✅http://lig.academy - Need a better job? Most LIG members find their ideal employment within as little as 15 days. Welcome to this week's episode where I make project management simple for you. To make it applicable to the majority of the audience, I am teaching Project Management Institute's (PMI) project management framework. ________________________________________________ Textbooks and frameworks are always boring. So, to make project management more interesting for you, I ran a project to demonstrate what steps to take and when. You won't regret spending 50 minutes to learn the basics of a wonderful practice called project management. You can also download all the templates I used in the session here (no need to register); https://thecareermastery.com/career-tips/project-management-simplified/ Although I strongly recommend you watch the entire session without skipping, for those of you who are just looking for snippets of information, you may find below the index of the video; 03:03 What is a project, program, and portfolio and how are they different from operations? 04:08 Project = Project Life Cycle + Project Management Process 04:43 Project Life Cycle 06:52 Process Groups 09:27 LIG, PMP certification or CAPM certification, which one is right for you? It definitely has a sexy tone to it right? Project… I just love the way it sounds. I wonder how cool it must sound in French. Proje… Well, project is a temporary endeavor to create a unique solution. Yeah that’s operations. No Well, the difference between a project and operations is fairly simple. A project ends. So, it’s temporary. You implement your project, you close it, you create a unique product/service/ or whatever outcome you wanted then you are done. Whereas in operations, it’s on-going and repetitive. You may have also heard about the terms program and portfolio. Let me just quickly explain them here. Program is multiple projects put together. Combined. And Portfolio is similarly. Multiple programs put together. So, it’s project, program, portfolio. Now before I go further, and dive deep. You need to understand something crucial. To run any project, you need 2 methodologies. The first one is a project life cycle and the second one is project management process. Most people confuse these 2. And if these are not clear, you can kiss the PMP certification goodbye. It’s absolutely amazing how many content creators in YouTube confuse these two. They are not interchangeable. You cannot afford to confuse a project life cycle with a project management process. Don’t worry I am going to make it very simple for you. Let’s start with Project Life Cycle. Project Life Cycle is unique to a project, to an industry, to your needs. It’s highly customizable. Think of it like this; a human development is a project. So, your life cycle is; 1) Conceiving 2) Birth 3) Childhood 4) Teenage hood. Teenage hood. Is that a word? Teenaging? 5) Adulthood 6) And death Easy stuff right? So, now if it was an IT project. I am not an IT but it would like something like this; High-level design Detailed Design Coding Testing Installation And Turnover This is project life cycle. The term cycle is a bit confusing here. I think. But who knows. This video covers; project management project management institute pmp project management professional certification project life cycle project management PMI managing a project project management fundamentals fundamentals of project management project management for beginners project management course

A project of the National Research Programme "Sustainable water management" (NRP 61). Prof. Dr. Adrienne Grêt-Regamey presents the research work carried out in the scope of the project: Access to water of good quality and in sufficient quantity is essential to human beings. However, land use and climate changes challenge this water availability. Political and administrative decision-makers depend on a scientific basis on which to build, in good time, measures for the safeguarding of water resources. Water is used for drinking, for the irrigation of fields and for the production of energy; we relax by the water and also have to protect ourselves against floods. However, human activity and climate change affect the ecosystems, thus interfering with their functions. When less water is available, many branches of industry are endangered. Additional costs arise when certain branches can no longer function as desired. It is therefore necessary to develop measures which safeguard the availability of good quality water in sufficient quantity. The project takes into account the entire water resource supply chain, from the supply in the catchment area all the way to the use in the valley, based on the example of the Rhône in the Upper Valais. Basic national and international political conditions and their influence on water management will be taken into account, as will the changes associated with the climate. A model will be developed that combines the hydrological, ecological and economic aspects of water resource development and portrays these in various scenarios. The effects of climate change and land use on water resources will be depicted in maps. In this way, it will be demonstrated that certain areas react more sensitively to climate change and socio-economic development than others, and suitable adaptation strategies can be formulated for the local stakeholders. Tools will be developed that will help the decision-makers to develop regional measures, thus ensuring that high quality water is available in sufficient quantities. These measures can for example include exploitation modifications and financial incentive systems. The regional players will above all have to adapt to climate change. When it comes to modifications in land use, they will possibly be able to weaken negative trends. Informations: http://www.nfp61.ch

