US education says no to Chinese resources

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://sc.mp/subscribe-youtube The University of Minnesota has suspended ties with Chinese tech giant Huawei in February, shortly after ending a nearly 10-year relationship with the Confucius Institute, a Chinese government programme promoting its language and culture overseas. As China-US relations hit a new low, Washington accuses Beijing of using organisations like Huawei and the Confucius Institute to undermine American interests. For the University of Minnesota, it’s a choice between rejecting these organisations or losing federal government funding. SCMP visited Minnesota to find out how the decision impacts the faculty and students.
My First Day at Culinary School in China

FOOD RANGER MERCH NOW AVAILABLE! http://bit.ly/FOODRANGER Follow me on Insta: http://bit.ly/2c5ojch And subscribe to my channel here: http://bit.ly/2cCy2ub Going to culinary school in China is something I never thought I would do. But now I'm here, in Chengdu, Sichuan, at the Sichuan Higher Institue of Cuisine on a 2 year+ 1 year internship to being a Sichuan chef. I just dropped out of my masters in international trade to come here. This is what I really want to do, and I’ll be sharing journey of becoming a Sichuan cook with you. After living in Asia 3 years and being completely spoiled by the abundance of delicious and cheap street food in China, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, and India I’ve had no incentive to cook. It’s so easy and fun to hit the street and eat new food all the time, so I honestly think in 3 years, I’ve cooked less than 10 meals for myself. As I explored the Shanghai food scene last month, It dawned on me as I was about to enter my 3rd semester at the economics school here in Sichuan that I was studying there for no reason, what I really wanted to do is continue to create content and resources for YOU, through videos and text. I was merely studying there because I thought it was a good backup plan if foodrangin’ failed. But now I feel confident it won’t. I realized that I’m really good at eating, decent at producing videos and planning them out, alright at describing flavours, but, I can’t back it up with culinary skills. Over the last 2 years I’ve been bothered by this, until I recently watched the classic Julie and Julia and learned that even Julia Child herself couldn’t cook an egg when she entered the cordon bleu in France. So here we go, I’m going full in. I’m 100% committed to this. I’m going to learn to cook Sichuan cuisine, and it’s all starting here. This is the beginning of my new journey. And I want you to follow along with me. I had an insane first few days at school, and as you can see, my skills are not there, but I’m going to keep a positive mind through all the times I stumble and mess up and really do my best to learn and create some delicious food. Follow my instagram (thefoodranger) for updates of all these adventures, and I’m going to start keeping track of the recipes that we learn once I get settled in a little more. Leave me a commend down below letting me know what you thought guys, thanks a lot! How I Learned Chinese Mandarin - My Elementary School Experience in China

04:00
My #1 question to ask native English speaker is, “Did you learn phonetics when you were little?” I am very curious about that because as an ESL (English as a Second Language) student, I was never taught phonetics. I didn’t know about phonetics until years later after I’ve learned basic English. So I don’t know how to pronounce a new word if I look it up in a paper dictionary (T_T). Sniff sniff ~~~ In this video, I am going to share with you how I was taught Chinese Mandarin in elementary school in China :D ! If you are a Chinese native, is your school system same as mine or different? 如果你也是中国人的话, 你的教学系统和我的一样吗? iChineseReader The Ultimate Digital Reading Resources for Chinese Learners

