Teaching Western Astrology in Modern China

01:36:12
An interview with David Railey about his work in teaching modern western astrology in China over the past decade. David is the Vice President of the International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR), and was in town last week to organize a major conference that ISAR is hosting in Denver in September of 2020. He is the author of the book The Soul Purpose: Attaining Fulfillment and Security with Astrology. In 2010 he did a tour to promote the Chinese translation of the book, and subsequently ended up setting up a school there, called the Nodoor School of Astrology: http://www.nodoor.com During the course of our discussion we talk about David's life and background in astrology, his work through the Nodoor school over the past decade, and the place of astrology in China in modern times. You can find out more information about David on his website: http://davidraileyastrologer.com This is episode 204 of The Astrology Podcast, and you can read the full episode description or download the audio version on the podcast website: http://theastrologypodcast.com/2019/05/06/teaching-western-astrology-in-modern-china/ This episode acts as a nice companion piece to episode 181, where I interviewed Dr. Jeffrey Kotyk about the history of astrology in China prior to modern times: http://theastrologypodcast.com/2018/11/19/the-transmission-of-horoscopic-astrology-to-china-japan/ For early access to new episodes and other great subscriber benefits, consider becoming a patron of the podcast: https://www.patreon.com/astrologypodcast #TheAstrologyPodcast

Salaries Teaching English In China, Korea, Japan & Taiwan

Skip ahead to salaries & wages teaching English in... Taiwan: 00:54 Korea: 04:01 China: 05:43 Japan: 07:57 Text version with more details: In Korea: http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/teaching-english-in-asia-salary#korea In China: http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/teaching-english-in-asia-salary#china In Japan: http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/teaching-english-in-asia-salary#japan In Taiwan: http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/teaching-english-in-asia-salary#taiwan How much do you need to move abroad? http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/how-much-money-do-i-need-to-move-to-korea-china-taiwan-japan Find out above how much money you need to bring to China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Cost of living: http://www.eslinsider.com/interviews/korea-money-expenses-1 http://www.eslinsider.com/interviews/china-money-expenses http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/taiwan-expenses-cost-of-living Do ESL teachers with TEFL certificates, teaching related degrees and experience make more money? http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/do-esl-teachers-with-experience-related-degrees-or-tefl-certificates-make-more-money You can make good money teaching abroad. Find out more above about the salaries/wages ESL teachers make. The best places for making money teaching English are in Eastern Asia and the Middle East. Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China can be good in Asia. In the Middle East UAE, Dubai, Oman and Saudi Arabia can be good. You usually need good qualifications to teach in the Middle East. Korea is usually the best place for money in Asia since they'll cover your airfare, your housing, give you severance at the end of a year and a pension for some. It's pretty easy to save $1000 a month there and then collect a few more thousand at the end of your contract. Japan can be good, but the cost of living is higher. There aren't really benefits either. You might be able to save a $1000 a month, but you have to find cheap housing and be frugal. In Taiwan you could save a $1000 a month with the right job and you might have to work a bit more and be frugal. There aren't really any benefits there either. In some places you might be able to save a $1000 a month in China, but that depends a lot on where you are and what school you are working for and... Salaries vary a lot in China. 4,000-15,000RMB. You can look that up. You can make more in the big cities. If you want to work hard then you can do that and of course save more, but it means working long hours and taking a couple of jobs. WHAT'S IT REALLY LIKE TO TEACH IN EAST ASIA? http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/teach-english-in-china http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/teach-english-in-korea http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/teach-english-in-japan http://www.eslinsider.com/blog/teach-english-in-taiwan And/or check out: http://www.eslinsider.com/where-should-i-teach-china-korea-japan-or-taiwan ************************************************* Money is just part of it. How NOT to Start Teaching ESL English Online

17:17
Avoid these pitfalls when you are starting your ESL or English teaching career online or offline! In this video I tell you how NOT to start teaching ESL online. Even if you are an experience or qualified teacher, you will learn how NOT to structure your online English teaching career. First of all, there are tons of companies that want you to spend money getting certified. The truth is that you don't need to. If you're looking for a job, then you're better off learning what you need to know, instead of paying for a piece of paper. Most people who have those pieces of paper like TEFL , CELTA, TKT certificates don't know much about teaching ESL online or offline. If you want to get results for your students, then you definitely don't need those pieces of paper because TEFL courses do not teach you how to do that. Another trap to avoid is online companies like VIPKID or iTutor Company or ABCTutor or a number of others. These are large Chinese companies that specialize in chewing up newbie and wannabe teachers left and right and spitting them out within a few months (if not sooner). You are going to waste a lot of time dealing with them and make very little money when it is all said and done. Another thing to be weary of is online platforms that tell you that you can choose your own hourly rate and set your our hours of availability and that they will find students for you. These platforms take huge percentages of your money and can change the terms and conditions of your partnership so fast that you could be left without a business. It's always better to build your business on a platform controlled by you. The last category of things to look out for when you're getting into the ESL industry is "guys online" who want to sell you programs that show you how to start an ESL career. They might tell you that you can do it yourself on Skype or that they've got tons of students and will show you how to get students too. You know what - I'm one of those guys! I have a free program and a paid program that shows you how to get clients, make money, and how to set up a successful and profitable teaching business online. When you see offers from guys like this, do your homework and make sure that they've actually set up a successful business of their own! You would be surprised, but the majority of these people haven't actually set up a real teaching business. The overall message here is that it is better to spend your time and money investing in yourself, than investing it into a company that is supposed to get clients for you or pay you an hourly wage. Teaching English to Kids in 5 Fun Steps

04:01
Need help? You can start learning a whole lot more about how to teach English to kids with ESLinsider's advanced course. The advanced course goes into detail especially in regards to classroom management which is often a challenge when you teach kids. It also offers feedback, support and interaction with a real human which is not common in many of the cheaper courses. About the video: These are 5 fun steps to teaching kids English. In this video you'll see a method for teaching kids English using the "PPP" (Presentation, Practice and Production) style of lesson planning. You will learn how to teach English to children and much of this method can also be applied to teaching other levels too. Such as adults. But the "PPP" style is best for low level learners. Also in this video you will learn some fun games and activities that you can add to your lesson. These will make your lessons more fun and more effective if used correctly. This video was filmed in Busan, South Korea. This was a kindergarten class. I suspect the students here were about 5 years old or so. This method or style of teaching ESL will be effective from kindergarten through elementary school for the most part. With Elon Musk's much needed innovative leadership, it is indeed a very exciting time in history to be alive. Thank you Mr. Musk. God speed Elon Musk! I have for many years tried to create an open learning resource for all of humanity @ thecenterofthenet.com . I am a homeschooling father of 4, and teacher here in China.