Granted, the term may apply differently to different organizations. For a smaller company, facing hundreds of gigabytes of data for the first time may trigger a need to explore new tools. Other companies that generate tons of transactional data, like UPS, wouldn't flinch with their existing toolsets until they hit tens or hundreds of terabytes. For freshers who wants to start learning big data here are a few tips: 1. Begin with the basics: If you are looking at building a career in big data, you can start with developing the core aptitudes such as curiosity, agility, statistical fluency, research, scientific rigor and skeptical nature. You have to decide which facet of data investigation (data wrangling, management, exploratory analysis, prediction) are you looking at acquiring. The first step to learning big data is to develop basic level of familiarity with programming languages. 2. Experience in programming languages: Begin with developing basic data literacy and an analytic mindset by building knowledge of programming languages such as Java, C++, Pig Latin and HiveQL. Figure out where you want to apply your data analytics skills to describe, predict, and inform business decisions in the specific areas of marketing, human resources, finance, and operations. 3. Expertise in Hadoop: Developing knowledge about Hadoop Map-Reduce and Java is essential if you’re looking to be a high-performance data software engineer. 4. What are you looking for? If you are looking for a career switch to big data, begin with developing the skill sets required to work with Hadoop. A well-rounded understanding of Hadoop requires experience in large-scale distributed systems and knowledge of programming languages. 5. Data Analytics Skills: If you want to learn the fundamentals and want to get an indepth understanding of every aspect of Big Data, the resource material provided by Apache’s library is very useful. The Hadoop programme offered by Apache is an open-source software for reliable, scalable, distributed computing. Some of the other programmes offered are HBase Hive, Mahout, Pig ZooKeeper. 6. Online Courses: The big data universe is still very young, to get a well rounded expertise in big data it is important to learn and hone skills related to the subject. Decide on the course based on the skill set you're looking to get. Just by dedicating some time and energy, you can tackle learning big data with these free online classes. Applications of Big Data Big data includes problems that involve such large data sets and solutions that require a complex connecting the dots. You can see such things everywhere. 1. Quora and Facebook use Big data tools to understand more about you and provide you with a feed that you in theory should find it interesting. The fact that the feed is not interesting should show how hard the problem is. 2. Credit card companies analyze millions of transactions to find patterns of fraud. 3. There are similar problems in defense, retail, genomics, pharma, healthcare that requires a solution. The companies offering jobs on Big Data are : Qualcomm India Pvt Ltd, Accenture, Dev Solutions So let us summarize as Big Data is a group of problems and technologies related to the availability of extremely large volumes of data that businesses want to connect and understand. The reason why the sector is hot now is that the data and tools have reached a critical mass. This occurred in parallel with years of education effort that has convinced organizations that they must do something with their data treasure. Malcolm Graham-Wood, Oil Analyst & MalcysBlog discusses the latest with Ascent Resources CEO, Colin Hutchinson. What is Ascent Resources? Ascent Resources are a European Focuses AIM listed Oil & Gas exploration, production company. They currently control one project, the Petišovci tight gas project in northern Slovenia. They have been there for 10 years, they have discovered a commercial volume gas. It took a while to get the gas to market; mainly due to the bureaucracy issues in Slovenia. They had a breakthrough last year, when they acquired a company that has pipeline access rights which runs in to Croatia. They then signed a deal with the largest Croatian gas company, INA, to sell them their gas untreated at the border. Giving them a route to market for the gas, and allowed them to fund raise to continue their projects and continue digging two wells. Which are now tied in to an existing processing facility. Which has been refurbished which can cope with the increased amount of gas. At the start of this month, they were able to start selling the gas to Croatia. Furthermore, this week, they got the news that they will be able to build their own processing plant. This is going to increase their market opportunities. They currently have two wells, PG10 & PG11A. Drilled in 2011, they have been completed and fully tied in. PG10's flow test in February flowed in 8 to 9 million cubic feet of gas per day. Whilst PG11A flow test showed it could flow around 2 million cubic feet of gas per day. There are a number of other wells in the plan that they can bring in to production soon. These wells were originally drilled in the 70's with less effective technology. Colin believes that going back and drilling them now, will allow for more success; much in the way they re-drilled PG10 & PG11A. They have completed some geological tests which suggests