02:09:34
This 2-hour webinar is to introduce to you the powerful new features of the upgraded version of iChineseReader (爱读) and learn how to make use of it to benefit your students and teaching. The very nature of Chinese, a pictographic language with its writing and pronunciation independent from each other (语和文相对独立), determines that meaningful reading in the language is more circumscribed than in its Western alphabetic counterparts by reader's actual level of vocabulary and proficiency. To a L2 learner, a Chinese character is simply an undecipherable picture without having actually learned it. Thus Chinese reading materials can hardly of any help in language classes unless they are appropriate and relevant to the proficiency level and curriculum contents of the targeted users. In light of this, the new version, apart from the original 1000+ authentic books for extensive interest reading, offers: • 400+ leveled texts by experienced classroom teachers, spanning 20 levels and categorized under the 15 thematic topics and sub-tropics of the AP Chinese Tests; • 300+ reading passages tailored to the core knowledge areas covered by K-5 Chinese Immersion Curriculum required by the Common Core States Standards. • eQuizzes, printable worksheets and benchmark reading assessment to be integrated with your Chinese curriculum to offer differentiated instructions. This webinar will be composed of three sections. Chelsea Li, project manager of iChineseReader (爱读) and a former High school Chinese teacher, will introduce the new functions and features of the platform. Ying Jin, an experienced Chinese teacher from Cupertino High School, will demonstrate her effective strategies of using iChineseReader (爱读) to improve students' reading skills in Chinese as a foreign language classes from Beginner to AP levels. Alice Kuang, a Mandarin and English bi-literacy teacher in Mandarin immersion programs, will show you how classroom teachers can use Running Records from iChineseReader (爱读) to record and monitor what progress students are making, and to quickly determine a starting place for students to begin selecting books to read independently, as well as how to take, score and interpret reliable records.

Are Chinese schools effective in teaching Mandarin to busy Expats?

18:05
Comparing www.edugora.com with the other resources such as Schools 🏫 that are fixed in what they teach by following a textbook 📚 which it’s not much towards your own needs. You just follow the textbook and go from one lesson to the next whether you are particularly interested in it or not. Equally you are moved at a certain pace, especially if you are in a large class you don’t have much chance to go over something. Obviously as an individual learner with some things you get much quicker and with other things you may struggle. By having a personalized system that adapts to your own needs rather than you adapting to the system it’s way better.

How can such wanton generosity be allowed?” - law professor, Xu Zhangrun. China has just offered Africa another $60 billion for emerging economic developments, but is this a slight of hand aimed at funnelling out the continent’s resources, or is it a sincere gesture of assistance? Chinese Street Food and Travel for Cheap in China! Traveling the world for cheap is not easy, but meeting up with Kevin Cook from Monkey Abroad to shoot his traveling the world for $20 per day series was a lot of fun! I took him around to some of the best Chinese street food in Chengdu, China, and we explored some local areas and had a great trip. Kevin is about to begin a trip traveling the world with no money alone (well, he's budgeted $20 per day, very cheap). In China, he's eating Chinese street food and other cuisine from cheap restaurants. In Chengdu, I gave him the full Chengdu food tour of my favourite places for cheap as well! First, we visited this local market near the outskirts of Chengdu, Sichuan, China, and found Chinese street food and the atmosphere to be mind blowing and exciting. It was truly an experience visiting this Chinese street market! So much food and Sichuan ingredients, so many flavours to try! We visited this morning market on a Friday morning in Chengdu at 9am with an empty stomach and not much money to blow with the goal of tasting some local dishes. Rather than trying hot pot in Chengdu or hot pot in Chongqing, you could try some way cooler food in Chengdu at local market or a noodle joint like this. This should be a top priority in my opinion! Please like: www.facebook.com/foodrangin The addresses of the locations in the video are: Themarket: 农贸市场 (Nóngmào shìchǎng) 青羊区苏坡中路5-10号 (qīngyáng qū sū pō zhōnglù 5-10 hào) The Noodles that made me want to move to Chengdu: Name: 纯阳馆鱼香排骨面 (chún yáng guǎn yú xiāng páigǔ miàn) Address: 青羊区吉祥街6号附6号 吉祥结店 (Qīngyáng qū jíxiáng jiē 6 hào fù 6 hào jíxiáng jié diàn) The cheap hole in the wall for dinner: Address: Guanghuacun street right near the small south gate of SWUFE At the end of the day, Kevin spent less than $20 dollars for his food, transportation, and accommodation in Chengdu, China! It was a total blast! CHINESE YURT CAMPING - INCREDIBLE Tiny House Yurt FOOD in NEVER-SEEN China! SILK ROAD Street Food!

