What’s the difference between the body of a candle that shows the open and close position during a time frame but the shadows show the high and lows within an interval. So I guess my question is what’s the time frame and what’s the interval :)
Trading 212 (9 months ago)
There's no difference. They represent prices that happened within a single period of time.
Winda Rahmawati (9 months ago)
I didnt get it, why on minute 5.06 the shooting star is red ?!!!!! For such position, the green (opening to closing ), and followed above by red (closing - opening) . ? Whatttt
Winda Rahmawati (9 months ago)
good, good education, now I got it, thank you! I think you have deleted previous comment which didnt say like that!
Trading 212 (9 months ago)
Hi Winda, the candle can still be red if it opened with a gap from the previous candle. Gap candles happen frequently around important news announcements or when financial results of companies are announced. You can look at the daily chart of IBM in the platform as an example.
Abhijeet Gunjal (9 months ago)
Thanks! Great tutorial!!
shinymetalobjects (10 months ago)
If each candle represents a segment of time, and the next successive candle is the next immediate time segment, how come the ending price of an initial candle doesn't line with the starting price of the next candle? ie, If you have a green candle going up, followed by a red candle down, wouldn't the top of the first green candle line up with the top the next red candle? or , say if there were 2 green candles up in a row, wouldn't the top of the first green candle line up with the bottom of the 2nd green candle? The fact that candles don't line up these ways seems to indicate there is a gap of time between them where the price changed. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Trading 212 (9 months ago)
The market price may change in the time interval a candle ends and the next one begins. That is why there might be a difference between the closing price of a candle and the opening price of the next one.
Donnie Le (10 months ago)
what does the open and close price mean ?
Trading 212 (10 months ago)
Hi Donnie, opening price refers to the price at which a new candle begins. Closing price is that one at which the candle ends.

I'm learning how to read the candlesticks and is there a guide to follow when choosing a time interval and expiration time? For example, I have time interval 5 min so the expiration should be 5 min as well? Or 1 min interval and 3 min expiration?