that there is 456 billion cubic foot of gas; which could be 20 years of gas extraction. However they are limited by the production agreement signed with INA which has an upper and lower limit to the amount of gas produced over the next 12 months. The reason for the upper limit was due to cautious estimates of what they could produce over the 12 months. There is scope to increase this upper limit however. Once they are comfortable with the well and processing plant behaviour, then they will increase the output. Malcolm then discusses the timeline for the new wells coming to production with Colin, and the predicted step up in production to around 35 millions cubic feet per day. Malcolm also discusses revenues and the future of Ascent resources with Colin. Watch the full video to see more. Have you ever wondered why your project fails? Get a brief about "why your project fails" in this video. Most organizations have experienced projects that did not end on time, were over budget, or changed in scope over time. There are many pitfalls that can sink projects. Here we will focus on four basic reasons why projects fail. Because most project teams are comprised of at least three sets of players including executive management, project managers, and team members or resources, we will take a look at each issue from all three vantage points, and then provide suggested solutions. As projects have finite start and end dates, are unique in nature, and involve mixed team players, they are more difficult to systematize and to develop sound methodologies and processes. Lack of visibility, unclear objectives, resource uncertainties communication gaps, infrastructure problems, etc. are other practical pitfalls which can affect managing projects.

What is Big Data (2018)? (In 5 mins) Big Data basically refers to, huge volume of data that cannot be, stored and processed using the traditional approach within the given time frame. The next big question that comes to our mind is? How huge this data needs to be? In order to be classified as Big Data? There is a lot of misconception, while referring the term Big Data. We usually use the term big data, to refer to the data, that is, either in gigabytes or terabytes or petabytes or exabytes or anything that is larger than this in size. This does not defines the term Big Data completely. Even a small amount of data can be referred to as Big Data depending on the context it is used. Let me take an example and try to explain it to you. For instance if we try to attach a document that is of 100 megabytes in size to an email we would not be able to do so. As the email system would not support an attachment of this size. Therefore this 100 megabytes of attachment with respect to email can be referred to as Big Data. Let me take another example and try to explain the term Big Data. Let us say we have around 10 terabytes of image files, upon which certain processing needs to be done. For instance we may want to resize and enhance these images within a given time frame. Suppose if we make use of the traditional system to perform this task. We would not be able to accomplish this task within the given time frame. As the computing resources of the traditional system would not be sufficient to accomplish this task on time. Therefore this 10 terabytes of image files can be referred to as Big Data. Now let us try to understand Big Data using some real world examples. I believe you all might be aware of some the popular social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus and YouTube. Each of this site, receives huge volume of data on a daily basis. It has been reported on some of the popular tech blogs that. Facebook alone receives around 100 terabytes of data each day. Whereas Twitter processes around 400 million tweets each day. As far as LinkedIn and Google Plus are concerned each of the site receives tens of terabytes of data on a daily basis. And finally coming to YouTube, it has been reported that, each minute around 48 hours of fresh videos are uploaded to YouTube. You can just imagine, how much volume of data is being stored and processed on these sites. But as the number of users keep growing on these sites, storing and processing this data becomes a challenging task. Since this data holds a lot of valuable information, this data needs to be processed in a short span of time. By using this valuable information, companies can boost their sales and generate more revenue. By making using of the traditional computing system, we would not be able to accomplish this task within the given time frame, as the computing resources of the traditional system would not be sufficient for processing and storing, such a huge volume of data. This is where Hadoop comes into picture, we would be discussing Hadoop in more detail in the later sessions. Therefore we can term this huge volume of data as Big Data. Let me take another real world example related to the airline industry and try to explain the term Big Data. For instance the aircrafts, while they are flying keep transmitting data to the air traffic control located at the airports. The air traffic control uses this data to track and monitor the status and progress of the flight on a real time basis. Since multiple aircrafts would be transmitting this data simultaneously to the air traffic control. A huge volume of data gets accumulated at the air traffic control within a short span of time. Therefore it becomes a challenging task to manage and process this huge volume of data using the traditional approach. Hence we can term this huge volume of data as Big Data. I hope you all might have