08:10
FOOD RANGER MERCH NOW AVAILABLE! http://bit.ly/FOODRANGER Follow me on Insta: http://bit.ly/2c5ojch And subscribe to my channel here: http://bit.ly/2cCy2ub Chinese Yurt Camping in Western China, a RARE look! You won’t believe how beautiful this tiny house yurt was and how delicious the food was. This was near the Pakistan border, a 6-hour drive from Kashgar. We made our way deep to the border of China’s Xinjiang province in search of local cuisine, and found a Kyrgyz style Yurt and meal! As we made our way deeper into the Silk Road, we tried a lot of different street foods. But we didn't have a lot of home cooked meals. And one of the things I love doing is getting out of the restaurant or the street and trying some home cooked food. Luckily, we found a guide who brought us to a beautiful yurt tiny house on the karakul lake, right on the silk road Karakoram highway to Pakistan. I haven't been in a Mongolian Yurt yet, but I imagine it's quite similar to this Kyrgyz style one. As we travel around the world and sample street food around the world, we are beginning with this Silk Road series, there is a lot of new destinations we are going to travel to! This summer we will be going on a Vietnam street food journey, then to Indonesia for Indonesian street food, and then to Sri Lanka for Sri Lankan street food! Chinese Hooters has excellent bar food and we came on Christmas night. We decided to come to hooters on Christmas to enjoy the western food as it is hard to find in China and we wanted somewhere with a lively atmosphere. I also stayed up all night editing this video for you on Christmas so that you could still enjoy it on Christmas day in North America :) Please like: www.facebook.com/foodrangin The food was surprisingly very good. Up to western standards. I ordered a burger and hot and spicy chicken wings. They were so hot and spicy! Western food in China is either really good or really bad. It was really good here! And we came on Christmas night, so the atmosphere was lively, full of games, dancing, and eating! Watch the full video! It's full of fun! There is also a Hooters in Beijing I believe, but this is my first time to one in China in Chengdu. The girls here were distracting me from the food though. On March 8, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said there will be no weakening of China’s support for Africa, pledging greater support for the continent. Shen said that China’s work in Africa benefits local communities, meets regional demands, creates jobs, increases tax revenue for local governments, and upgrades local industries. Investment in Africa involves a wide range of areas, including agriculture, infrastructure projects such as railways and manufacturing, and the service industry, focusing on sectors such as logistics, catering and culture. Rebutting accusations that China is exploiting Africa’s natural resources, Shen said that less than 20 percent of China’s total investment in the continent has been in the mining industry. FOOD RANGER MERCH NOW AVAILABLE! http://bit.ly/FOODRANGER Follow me on Insta: http://bit.ly/2c5ojch And subscribe to my channel here: http://bit.ly/2cCy2ub China bullet train full speed noodle tour! This is my video blog of my experience riding the Chinese high speed rail from Chengdu to Wuhan solely to eat a bowl of noodles. In China, high speed rail/ the China bullet train has lines from all major cities, including Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Xi'an, and most others. I made the trip during the Chinese national holiday "Golden week" to Wuhan because I've had numerous comments on my videos lately recommending me to go to Wuhan to try the reganmian 热干面 "hot dry noodles". So I purchased my train tickets online, and made my way to the Chengdu east railway station anticipating the great noodles that lay ahead! The max speed for the Chinese Bullet Train/Chinese high speed rail is around 300 km/hour, but they have gone faster under test conditions. Once I made it to the Wuhan train station, I asked the taxi driver where to eat a good bowl of hot dry noodles, and we explored together and eventually found one! This is not a spicy ramen noodle challenge video, this is a real noodle travel video, where the noodles are spicy and legit. I hope you enjoy it!
