Nintendo is one of the world's largest video game companies by market capitalization. Founded on 23 September 1889, by Fusajiro Yamauchi, it originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. Abandoning previous ventures in favor of toys in the 1960s, Nintendo then developed into a video game company in the 1970s, ultimately becoming one of the most influential in the industry and Japan's third most-valuable company with a market value of over $85 billion. The company has created and released some of the best-known and top-selling video game franchises, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon.

Would you mind doing a part 2 to this? I'd love to see how things changed due to the giant success of the switch. Not to mention with Pokémon for switch having been announced, I would imagine 2018 will be a giant year for Nintendo.

It's very disrespectful to describe Gunpei Yokoi's death as him getting "REKT." He is up there with Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata as a pioneer of the video game industry, and saying his tragic and premature death was him getting "REKT" is extremely rude and unprofessional. I unsubscribed and will never watch a video of yours again. It's sad because I liked this channel, but you clearly have no sense of reverence when it comes to the death of a man who helped being joy to millions.

while the pc may have been a factor in the slump of consols in '83, it is generally more attributed to the haste and overproduction of titles at the time. What Nintendo did differently was to get its consol and games in the toy section and market respectively

too bad you made this video about half a year before the Nintendo Switch came out

Hah stock market irrational you say, or maybe they just saw that Nintendo on the right track, and bet on the switch witch was released later. We all know how that is working out for those same investors now ;)

Niantic deserves the credit for the Pokemon craze not Nintendo.
referral madness (6 months ago)
Nintendo takes a lot of credit because Pokemon go plays on the pokemon hype that Nintendo created in the 90s if that hadn't happened nobody would play poemon go

your voice sometimes kinda reminds me of the south park episode with "sodosopa", where the not-chinese-chinese guy is voicing his own ~fancy~ commercial. take that as you will, i don't mean it as a crit tho, just a funny aside lol
Pin Clock (1 year ago)
Nintendo owns the Pokemon Company. It's owned by Nintendo, GAME FREAK, and Creatures, inc., the developers of the MOTHER series. Yet, Nintendo also owns Creatures, effectively owning 66% of the Pokemon franchise and the rights to Pokemon as a whole. It was a legendary trick the veteran Yamauchi pulled on the young owners of GAME FREAK, effectively robbing them of the ability to publish Pokemon on any other platform and strictly keep them on Nintendo.
Mr. Nobody (1 year ago)
Nintendo betrayed Sony during the process of co-developing the Playstation, which is rather unacceptable in Japanese commercial culture, that's why Sony determined to beat Nintendo at its own game and they succeeded.

oh man í remember the virtual boy! that was a good start for virtual reality headsets. however the game play was too weird by most people and the games for the system was too expensive for most folks to bother buying such type of video games until recently.

I found the rhythm of this video to be really off. It started out great with the history of the pre-video game era but then it just becomes a bunch of dot points of major release milestones.

Jimmy Simmons (1 year ago)
Nintendo proved they were still stuck in the 90s with the poke go plus, unreachable, one click interaction, incapable of prioritizing pokestops when you are out of balls and, incapable of throwing anything but normal pokeballs. Literally for between 8 and 15 dollars more you can get the "go tcha" which is automatic requires no interaction and is just generally a better concept and product.
Tony Lancer (1 year ago)
This was a great video, I think you missed out a few things. Nintendo saved the video gaming industry in 1983. I think most people know the story but the summary is that they checked and made sure that games were of good quality with the "Nintendo Seal of Approval". And that helped the quality of games to get back to the highest level (no E.T. nonsense, yay!).
referral madness (6 months ago)
Actually Nintendo didn't save the video game industry , they saved the North American video game industry
TheBaldr (1 year ago)
Actually it was their marketing campaign, it not a game console, but a toy line. They went great lengths to market it as a toy right at the peak of the 80s toy craze.

Thanks for your video, it was amazing; I hadn´t had any idea about this biggest organization: Nintendo. I´d like if you explain about DC or Warner, I´ll love it; both could be awesome. This kind of video help me to practice english and learn about enterprises.