understood, "What is Big Data". Hello Everyone!!! Let's check out what are the 5 must-have skills to become a machine learning engineer. First, let's understand what machine learning is. In simple words., Machine learning is all about making the computers to perform intelligent tasks without explicitly coding. This is achieved by training the computer with lots and lots of data. For example: Detecting whether a mail is a spam or not, recognizing handwritten digits, Fraud detection in Transactions... and many such applications... Now let's see what are the top 5 skills to get a machine learning job. 1). At number 1, we have Math Skills: Under math skills, we need to know probability and statistics, linear algebra and calculus. Probability and Statistics: Machine learning is very much closely related to statistics. You need to know the fundamentals of statistics and probability theory, descriptive statistics, Baye's rule and random variables, probability distributions, sampling, hypothesis testing, regression and decision analysis. Linear Algebra: You need to know how to with matrices and some basic operations on matrices such as matrix addition, subtraction, scalar and vector multiplication, inverse, transpose and vector spaces. Calculus: In calculus, you need to know the basics of differential and integral calculus. 2). At number two we have Programming skills: A little bit of coding skills is enough. But it's preferred to have the knowledge of data structures, algorithms and Object Oriented Programming (or OOPs) concepts. Some of the popular programming languages to learn for machine learning is Python, R, Java, and C++. It's your preference to master any one programming language. But its advisable to have a little understanding of other languages and what their advantages and disadvantages are over your preferred one. 3). At number 3 we have Data engineer skills: Ability to work with large amounts of data (or big data), Data preprocessing, the knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, ETL (or Extract Transform and Load) operations, data analysis and visualization skills. 4). Next, we have Knowledge of Machine Learning Algorithms: you should be familiar with popular machine learning algorithms such as linear regression, logistic regression, decision trees, random forest, clustering (like K means, hierarchical), reinforcement learning and neural networks. 5). And Finally, The Knowledge of Machine Learning Frameworks: You Should be Familiar with popular machine learning frameworks such as sci-kit learn, tensorflow, Azure, caffe, theano, spark and torch. http://blog.hr360.com/hr-blog/tips-for-having-difficult-conversations-with-employees-video-blog Video Highlights: 00:12 The ability to have difficult conversations, and to make those conversations both effective and productive, is an essential skill for any good manager. 00:49 Most of us instinctually avoid unpleasant situations and conflict, particularly in the workplace where we spend a large portion of our waking hours. Remember, though, that avoiding a tough conversation won’t make the problem at hand go away; in fact, avoidance often makes the situation worse. 01:26 In cases outside the simple delivery of bad news, you should begin by evaluating the scope of the problem and then investigate the facts. For example, if an employee is routinely taking longer than the proscribed time for lunch, it may be the case that he or she is ill, or caring for a child or parent. Try your best to determine if there are outside or mitigating factors. 01:48 If you can’t resolve the issue, or have difficult news to deliver, you should plan your conversation carefully. 02:10 During the meeting, be specific and factual–for example, “I noticed that you came in after 10 six times in the last month.” Use “I phrases” whenever possible. 02:32 These semantic differences may seem small, but they can absolutely change how the message is received. 02:39 Remember to listen to the employee–either to his or her side of the story, or, in the case of unpleasant corporate news, to his or her feelings. You may gather important information that will help you proceed. 02:51 End the meeting by working together to agree on a resolution. This might include a formal performance improvement plan, offering the employee additional resources and training, or, in the case of a personal issue, providing access to the services of an employee assistance program.

Full lecture: https://www.thevenusproject.com/product/jacque-fresco-scientific-responsibility/ Fresco discusses how there are no separate sciences - there is only one science. What we need is an integrated system using the methods of science in all areas, including social management. Science today is mostly directed by commercial institutions and universities, and used for a particular advantage group. Businesses seek positions of advantage rather than creating optimal conditions for all people and the ecological systems. Fresco further explains that if scientists serve a particular nation then that is slanted towards that nation’s political and economic superiority whereas true science would work toward the wellbeing of all people. Scientists teach science but they do not apply it to government or analyze the banking institutions. It is not scientific if findings are put in books and publications but not applied to society due to vested interests or artificial monetary scarcity. Fresco claims that what is needed is the intelligent management of Earth’s resources to benefit all people. Duration: 28:00 minutes. The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in today's world.
