We all know that the easter island heads have bodies – that’s not a mystery at all. But how did the easter island population build hundreds of statues? Scientists have recently solved this mystery and discovered where these people disappeared to and why.
For many decades, people's minds have been occupied with the mystery of Easter Island. A remote piece of volcanic soil, far away in the Pacific Ocean... But our planet hosts thousands of such lonely islands, what is so particular about this one?
The mystery is concealed not in the island itself but giant stone statues covering it. Who created the world-famous huge stone heads? Did they serve any specific purpose? Where did their creators arrive from and where did they disappear?
Well, it seems the answer is finally just around the corner!

- Where is Easter Island located?
Rapa Nui (which is the name given to Easter Island by its first inhabitants) is the territory of Chile and is situated in the southern Pacific Ocean. And it is so, so far that you can easily consider it one of the most distant places on the world's map. It lies 1,200 miles away from Pitcairn, which is its closest neighbor.
- What's the main secret of the statues?
Most statues (834 out of 887) were carved from the material called tuff which is, in fact, compressed volcanic ash. Curiously, all the statues except one group face inland. It means their backs are turned to the ocean. Perhaps the reason for that was the belief that the statues were the protectors of the villagers that's why they overlooked the settlement. The only statues not fitting into this pattern can be found at Ahu Akivi, a sacred place for the people of Rapa Nui.
- Theories about how the statues had been moved.
One of the most popular ones among the lovers of mysteries was the belief that the statues had been created and moved by aliens. But even if you like this theory, we are sorry to debunk it. The stone the statues were built from originates from the island itself. The birthplace of most of the material was an extinct volcano situated in the north-east of Easter Island and not another planet.
- A new study about the island.
A new study has been conducted recently to specify the maximum number of the inhabitants in the heyday of the island's civilization.
The results arrived, and they were quite unexpected. It turned out that as many as 17 and a half thousand people could comfortably live on the island. At least 19 percent of the land could be covered with the fields of sweet potatoes that used to be the main source of food for the population. What is more, the islanders consumed quite a lot of seafood and fish.
- Why did people on Easter Island disappear?
At first, it was believed that the reason for such a decrease of the population was an ecocide. The natives cut out large forests and palm trees making spare room for moving the statues around as well as agriculture. They thought the trees were going to grow back fast enough. It was a misleading concept. The deterioration of the environment resulted in hunger. And this, in turn, led to wars and cannibalism.
Nowadays, however, such a theory has been proven wrong. First of all, Rapa Nui inhabitants seemed to be very talented agricultural engineers. They deliberately fertilized the fields with the volcanic rock. In fact, another research has shown that people had been living on the island for many centuries. And the population only started to decrease when Europeans began visiting.

had to be evil white people. could not have been a hurricane or the fact that these people have a long history of sailing from one island to the next. There are numerous uninhabited islands which Polynesian peoples visited and even inhabited temporarily,.
i think this statue qas the protector of the island and humans was born and the statue tell to the humans to leave because they know what would happen if they live there so they did a agreement to live peace and keep this a secret then the volacano was erupting and the statue moved by them selves and made a sheild like a magic one they go round the volcano making magic sheild to cover the volcano and thats why the volcano did not exist because the volcano melt him/her self in he/she's own lava and after the eruption ended the volcano was angry because of human causing the eruption but the statue protected the humans and now the statue have the reponsibility of the life of the human living there then they set out and scatterd to tha side of the island so that they can make a shield for the humans of that island but foreigns came and they never made the shield because they will be seen
this this island is made up of
It is my opinion, these are not statues but the giants mentioned in the Bible that roamed the earth pre-flood. Once the earth was flooded, the Giants became stuck in the mud. I think they turned their backs to face away from the ocean waves as they drowned and died where they stood. The kneeling giant, was praying to God for forgiveness.
Wait guys i just realized something base on the map that you give the whole island is surrounded right!?.. So what if the purpose of the stuff if a defenses for those pirates and colonialist and that time the land is low ... So if a ship will see the shadows of those .. They will say that there a giants in there so they will not go there.. Right.. And for the peoples of the island who create them what if theirs at Disaster that take them away ... Pls... Comment below if any one read this.... Like pls.. To know if thers one
Just cause the material came from the island in no way confirms that aliens didn't build or move the statues LOL
And I highly doubt "walking with magic" meant with ropes tied to them.. otherwise they would've said they were tied up & pulled.. those words were in their vocabulary. Sounds more like they were moved by some type of unseen force only higher intelligent beings could have developed.
There is a great contradiction in this narrative. It is clearly stated that when he Europeans discovered the island in 1722, the population was only 1500-3000. But if it had been previously up to maybe 17.500 why it had later been reduced to only a fraction? The usual European evils like diseases and exploitation occurred later when the remaining inhabitants were almost wiped out. Ecocide is considered not politically correct because, as a matter of principle for many historians now, native people are never to be considered responsible of anything so serious as the destruction of an ecosystem. But the forests had disappeared before the arrival of the Europeans. This seems the obvious result of the need for more and more agriculture to support an increasing population. But then it dwindled to only 1500-3000! So if it was not ecocide, please provide another sensible theory. Maybe more than one, or a combination of factors. Perhaps we will never know what really happened. But I beg you, keep out the aliens!
There are no mystery behind these statues. There were 7 people (7 east facing statues) trapped in this Island with a monkey (Tukuturi). They made these huge statues maybe by expecting others to notice it and help them. But after making these statues they developed an interest and made so many. The statues were spread across the Island by huge waves....lol. Just look how simple it is!!! hahaha
Some of the ideas represented here are ridiculous. Unless there was an active volcano spurting out of Ash and lava continuously there is no way a few centuries could be enough time to completely cover the body of those statues. To assume the natives would go to all that trouble to build and carve their statues and then to cover them up to the neck is also insane. The idea that the statues were covered in volcanic ash is also insane because an active volcano would have destroyed most of them not simply buried them. The statues are buried up to their neck because they are hundreds of thousands of years old. Come on people get a grip on reality and face up
Deuteronomy 27 vers 15
'Cursed is the man who makes an idol or a molten image, an abomination to the Lord , the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.' And all the people shall answer and say, 'Amen.'
