposite. It says what’s happing within us will create what’s happening outside of us. “Consciousness creates reality.” This statement has changed the scientific and medical landscape, and alternative media outlets around the world. Countless scientists study this idea and how it might be correlated with the nature of our reality. It raises the question, what is consciousness? Consciousness includes a number of things. It’s how we perceive our world, it’s our thoughts and intentions, it’s being aware, and so much more. “Looking for consciousness in the brain is like looking in the radio for the announcer.” – Nasseim Haramein, Director of Research for the Resonance Project The notion that “consciousness creates reality” raises so many questions. Does this mean we as individuals (and on a collective level, as one human race) can shape and create whatever reality we’d like for ourselves? Does it mean we can manifest a certain lifestyle, and attract certain experiences? website for universal truth - http://www.369universe.com http://369news.net If you wish to make a small Donation click on the link below: Thank you 🙏💗 PayPal Donation Link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=6QHHNJVALEQDN

The Path to Safe Fusion Energy through Deep Learning

04:47
When the plasma inside a fusion reactor becomes unstable, there can be a release of energy that seriously damages the reactor. Key to preventing damage is predicting when these disruptions are about to happen. Professor William Tang of Princeton has successfully created a neural network that predicts these disruptions to a high level of accuracy, and was invited to give a talk at SDSC on his work. Tang's neural network is tuned specifically to predict disruptions, but the techniques used to train the neural network have crosscutting applications to other areas of scientific interest like cancer research. More about Professor Tang's research has been published in the journal Nature... In this video I address solar energy and particularly solar photovoltaics. The topic, especially the mathematics and physics used to describe the underlying processes are quite complicated. The Man Put His Head In a Particle Accelerator, See What Happened

09:01
A particle accelerator is something that scientists use to study the behavior of particles and conduct physics experiments. These machines use an electromagnetic field to make tiny particles move at practically the speed of light: a whopping 186,000 miles per second! So, yeah, a guy stuck his head in one of those… and actually survived! The incident happened in Russia on July 13, 1978. Anatoli Bugorski was a researcher at the Institute for High Energy Physics and worked with the U-70 Synchrotron, the biggest Soviet atom smasher of the time. On that unfortunate day, the scientist was trying to figure out why a piece of the equipment wasn’t working as it should. As he was leaning over the machine, the safety mechanism failed at the worst possible moment. It turned out that the scientist’s head was right in the path of a powerful proton beam moving at the speed of light. You ready to hear all about it? Then watch the video! TIMESTAMPS: What particle accelerator do 1:05 The most famous particle accelerator 1:33 Where and ahen the incident happened 2:59 What happenes with that man 3:31 Why doctors couldn't predict the consequences 4:27 What were the consequences 4:57 What if he had stuck his head in the Large Hadron Collider? 5:37 Where the Large Hadron Collider is located 6:01 Can is pose a serious threat to Earth? 7:43 #particleaccelerator #largehadroncollider #sciense Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - The most famous particle accelerator in the world is the Large Hadron Collider, which is located near Geneva, Switzerland and crosses the border into France. It was invented in 1929 by physicist Ernest Lawrence, who was just 27 years old at the time by the way. - The incident happened in Russia on July 13, 1978. Anatoli Bugorski was a researcher at the Institute for High Energy Physics and worked with the U-70 Synchrotron, the biggest Soviet atom smasher of the time. - Bugorski later mentioned that he felt no pain at all but saw a light that was, in his words, "brighter than a thousand suns." The proton beam entered the back of his head and exited through his nose. Within minutes the left side of the scientist's face had swelled up like a balloon, and he was immediately rushed to the hospital. - Nobody had ever come in contact with radiation traveling at light speed before. That's why doctors couldn't predict the consequences of such an encounter. They could only wait and observe their patient for any changes in his condition. - But despite all grim expectations, the physicist survived! In fact, as of 2018, the 76-year-old still feels pretty energetic! Over time, the left side of Bugorski's face became paralyzed, which has actually prevented wrinkles from forming on that side of his face. On the bright side, the physicist’s intellect remained intact. - Situated in CERN's accelerator complex, where CERN stands for the European Organization for Nuclear Research, the Large Hadron Collider is an impressive construction to say the least. It consists of a circular tunnel that’s about 17 miles across. - The Hadron Collider consists of more than 9,600 super powerful magnets. In fact, they’re 100,000 times stronger than the gravitational pull of our planet! This makes protons move around their circular track at a seriously staggering speed. - Some scientists, however, believe that the Large Hadron Collider can pose a serious threat to Earth. Dr. Otto Rossler from the University of Tubingen is sure that the collider can trigger a small black hole that may have enough potential to destroy the planet. Although the word particle can refer to various types of very small objects (e.g. protons, Electron, gas particles, or even household dust), particle physics usually investigates the irreducibly smallest detectable particles and the fundamental interactions necessary to explain their behaviour. By our current understanding, these elementary particles are excitations of the quantum fields that also govern their interactions. The currently dominant theory explaining these fundamental particles and fields, along with their dynamics, is called the Standard Model. Thus, modern particle physics generally investigates the Standard Model and its various possible extensions, e.g. to the newest "known" particle, the Higgs boson, or even to the oldest known force field, gravity.

REALLY saving energy: Paul Wheaton at TEDxWhitefish

21:03
Paul Wheaton, the bad boy of Permaculture was proclaimed by Geoff Lawton in 2012 the Duke of Permaculture. He is the creator of two on-line communities. One is about Permaculture, Permies.com, and one is about software engineering, CodeRanch.com. He is a powerful advocate of Sepp Holzer's techniques for which a recent study showed they have the ability to feed 21 billion people without the use of petroleum or irrigation. He also promotes the use of hugelkultur, which sequesters carbon and eliminates the need for irrigation, and polycultures, which reduces the need for pest control and improves the health of plants. He wrote several articles about lawn care, raising chickens, cast iron and diatomaceous earth. Paul regularly uploads permaculture videos and permaculture podcasts. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
