Ascent Resources: Massive scope for Gas Production in Slovenia
Malcolm Graham-Wood, Oil Analyst & MalcysBlog discusses the latest with Ascent Resources CEO, Colin Hutchinson. What is Ascent Resources? Ascent Resources are a European Focuses AIM listed Oil & Gas exploration, production company. They currently control one project, the Petišovci tight gas project in northern Slovenia. They have been there for 10 years, they have discovered a commercial volume gas. It took a while to get the gas to market; mainly due to the bureaucracy issues in Slovenia.  They had a breakthrough last year, when they acquired a company that has pipeline access rights which runs in to Croatia. They then signed a deal with the largest Croatian gas company, INA, to sell them their gas untreated at the border. Giving them a route to market for the gas, and allowed them to fund raise to continue their projects and continue digging two wells. Which are now tied in to an existing processing facility. Which has been refurbished which can cope with the increased amount of gas. At the start of this month, they were able to start selling the gas to Croatia. Furthermore, this week, they got the news that they will be able to build their own processing plant. This is going to increase their market opportunities. ​They currently have two wells, PG10 & PG11A. Drilled in 2011, they have been completed and ​fully tied in. PG10's flow test in February flowed in 8 to 9 million cubic feet of gas per day. Whilst PG11A flow test showed it could flow around 2 million cubic feet of gas per day. There are a number of other wells in the plan that they can bring in to production soon. These wells were originally drilled in the 70's with less effective technology. Colin believes that going back and drilling them now, will allow for more success; much in the way they re-drilled PG10 & PG11A. They have completed some geological tests which suggests that there is 456 billion cubic foot of gas; which could be 20 years of gas extraction. However they are limited by the production agreement signed with INA which has an upper and lower limit to the amount of gas produced over the next 12 months. The reason for the upper limit was due to cautious estimates of what they could produce over the 12 months. There is scope to increase this upper limit however. Once they are comfortable with the well and processing plant behaviour, then they will increase the output. Malcolm then discusses the timeline for the new wells coming to production with Colin, and the predicted step up in production to around 35 millions cubic feet per day.​ Malcolm also discusses revenues and the future of Ascent resources with Colin. The first one is a project life cycle and the second one is project management process. Most people confuse these 2. And if these are not clear, you can kiss the PMP certification goodbye. It’s absolutely amazing how many content creators in YouTube confuse these two. They are not interchangeable. You cannot afford to confuse a project life cycle with a project management process. What is Big Data?
What is Big Data (2018)? (In 5 mins) Big Data basically refers to, huge volume of data that cannot be, stored and processed using the traditional approach within the given time frame. The next big question that comes to our mind is? How huge this data needs to be? In order to be classified as Big Data? There is a lot of misconception, while referring the term Big Data. We usually use the term big data, to refer to the data, that is, either in gigabytes or terabytes or petabytes or exabytes or anything that is larger than this in size. This does not defines the term Big Data completely. Even a small amount of data can be referred to as Big Data depending on the context it is used. Let me take an example and try to explain it to you. For instance if we try to attach a document that is of 100 megabytes in size to an email we would not be able to do so. As the email system would not support an attachment of this size. Therefore this 100 megabytes of attachment with respect to email can be referred to as Big Data. Let me take another example and try to explain the term Big Data. Let us say we have around 10 terabytes of image files, upon which certain processing needs to be done. For instance we may want to resize and enhance these images within a given time frame. Suppose if we make use of the traditional system to perform this task. We would not be able to accomplish this task within the given time frame. As the computing resources of the traditional system would not be sufficient to accomplish this task on time. Therefore this 10 terabytes of image files can be referred to as Big Data. Now let us try to understand Big Data using some real world examples. I believe you all might be aware of some the popular social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus and YouTube. Each of this site, receives huge volume of data on a daily basis. It has been reported on some of the popular tech blogs that. Facebook alone receives around 100 terabytes of data each day. Whereas Twitter processes around 400 million tweets each day. As far as LinkedIn and Google Plus are concerned each of the site receives tens of terabytes of data on a daily basis. And finally coming to YouTube, it has been reported that, each minute around 48 hours of fresh videos are uploaded to YouTube. You can just imagine, how much volume of data is being stored and processed on these sites. But as the number of users keep growing on these sites, storing and processing this data becomes a challenging task. Since this data holds a lot of valuable information, this data needs to be processed in a short span of time. By using this valuable information, companies can boost their sales and generate more revenue. By making using of the traditional computing system, we would not be able to accomplish this task within the given time frame, as the computing resources of the traditional system would not be sufficient for processing and storing, such a huge volume of data. This is where Hadoop comes into picture, we would be discussing Hadoop in more detail in the later sessions. Therefore we can term this huge volume of data as Big Data. Let me take another real world example related to the airline industry and try to explain the term Big Data. For instance the aircrafts, while they are flying keep transmitting data to the air traffic control located at the airports. The air traffic control uses this data to track and monitor the status and progress of the flight on a real time basis. Since multiple aircrafts would be transmitting this data simultaneously to the air traffic control. A huge volume of data gets accumulated at the air traffic control within a short span of time. Therefore it becomes a challenging task to manage and process this huge volume of data using the traditional approach. Hence we can term this huge volume of data as Big Data. I’m going to explain to you why people use Budget Cost, why you may want to use Budget Cost and how you can compare progress on a project with a project budget, with specific reference to costs. Now I should point out that you can pretty much do the same thing with Budget Work. And the approach with Budget Work is actually very similar but we’re going to concentrate here on Budget Costs. So I’m back here at the house build project. This is version 03. If I go to the Resource Sheet you’ll see that currently the Resource Sheet is empty. And in fact there are no costs or resources assigned at all on this project yet. So one thing that I might do very early on in a project like this is prepare a budget. Now this wouldn’t necessarily relate to any very accurate estimate of cost but I might say, for example, well I think that the labor costs are going to be $40,000 and the material costs are going to be $30,000 and the legal costs are going to be $10,000 and so on. So I might come up with some budget figures. And then during the course of the project I’m going to want to see how the project is progressing against my budget. Now rather than do all of those all I’m going to do is take one element and show you how you might deal with one element and then the other elements would be dealt with in an equivalent way. Now one thing that I must make very clear at this point is that you shouldn’t confuse budget costs with baseline cost. A baseline is a copy, a saved copy of a detailed schedule at a point in time. In fact it can be a detailed or perhaps not very detailed schedule, but it’s a copy of the schedule which will include details of start dates, end date, costs, etcetera, whatever has been added at that point. Budget costs are assigned at the project level. And although we can compare the budget cost with our actual costs in whatever categories we’ve set up it’s not the same as comparing progress, actuals that is, with a baseline. So let’s use as our example a budget cost for services. And by services we mean things like connecting the house to main services and getting an inspection by a local building inspector. So first of all let’s go to the Resource Sheet and we’re going to set up a resource called Service Costs. The type is Cost and I’m also going to create a group. What is tourism strategy? Do you have a tourism strategy? In this interview, we are going to talk with David Mora, tourism consultant, about tourism and he is going to share with us his knowledge, experience, and will also guide you more towards tourism strategy and having it. David Mora has been working in tourism for his entire career and he has even studied tourism in Spain, his hometown, and then he kept studying and even done his PhD also in tourism. "tourism is my passion and it is my work at the same time, here in Spain and also sometimes involves international travels." How did you become so much interested in tourism that it became your career now? "Well, I don't actually recall because its a long time ago already, but I think in the beginning I was more interested in foreign languages. Some of my relatives and friends were travelling and studying abroad and that somehow intrigued me and so when I was choosing between different careers I picked the tourism path." Can you tell us more about your role as a tourism consultant? "At the beginning, I was working as one of those tourism students in one of the hotels in my home town in Bilbao as a front desk agent and after two years I decided to do a masters degree in tourism management which gave me a much broader scope in the tourism industry in which there are many other roles that you could take. So I applied for a grand by the national government by the Spanish tourist board, I got it, and then I was moved to Germany and then Poland to work as a representative for Spain in Poland." "The consultancy role seemed to me very dynamic, very interesting, and so I applied for two different consultancy agencies in Spain and I got one job as a junior consultant, and that's when my consultancy career started back in 1999. Most of my work was for public institutions during those 18 years of work in the field." "The project that I developed was a strategic plan for touristic destinations, even though I have done other things and other stuff, but that's the most usual project that I have performed." Do you think that music in tourism or culture should be thought of or merged as one? "In Spain, we have a good climate and that makes it good to promote Spain as a music destination, especially those festivals that play along the seaside, there in the summer time, so I would say its a mass segment but its a growing one, so we are trying to diversify our interests and our resources, not just focusing on sun and sea but also trying to attract other types of visitors who are more interested in culture, heritage, food." What are your projects at the moment or how you run your consultancy organization? "Currently am a freelance consultant, I have been working for different companies, first when I was living in Barcelona and then about 40 years ago when I moved to Madrid, and now I went solo and even though its sometimes me who got hire, sometimes I got hired by other companies who presented a bit for an international tender and they need someone more or less who fits in my profile. Now, I work on two strategic plans for two municipalities." "I also teach very often in different business schools and universities, everything travel related." For works written independently of the publisher, writers often first submit a query letter or proposal directly to a literary agent or to a publisher. If the publisher accepts unsolicited manuscripts, then the manuscript is placed in the slush pile, which publisher's readers sift through to identify manuscripts of sufficient quality or revenue potential to be referred to acquisitions editors for review. The acquisitions editors send their choices to the editorial staff... Unsolicited submissions have a very low rate of acceptance, with some sources estimating that publishers ultimately choose about three out of every ten thousand unsolicited manuscripts they receive. This shifts the burden of assessing and developing writers out of the publishing company and onto the literary agents.
